PARISH MISSION STATEMENT:
Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Redemptorist) Church is a Roman Catholic community where through liturgy, prayer, Sacramental Ministry, and Christian Education, we are formed into Disciples of the Lord, reaching out to love and welcome one another, especially the poor and most abandoned among us. As disciples, we seek to follow Jesus’ instructions to “preach” the Gospel through the way we live our lives.

Dear Parishioners and Friends,
If you read this Saturday evening, you are here and present, enjoying the Festival Mass and festival activities. Welcome! To our parish and school alumni, welcome home! If you are reading this Sunday morning, know that it was a wonderful occasion of fellowship and fun! And stop by after Mass this Sunday morning in the Garden Room for coffee and donuts to wish Father Quy farewell and Godspeed as he leaves this week for his new assignment at Holy Ghost Parish in Houston, Texas.

I want to give a “heads-up” to our weekday Mass and Novena goers. Our parking lots are scheduled for repair, resurfacing and striping this week. Please be aware that your parking options may vary from day to day this week. All work should be completed by next weekend’s activities.

I know you are familiar with the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary known as Our Mother of Perpetual Help. We have two very old icons in the parish’s possession. One enthroned in the shrine altar in our Church and one that hangs above the altar in our Redemptorist
rectory chapel. Both date back to the late 1870’s and are two of the earliest Perpetual Help icons to arrive in America from Rome. There are many people in the world who still don’t know our Blessed Mother in that miraculous image and title.
During the past year, since the magnificent celebration in both Rome and for us in St. Louis, we Redemptorists have been renewing our efforts to “make her known.” We know that many people might have this image in their home, or wear the commemorative pin we had minted last year, but can’t travel to see the original icon enshrined in Rome.
Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2 June 11, 2017
So we are bringing the travelling missionary icon, which has been touched to the original in Rome, to our parishes throughout the country. The travelling missionary icon was first displayed a year ago in St. Louis during our Jubilee Mass. It has been visiting our parishes ever since. It arrives in our parish on June 19th along with a historical exhibit that will be displayed between the 19th and the 30th of June in the Garden Room and in Church. Because she is the patroness of our parish, this is her final stop and we are privileged to have her on her our patronal feastday, June 27th.
You will now be able to come and contemplate before it, pray before it, and submit your prayer requests on a special petition form available at the icon. There will also be a special 3 day service twice a day called the “Gazing Prayer” led by expert Perpetual Help iconologist Brother Dan Korn, C.Ss.R. These special prayer services, one hour in length, will be held June 20, 21, and 22 after the 11:00 am Mass and again in the evening at 7:00 pm. The first day, because it is “Novena Day” as it has been for decades at Redemptorist, will begin with a special Novena devotion and procession to the Garden Room to enthrone the icon.
Brother Korn, who travels the country giving retreats on the icon’s meaning, said, “Icons are said to be the Scriptures in image form. There are five main elements in this icon: our Blessed Mother’s faith, her right hand pointing to the Infant, the Infant himself, the angels, then the gold background. From them you can read all the implications of the Gospels.”
Besides OLPH Redemptorist, the icon will also visit Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Friday, June 23rd before and after the noon Mass.
Come share in the richness of this icon, our patroness, and her powerful intercession on our behalf during this visitation.
All are welcome here today and every day.
Fr. Gary
A Gift That Will Live Through the Centuries
Have you ever thought about enrolling yourself or someone you love in the Redemptorist Foundation? It is a wonderful way to remember or honor a family member or loved one, through the beautiful bronze plaque next to the Altar of Our Mother of Perpetual Help.
Your contribution will help to maintain Redemptorist Church, educate young men for the Redemptorist Priesthood or Brotherhood and have Masses said regularly for the members of the Foundation. For more information about the Redemptorist Foundation please call the Rectory at (816) 561-3771.

Welcome, Alumni and Friends!
It’s our annual Festival and Homecoming this Saturday, June 10th—and we welcome back all parish and Redemptorist High School alumni —especially the members of the Redemptorist High School Class of 1967, who are celebrating their 50th this year!
We thank all the many folks who have donated so many needed items to make this day a success—look to future bulletin inserts for a list of the many generous folks who make this special event possible! Thanks also to all who are donating their time and talents this weekend to make sure the event goes smoothly.
And, of course, tremendous thanks to our Festival Chairman Dan Quintero, whose strong leadership and joyful diligence make him such a great Festival chair! THANK YOU, DANIEL!
