- Lady Bird Johnson
WHY ENVIRONMENT?
THE CHALLENGES ARE GREAT
Rapid economic growth and industrializa:on, popula:on growth and economic development are posing serious threats to the environment and natural resources:
Ø Degrada:on of land resources Ø Inefficient use of fresh water Ø Significant loss of biodiversity Ø Increasing environmental pollu:on, traffic and energy use Ø Improper waste management
[UN Fact Sheet on Ci7es and Climate Change (2011)]
12% of the Ho Chi Minh City popula:on is living in areas forecast to be flooded by a one meter sea level rise.
[Vietnam Ins7tute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment, 2010]
The main areas of popula:on growth, and areas where the poor live, are most threatened.
[Vietnam Ins7tute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment, 2010] Given the complexity of these problems, a mul;-‐stakeholder approach is necessary to provide long-‐term solu:ons to these environmental challenges.

Narrow the Gap for Education
“When we made the video clip, Quy Duc had to film it at 2am but he never complained. He came with us to each household and persuaded them to participate. He never gave up, even when there were a lot of difficulties in getting permission. I would never forget the sight of him lying on the waste container, or lowering his camera into the trash bin to capture the footage. We learned so much on our trip with him, from his action to his experience sharing. I hope that LIN will continue to be the bridge to connect [nonprofits] to such wonderful people.”
