AWANA HAPPENINGS
Pastor & Popcorn night was held in November and it was a fun time! Pastor Ross visited each Bible
time and sat on the floor with the kids while he answered questions! The kids were told they could ask
anything they want, and they did! A few examples of the questions are:
Why did you become a pastor? What three books of the Bible only have one chapter in them?
If you had to choose between your son and God who would you choose? When is your birthday?
What is your favorite Bible story? Book of the Bible? Football team? Color? Memory?
Where do babies come from?
Ross did a great job at answering most of the questions! Thanks to everyone who made this night so
successful!
THE MASTER’S RINGERS
The Master’s Ringers are celebrating 25 years of being part of Maurice Reformed Church.
It started with a demonstration choir consisting of 11 or 12 people who were interested in adding
hand bells to our music worship. We even had a couple of men as part of that—John Vander Stelt
and Greg Haverdink (a little side note—Greg doesn’t read music and I had to elbow him when his
notes were coming up). The decision was made to purchase a three octave set and they arrived
on October 25, 1993 (so technically we are 26 years old). This was made possible through the
giving of donations. Jan Van Voorst, Jan Budden, and myself have been the directors. Our first big
event was playing the Processional and Recessional for Curt and Jennifer (Hoogland) Vlietstra’s
wedding on December 30, 1994. Rick Roghair spent a day with us working on our technique.
We have played for a few other weddings also, including that of Travis and Amy (Vande Kieft)
Rozeboom. We attended several conferences, ringing with 400-500 other ringers. Conferences we
attended were in Cedar Falls, Omaha, Council Bluffs, and Sioux Falls, to name a few. We have
used our talents to entertain at the New Homestead in Sioux Center, Senior Citizens in Orange
City, and several times at Landsmeer in Orange City. We have joined other hand bell choirs at 1st
Reformed in Hull and 1st Reformed in Orange City. Several members have come and gone—each
bringing their own special talents, gifts, & personalities to our group.
Past members are: John and Denise Vander Stelt, Amy Ruhland, Michelle De Haan, Lonna Kluis,
Lorna Bylsma, Jan Budden, Sandy Holtrop, Lisa Leusink, Marla Hoogland,
Winova Van Regenmorter, Dawn Beukelman, Lisa Vander Brink, Linda Broek, and
Christina Vander Stelt (please accept our apologies if we have inadvertently left anyone out).
Current members are: Dawn De Weerd, Karen Leusink, Marcia Cleveringa, Charlene Oolman,
Amy Vander Zwaag, Faye Vander Lugt, Donna Muilenburg, Sharon Vermeer, Nancy Mouw,
Sharon Plendl, Holly Dekkers, Wanda Hofmeyer, and myself, Judy Vlietstra.
25 year members are: Marcia Cleveringa, Karen Leusink, Donna Muilenburg, Sharon Plendl,
Faye Vander Lugt, and myself.
We have lots of fun—lots of laughter, inside jokes, puns, etc. Please consider joining us
for the next 25 years.

Moments in Missions
The special offering for the month of December is: Fleece Blankets for Costa Rica
The fleece has been cut, and now waiting for individuals, families, and Life Groups
or Bible Studies to join with the Costa Rica team in preparing the last 100 blankets.
Our special offering will cover the costs at about $12 per blanket. Pick up the
fleece material and directions from the Fellowship Hall to complete these blankets.
Take time to pray also for each individual that will receive a blanket, hygiene kit,
wheelchair, and an opportunity for Hope!
Esperanza Hope Costa Rica Mission Opportunity -- One Goal—Advancing Hope
As with any mission experience, as planning takes place, some details change. We now have 11
members on our MRC team and 2 going from Hope Haven. Pray for this 13 member team as they receive their passports, raise finances, and prepare for the
trip. Watch for upcoming fundraising opportunities coming in your mailbox.
We now have 150 hygiene kits that will be assembled on Dec. 8 during a Christmas Program
practice break. Pray that there will be room in the crate for all these kits and the blankets.
Keep filling our piggy bank with your spare change! And pray for each of the over 100 recipients who will receive the wheelchairs through this distribution.
January 14 projected prayer send-off of shipping container. Pray for the shipment of the
container to Costa Rica and that each wheelchair and the additional hygiene kits and blankets
will be able to clear customs easily.
ONGOING GIVING & SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
There are over 80 gifts suggestions hung on
the trees for Angel Tree and the Atlas
Christmas Store. Please pray for the recipients
of these items as you give an item for the
store, or for a family member of someone
who is incarcerated. We will need
volunteers to deliver from December 14-21 to
homes in Rock Valley and Sioux City to the
families affected. Please stop by the tables to
pick up a gift suggestion or sign up to deliver
after all the gifts are collected. Any questions,
contact Kelli Bartlett at 712-441-4220 or
On December 15, after our Sunday worship service, we will be laying
wreaths on the 56 gravesites of veterans at the Sherman cemetery.
The wreaths will be available for those who have sponsored a wreath and
others who are willing to help lay the rest on the marked plots. Pray for the
families of those who have lost loved ones serving our country.
This Christmas, focus on what matters!
We’ve heard it said before: If we don’t schedule the things that
are important to us, they won’t happen. This applies to the
Christmas season as much as it does to regular workouts and
coffee dates with friends. As you think about this Christmas, we
challenge you and your family to schedule the things that really
matter to you for your family Christmas ahead of time. If you
don’t give these important priorities space, they’ll get pushed
out by the demands of the season. In other words, this world has A LOT of tactics to distract us from the true spirit of the season
which is love. Love for God, and love for others.
