LEARNING OBJECTIVES Explain the principles of pre-hospital emergency care

Perform a rapid, appropriate and focused clinical

survey of patients presenting at the ED Appropriately triage patients presenting at the ED

Formulate logical initial differential diagnoses for EDpatients with common presenting complaints

Efficiently assist in performing resuscitative measuresto emergent and urgent patients

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Obtain focused targeted history of the patient’s

complaint

Perform adequate and appropriate physicalexamination

Perform timely interventions to address the patient’simmediate problems

Refer all cases to emergency room consultants orER Residents on-duty 

Suggest adequate and cost-effective management

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Assist and/or perform emergency room procedures

(i.e. NGT insertion, foley catheter insertion, IV insertion, intubation)

Retrieve laboratory/radiologic results Perform CPR and assist during resuscitation

Course Activities (2 weeks) Duties – every 3 days

DUTY – 7:30AM-4PM; 4PM-7:30AM

 Attendance; endorsement rounds

 Assist in management of ER patients

POST-DUTY 

PRE-DUTY-7:30AM-5PM

Triage – obtain CC:/vital signs/do primary survey/refer EMS- join activities of EMS resident rotator

 ACU- monitoring of critically ill patients

CASE PRESENTATION Group report

Pick an interesting case managed by any member of thegroup during their tour of duty (i.e. medical, surgical,trauma, toxicological)
