Course desCriptionThe course is intended for all medical and rehabilitation professionals involved in the
management of cerebral palsy (CP). The course provides an overview of multi-disciplinary
management of CP and focuses on the role of orthotics.
The biomechanics of normal gait, the pathological gaits of CP and orthotic management will be
extensively reviewed. The course would be delivered through lectures, workshops, video and
live patient demonstrations.

Course Objectives: After the completion of this course the participants should be able to
• Learn to assess the biomechanical abnormalities in CP.
• Understand the normal gait cycle and common gait abnormalities in CP.
• Get an overview of the advances in multidisciplinary management of CP.
• Understand the biomechanical principles and rationale of orthotic management in CP.
• Understand how these principles and considerations may be applied to an orthosis for a specific
functional impairment in CP.
• Describe the categories of components and materials from which orthoses are constructed and the
principal requirements for each category.
• Understand the indications for the use of commonly prescribed orthoses in CP.
• Understand the limitations and contraindications for the use of these orthoses.
