At Jesus’ command to Faustina, we celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy on the octave (8 th day, 2 nd Sunday) of Easter. The message of Divine Mercy is that God is love, poured out for us through the passion, death and resurrection of His Son. God wants us to give ourselves to Him. God wants us to trust in Him and repent before He comes in final judgement. When we trust in Him we become instruments of His mercy, able to tell and show others His love and mercy. Mercy gives peace. In a troubled world, (re)turning to God and imploring His mercy is the answer. So, how to implore God’s mercy? Jesus identified 3PM, the hour of His crucifixion, as the hour to en- ter into His mortal sorrow. “I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion,” revealed Jesus to Faustina. She wrote this prayer: ”You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelope the whole world and empty yourself out upon us.” (Diary 1319-20) (Perhaps that is why Fr. Jorge has been offering the Holy Rosary daily at 3PM. Mary’s intercession always leads us back to Jesus.) Another prayer He gave her was “The Chaplet of Divine Mercy,” which can be prayed using a Rosary. Our alignment with Jesus allows us share His mercy. Practice the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. By our words, prayers and actions others will want to ask Christ into their lives! Sr. Faustina’s a diary, records her conversations with Jesus and Mother Mary, and of her ability to bilocate and read others’ souls. It has been continuously translated into many languages and always available, even under Communism! She became known at the Prophetess of Mercy. In 2000, then Pope John Paul, II canonized Sr. Faustina, making her the first saint of this millennia. “O blood and water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You.”

These are the words Jesus gave Sr. Maria Faustina Kowalska as He appeared to her on 2/22/1931. At Jesus’ command to Faustina, we celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy on the octave (8th day, 2nd Sunday) of Easter. All of the staff are still available by email or phone, however. We pray for you and ask that you continue to pray that this pandemic and all its associated problems quickly come to an end. A statement has been issued by the Vatican reminding us of our responsibilities, inter-connectivity and our call to solidarity. R Give Thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting. (or Alleluia)

The Lord be with you. A reading from the holy Gospel according to John. Glory to you, O Lord. On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Je-sus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you for-give are forgiven then, and whose sins you retain are retained.” Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said. “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not see and have believed.” Now, Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may come to believe that Jesus in the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.

Recovery from addictions is really hard. Stress-ors, like change, holidays, the pandemic, the econ-omy, can cause these vulnerable individuals to back slide. If you know someone who is in recov-ery, or want to be better informed yourself on be-half of someone you know, here are some local re-sources, courtesy of Friends of Recovery- NY: ROCovery Fitness; Recovery Coach University; EPIC Zone Youth Clubhouse; The SPOT Youth Clubhouse. Recovery doesn’t just affect the ad-dict; it affects the whole family. Be Jesus hands and share hope, joy & gratitude in asking Jesus to be in control.

Faith Formation

“Social Justice is the Gospel in action. By virtue of our baptism, we are called to activism -- an activ-ism that is motivated by … love. Social justice be-gins with a spiritual conversion, God’s Law of Love in our hearts. The key to social justice is to keep in mind the common good. In all of our ac-tions and relationships we are to ask ourselves If we are acting for the common good and respecting the human dignity of others.” Joe Paprocki from A Well-Built Faith.

With that in mind, I wanted to let you know what Catholic Charities (think love) USA is advocating for (on our behalf) before Congress, which cover support to communities, nonprofits, and vulnera-ble populations. Some of the requests include: • asking Congress for to give the Small Business Administration a dedicated $60 billion in loans for nonprofits; • removing a 500-employee cap on access to the loan program; • increasing the charitable deduction to provide additional incentives for people to donate to chari-ties; • allowing nonprofit workers who continue to serve vulnerable clients to have access to hazard pay; • increasing SNAP benefits by 15 percent; • increased funding for the Emergency Solutions Grant for people experiencing homelessness; • waiving barriers to programs for immigrants to have access to life sustaining food and healthcare. CCUSA joined 135 other nonprofits calling on Congress to ensure that charitable nonprofits are supported in their service during these turbulent times.

Don’t forget your Catholic Relief Services’ Rice Bowl Reading and listening to the stories of people from around the world help us to remember that we are all one family in Christ even though we are physically apart. Collection of the Rice Bowl offerings is ongoing. Con-tact the parish office and arrange to leave your rice bowl on the porch. Thank you to all who have done this so far.
