Today we celebrate the Fifth Sunday of Easter. Here are three main things that we can learn from this Sunday’s read-ings: First, we are chosen people. St Peter in today’s second reding reminds us about our identity as Christians, that we are chosen people, we are the 'living stones,' with Christ as cornerstone, to form a 'spiritual building.' Quoting the Exodus 19:6; St. Peter, says: “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own ...” (1 Peter 2:4-9) Second, let us always put our faith and trust in God. Jesus says in today’s gospel; “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; Have faith also in me. …I am the way, the truth, and the Life, no one comes to the father except through me”.” (John 14:1-12). Jesus reminds us to replace our fear, our worries, our troubles, with faith and trust in Him. Jesus even asks us not to worry about our future because God holds the future. God is in control. Third, let us imitate Jesus. As Christians we are called to imitate Jesus. For indeed, Jesus’ mission is our mission. Jesus is the Way and as Christians we all are called to lead and guide those who are lost and confused in this journey called life. We are called to be “living stones and bridges” to connect heaven and earth. Jesus is the truth, and we are called to know the truth lead others to Him because the truth will set us free. Jesus is the life, and as Christians we are also called to bring life to others. As we celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend, we are grateful to our mothers, because in a special way, our mothers have that special gift; they “gave” us life. As Christians, we all are called to “give life” to others like Jesus by helping the poor, those who are sick and dying, and give hope to those who are hopeless and want give up on their life; and most of all, let us help the lost souls to come back to their faith, to come back to Jesus; because only in Him we will have internal life. Again, as we celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend, let us be grateful to own our mothers and anyone who becomes spiritual mothers to us. Let us wish them: Our Lady Star of the Sea Pray for us

A Vocation View:
Pastor Letter to Parishioners: Dear parishioners of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Some of you may ask, “when are we coming back to Our church services?” Here are few main points taken from Archbishop Aymond’s latest letter. The governor extended the “stay home” mandate until May 15, 2020. Because “Church” is an essential part of our lives –public Mass can be celebrated but only 10 people may attend each Mass. The following directives are to be implemented for each Mass:
1. The people of the Archdiocese are dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass.
2. If someone is vulnerable and not feeling well, they should not celebrate Mass in church with other people.
3. Attendance at Mass: The number of people who can gather in the church is not to exceed 10 people. This applies also to Baptisms, Weddings and funerals. This number will increase gradually.
4. Social distancing must be observed – 6 feet apart. 5. Make sure all ministers observe proper hygiene of their hands. 6. Regarding the celebration of Mass: a. Ministers and parishioners should wear a mask. b. The priest/deacons should wear a mask at communion. c. Give communion with no bodily contact. Gently let the host touch
the person’s hand and drop it in their hand without touching them. d. Communion on the tongue is not encouraged. e. The chalice with the precious blood is not to be offered. f. The sign of peace can be given by bowing to the other person. g. As people depart from Mass, social distancing must be observed. h. For all of us here at Our Lady Star of the Sea catholic Church,
we will continue to have Facebook live streaming of our Sunday masses. And since the number of people who can gather in the church is only 10 people at this time, please call (504) 944 0166 if you would like to attend this weekend masses in the church (vigil Mass on Saturday at 4:00 pm and Sunday Mass at 10:00 am), until “stay home” mandate end on May 15, 2020.
Thank you for your patience with all of this! The number who may attend will increase gradually, but in the meantime, we want to cooperate, so the virus does not spread. Stay safe and God bless you Fr. Emanuel Tanu, SVD Pastor
Let us pray: Loving and faithful God, the coronavirus reminds us that we have no power and we are dependent on you. We place ourselves in your loving hands. Give eternal rest to all who have died from the virus. Place your healing hand on those who are ill and give your protection to us in this time of fear and uncertainty. Calm our fears and help us to trust you as our faithful God. Enlighten our government and Church leaders as they are faced with important decisions. Give blessing to those in health care and protect them. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor hasten to help us. Blessed Francis Seelos, pray for us. Our Lady Star of the Sea Pray for us. Stay safe and healthy. God bless

Condolences: Condolences to family Ms. Nelda Millon passed away last week. Please remember Ms. Nelda Millon and her family in your prayers. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let your Perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Thank You For Your Church Offerings: My dear parishioners, I would like to thank all of you for your continued contributions to Our Lady Star of the Sea during this difficult time. I am aware that many of you use the online giving program, some of you drop off your envelopes at the rectory/office. Please know that your generous contributions to support our Church have always been greatly appreciated. Your stewardship is an act of thanksgiving for all that God has done for you, your family, and our community. During the Coronavirus pandemic, we cannot be physically to-gether to celebrate the Holy Mass but we can still make a gift of ourselves by continuing to support our parish by online giving or by sending your envelopes through US mail or simply dropping off your envelopes at the rectory/Church office. No gift is too small or insignificant. Again, thank you in advance for your parish support. I pray may God continue to bless you and your family abundantly as you share your financial blessing with our church community.
