Holy Name Society OLV’s Holy Name Society generally meets on the second Sunday each month. The men attend 9:30 Mass as a group, followed by recita-tion of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, then meeting and refreshments. At our meetings we discuss topics of interest to men who want to enhance their Catholic faith. Last month's discussion topic was "Memorial of the Holy Name of Jesus." Protect Viable Babies Postcard Campaign Many people don’t realize that the second and third trimester abortions are legal in New Jersey and routinely being carried out. The NJ Conference of Catholic Bishops has approved a postcard campaign designed to ask our NJ State Senators and Assembly Members to support legislation that would ban abortions after 20 weeks (5 months). The United States is one of only 7 countries in the world including China, North Korea, and Vietnam that allow elective abortion past 20 weeks. This month OLV will be holding a postcard campaign. More info’ will be in upcoming bulletins. If you’d like to help with this campaign, please contact the rectory.

CCD Corner Congratulations to our Second Graders who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation this Saturday for the first time! May they see God’s love expressed in this beautiful sacrament and frequently seek his mercy and forgiveness. Next Sunday (February 10th) our CCD Program and Parish will celebrate Grandparents Day. At the 10:45 Mass we will publicly thank and bless these wonderful people who have a special place in our lives. After the Mass, accompanied by their grandchildren they will go to the school hall to be recognized for their love and service to their families. Please contact the CCD Office for more information. Today our Confirmation Candidates will be meet-ing at 10:50 in the school hall.

Fr. Wojciech’s Corner

On Saturday, February 2, 21 of our students celebrated their first reconciliation. What timing…on the feast day of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple, they wanted to make sure their souls will be worthy temples for God. Congratulations! I hope that this experience of the forgiving embrace of God will encourage children to look for-ward to coming back when they stray. It should be a joy to go to con-fession, knowing that finally I will get rid of my sins and be forgiven.

“My sickness taught me a valuable lesson of an enormous power of prayer. I have no doubt it was a prayer of many people through which God decided to still leave me here on earth. May God reward you all”. These were the words my mom wanted me to convey to all of you. The doctor said to her, after one more month you can slowly return to regular life. A miracle.

This weekend we celebrate another miracle of two lives dedicated to the Lord. As we celebrate the day of consecrated life (February 2) we give thanks to the Lord for Sr. Mary, 57 years a Sister of Charity and for Sr. Elizabeth, 69 years this October a Sister of Charity—next year is a big year! May the Lord who is “their portion” bring them to the “fullness of joy in His presence”.

This weekend marks the kick off of the Annual Appeal. Please familiarize yourself with the details of this campaign and how you can participate. I can assure you, after several meetings that I have attended that the offices that handle that appeal will make proper use of the donations given. See the chart on page 4 of this bulletin. As in the previous years, the more we collect, the more comes back to us. Our parish goal this year is $42,525.

Thanks to all who attended last Saturday’s Beefsteak fundraiser, sponsored by OLV Knights of Columbus. It was a great time. C.

Next week we will celebrate a very special day for our grandpar-ents. Please read the CCD Corner for more info. And finally, L III SUPER BOWL FINAL let the better team win but…… Can’t say it……. You know…..Shhhhhhhh…..

- 4 - FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Blessing of the Throats It's a lovely tradition with St. Blaise, who healed a boy with a fish bone stuck in his throat. St. Blaise is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers (which also included saints such as St. Christopher, St. Erasmus, St. Denis of Paris, St. Barbara, St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Giles.) With today being the Feast of St. Blaise, it's time to get your throat blessed! For centuries, it has been a tradition for Catholics to have their throats blessed on the Feast of St. Blaise, the patron saint against throat ailments. The priest takes two unlit candles and crosses them. He places one on one side of the parishioner's neck and one on the other. And, the priest says this prayer:

By the intercession of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every malady of the throat, and from every possible mishap; in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. R. Amen. Source: 1962 Rituale Romanum

What a laudable exchange! What a great and laudable exchange: to leave the things of time for those of eternity, to choose the things of heaven for the goods of earth, to receive the hundred-fold in place of one, and to possess a blessed and eternal life. Because of this I have resolved, as best I can, to beg your excellency and your holiness by my humble prayers in the mercy of Christ, to be strengthened in His holy service, and to progress from good to better, from virtue to virtue (Ps 83:8), so that He Whom you serve with the total desire of your soul may bestow on you the reward for which you long. I also beg you in the Lord, as much as I can, to include in your holy prayers me, your servant, though unworthy, and the other sisters with me in the monastery, who are all devoted to you so that by their help we may merit the mercy of Jesus Christ and together with you may merit to enjoy the everlasting vision. - - Saint Clare (1193-1252) Franciscan nun 1st Letter to Agnes of Prague, 30-34

C. S. Lewis preached "Learning in War-Time" to Oxford students as World War II was beginning for England. In calling them to focus on their calling rather than their circumstances, he noted: "Happy work is best done by the man who takes his long-term plans somewhat lightly and works from moment to moment 'as to the Lord.' It is only our daily bread that we are encouraged to ask for. The present is the only time in which any duty can be done or any grace received."

- 5 - February is dedicated to the Passion.

Did You Know? Consecration, in general, is an act by which a thing is separated from a common and profane to a sacred use, or by which a person or thing is dedicated to the service and worship of God by prayers, rites, and ceremonies. The custom of consecrating persons to the Divine service and things to serve in the worship of God may be traced to the remotest times.

We are all consecrated to the Lord by our Baptism.

“ Follow me” Each vocation is a personal and unique event but also a reality that is communal and ecclesial. No one is called to go forward on their own. Every vocation is raised up by the Lord as a gift for the whole christian community, which is to be enabled to draw profit from it ... It is especially to you, young people, that I should like to turn: Christ needs you if He is to accomplish His plan of salvation! Christ needs your youth and generous enthusiasm if the Gospel is to be proclaimed! Answer this call with the gift of your life to God and your brothers and sisters. Put your trust in Christ. He will not disappoint your desires and plans, but will fill them with mean-ing and joy. He has said: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (Jn 14:6). Open your hearts trustfully to Christ! Allow His presence to be confirmed within you through daily, reverent attention to Holy Scripture, which constitutes the book of life and of those vocations that have been fulfilled. —Saint John-Paul II, Pope from 1978 to 2005, Message for the 34th World Day of prayer for vocations, 1997; § 4,6 (trans. Osservatore Romano)
