REMEMBER THE MILITARY IN YOUR PRAYERS

After Mass Fellowship

Join your fellow parishioners for coffee, fellowship and sharing after the 7:30am, 9am and 11am Mass every Sunday in the Parish Hall. We are asking our fellow parishioners to donate coffee, creamer, sugar and goodies (Example ~ cookies ~ Hostess items ~ prepackaged items) to help support this endeavor. CCD parents will receive participation hours for donations. Call the office for more information.

THIRSTING FOR LIFE-GIVING WATERS Especially during the Lenten, Holy Week, and Easter seasons, the prayer texts of the Eastern Church revel in paradoxical images of Christ: the eternal life who is put to death, the host of the supper who is also its meal, the thirsty crucified one with living water streaming from his side. These images flow from the evangelists' portrayals of Jesus and from his very ministry, during which he often upset or reversed people's expectations about him or the ways of God. This "reversal" is at play in today's Gospel, as Jesus speaks to an enemy foreigner who is also a woman beneath his status. In addition he, the thirsting one, shows the woman to be the one truly thirsting. He--whose parched lips will say "I thirst" before he dies--is the source of life and life-giving water. Lent calls upon us to dwell on how each of us is thirsting for Christ, and it leads us, ultimately, back to the life-giving waters of our baptism into his Body.

SCRUTINIES Today March 19th and 26th and April 2nd, we will be celebrating the Scrutinies at the 9:00 a.m. Mass. At each scrutiny, the elect of Our Lady Queen of Heaven, which have been preparing to become Catholics, and to receive the sacraments of initiation; and whom were presented and elected by Archbishop Thomas G. Wenski on March 5th; are presented to the parish community. The community prays for

them, so that they may defeat sin and Satan , successfully endure temptation, and be strengthened in Christ .

Why all this fuss? Why not do all this quietly and privately? Because we are the People of God welcoming new people to our midst. When a person is baptized or received into the Catholic Church, they are re-ceived by Christ into his body, the community of faith. We have great cause to rejoice that men and women wish to be part of us, and we celebrate that fact.

It is also a good time to remind ourselves that we have been given the faith by the grace of the Lord act-ing through the people who brought us to faith. Every time someone joins the Church, it should prompt us to consider whether we are providing encouragement and good example to them. Further, we should pause to remember, and to thank God for the good people who taught us the faith, whether they are par-ents, grandparents, teachers, friends or neighbors. God has worked through them mightily. May he also mightily work through us to share our faith with others!
