Sixth Sunday of Easter May 5, 2013

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. Peace. What does it mean? Maybe it means no wars, no gun-fire, and no bombs. Maybe it means a quiet garden with a fountain, or sitting on the beach and listening to the ocean. Maybe it means no one making demands. These are all good things, and they are all the kind of peace the world gives. But like everything the world has to offer, they are not quite enough. For one thing, they all have a transitory quality. No war now, but it might come back. Will I just plain get bored with sitting by the ocean? Perhaps someone should create a conflict just to liven things up!

Jesus offers us the gift of Peace on a different level—HIS Peace. His Peace is a bit like the peace we know in the world—it includes a profound sense of rest and beauty: but it is far better. We can never get bored with it. Jesus’ Peace stayed with him wherever he went—in the crowds and alone. The Peace of Jesus was not controlled by external changes in his environment.

What was Jesus’ secret? Jesus’ Peace sprang from his pro-found relationship with the Father. Jesus indwelt in God the Father, and the Father indwelt in Him. That reality meant that Jesus was always fully centered on God: he could not lose his wholeness, his balance, or his sense of God’s love. He knew to the depths of his soul that whatever happens, God the Fa-ther is continuously working, sustaining, nurturing, guiding, and (yes) REDEEMING all things. God draws Good out of every-thing, even out of tragedy, and even out of evil.

Jesus is offering us this peace—H IS Peace. Not the world’s peace, not our own peace, but HIS Peace. That means He is offering us the same relationship with God the Father that He has. He says that He and the Father will dwell with us. This is a breathtaking offer.

And this gift of Peace is FREE. We can never earn it; it is freely given by God. But it is not CHEAP. It still costs every-thing. To receive the gift of Peace we must follow Jesus’ com-mands, and we must abandon ourselves to God. We must know that everything we have in this temporary life is on loan from God, not ours for keeps. Most especially we must aban-don any streak of the Pharisee in ourselves, rejoicing in the fact that we are completely dependent on God for every good and every grace. Real Peace is on offer. Will we choose to receive it?Reflection by Dr. Sarah

Sexto Domingo de Pascua 5 de mayo, 2013

Paz les dejo; mi paz les doy.

Paz. ¿Que quiere decir? Tal vez significa no guerras, no dis-paros, no bombas. Tal vez significa no hacer demandas.

SIXTH SUNDAY OF ASTR May 05, 2013

Do đó, người Kitô hữu tách rời khối Do Thái giáo.
