ST. BONAVENTURE COLUMBUS, NE

CHURCH CLEANING

Crew #5 will clean church on Nov. 30 at 5:00 p.m.

From our Pastor…. The Project 2020 Steering Committee has received some questions regarding seating for physically impaired people attending Mass after the renovations. Below is the response to the concerns. From the beginning of this project, it was made clear by the Steering Committee that Project 2020 needed to ac-commodate the physically disabled and elderly members of our parish regarding parking and seating accommodations. One major feature of Project 2020 is the elimination of steps at the main entrances to the church and parish center! One exception are the three steps on the north side of nave (main seating area of the church), where we currently exit to the restrooms. Some have voiced a concern that, with the removal of the chapel, all the physically impaired people will be forced to sit in the back of church. The Building Committee exam-ined the idea of keeping the chapel. However, given the age and condition of the current structure, and its impact on the placement of the new facility, it was not financially or physically practical to keep the existing parish center and chapel. While there will be space for the physically impaired in the back of the nave, the proposed changes to the nave will include removing a pew(s) in the middle of the nave to ac-commodate wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility assist devices. Also, by removing a pew(s) at the front of the nave, there will be more space for those who wish to be close to the altar. It is our hope and intent that the availabil-ity of such seating accommodations will make it easier for all parishioners to participate more fully in our liturgies. We are called to be the Body of Christ, unified, together as a worshipping body, not disconnected from the rest of the worshipers watching a TV screen, but experiencing and participating in the liturgy as one Body of Christ. Those who experience difficulty walking to Communion will have the option of remaining in their seat and receiv-ing the Precious Body from an EMHC who will come to them. While the removal of existing pews within the nave will reduce the overall seating capacity of our church, the seat-ing accommodations for our elderly and disabled will be significantly improved! Seasonal liturgies that experience overcrowding will be allowed to “overflow” conveniently into the new parish hall. But in order to utilize our facili-ties and ministers as efficiently as possible, it is the Build-ing Committee’s hope and expectation that, over time, all of the regular Mass times will be uniformly attended, re-ducing the over-crowding at any one individual Mass time and filling up the pews at the other available Mass times. To accommodate those who have difficulty hearing, an improved sound system will be installed as part of the renovation. We are still taking donations for the completion of our facilities to be enjoyed by us now and a legacy for future generations. Thank you for your comments and interest in this project!

Blessings!

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP

When I was growing up, my parents told me about Elvis Presley, the King of Rock 'n' Roll. He received that title from fans due to the huge effect he had on rock music. When I was a teenager, people called Michael Jackson the King of Pop. The designation was based on the fact that he had so many hits for so many years and because of his power as a live performer. The title of king carries with it a lot of weight and communicates to people that the one bearing the title is at the pinnacle of some-thing, some people, or some reality. I sometimes even like to say that I am King of the House, but my wife can easily remind me that a true king would have servants and would not have to take out the trash by themselves. Touché! There are many kings of many things, but only one King of the Universe. If you were the king of a kingdom, all would be your subjects. In the universe, all creation bows down to this king. No other king stands above him. All belongs to Him, although much is given to each of us as gift. He gives out of love and our love for Him should cause us to use those gifts for His glory, for we are more than simple subjects. We are sons and daughters of the King. We are royalty due to the mark of Baptism. Elvis and Michael are gone. Monarchs from different eras and places have vanished. However, our King is alive and well, call-ing us to have full membership in His Kingdom. His name is Jesus. His Kingdom is at hand.

Green Fiber Recycling Bins We appreciate all the paper and cardboard you contribute to the Green Fiber recycling bins. St. Bonaventure parishioners are great recyclers. Here are a few tips you can help us with! 1.ALWAYS flatten your boxes. Our bins fill up fast, but they

fill up faster if you do not flatten your boxes. 2. NEVER put cardboard or paper outside of the bins. If the

bins are full, please wait to drop off your paper. When people start putting paper on the outside of the bins it makes a very big mess which upsets our neighbors and the police depart-ment. Papers tend to blow outside of our recycling area.

3. NEVER put trash, plastics, cans etc. in the recycling bins. We can only accept paper and cardboard.

4. BE PATIENT! Sometimes our bins do not always get dumped on time. Our bins are usually emptied on Fridays. Trucks break down, drivers change jobs, etc. Some things are just beyond our control so please be patient if the bins are full.

Thanks again for being great recyclers!
