active in the women’s circles. She also enjoyed cooking, especially her lemon pies and fried chicken,
gardening, playing cards and the piano by ear, and traveling, which included Texas, California,
Florida, Holland, Hawaii, and Alaska.
Spending time with her children and grandchildren was especially fun for her, and she loved
visiting and babysitting whenever possible.

Sunday Evening Worship
We encourage you to come to Sunday evening
worship. When asked “How do we keep our kids
in the church?” The quick reply on Renewing
your Mind was, “Get them to Evening Worship.”
Is it a guarantee? No, but it is a means of grace
that God uses to bring us to a greater
knowledge of Him and “sharpen our axes for the
week.” It’s also a great way to end the Lord’s
day. The schedule for the month is:
September 9—Justin Schrock
September 23—Rev. Steve Breen
September 30—Rev. Carl Klompein If you would like to share special music or know
of someone who would, please contact a
member of the committee.

Life Groups are Kickin’ Off!
Get ready for the start of Life Groups! We will be kicking off the year on Sunday,
September 16 with a study called Community by Andy Stanley. As groups go
through the video and questions, Pastor Ross will also be preaching on a
corresponding topic. We look forward to groups getting to know one another and
growing closer to the Lord. Your Life Group leader will be in touch with you
regarding the specific details of when and where your group will be meeting.
If you didn’t get a chance to sign-up for Life Groups in August, you can still sign up anytime before
September 16. Feel free to sign-up online at our church website,
or talk to Marissa Maassen or Don DeKok.
Coming this month is a new worshipping environment at MRC—One church/Two spaces—the
sanctuary and the Refuge. Both worshipping God together at MRC at 9:30.
Why one service, two spaces? Instead of going back to the two service format this fall, the consistory made a decision to try this format for the fall. This new worship opportunity at
MRC allows the congregation to worship together, in the same building, at the same time.
As MRC continues to grow, space is needed for visitors to feel welcome, and this opportunity
also creates a space for growth. Opening up the Refuge allows for more worship space.
What does that mean for you as a member at MRC? Every person at MRC has an opportunity to worship in either the sanctuary or the Refuge each Sunday. However, in order
for space to be made in the sanctuary, we are asking for groups of MRC members to volunteer
to worship for a month or several weeks in the Refuge and possibly in a rotation throughout the
year. It is the goal that both MRC groups stay connected, and are not separate worshipping
bodies.
Will the worship be different? It is the plan for the worship content to essentially be the same in both venues. Starting on Sunday, September 9, there will be a live video feed from the
sanctuary to the Refuge, with some live video from the Refuge also going into the sanctuary.
In the future, it is hoped that there may be live parts of the service in both areas or at varying
times. These details are still to be determined, so stay tuned for more updates. God is at work at
MRC. He is the focus of our worship. Pray for this process, and for God to use our worship and
our church to bring Him praise.

in on any given Tuesday.
Visitors are always welcome!
The mission offering for the month of August was for
Whispers of Love, Hope & Joy, a non-profit organization
started by Pastor Deb Rensink. I had the pleasure of
sitting down to lunch with Pastor Deb to learn more
about her ministry and how Maurice Women’s Ministry
can get involved. Whispers of Love, Hope & Joy helps to
bring the gospel through the gift of healing and
encouragement to women and children who are
affected by IPV (intimate partner violence). The MWM
will be donating $500 to Whispers of Love, Hope & Joy to be used for the start-up
design cost and initial purchase of cloth bags which will be handed out to women
and children in emergency situations at the Family Crisis Center, the bags contain
self care products. Another area MRC and the MWM can help to support this
ministry is through devotionals and bibles for women, families, and children. For the
month of September, I would like to challenge you to go through your personal
libraries and your children’s libraries for donations of nicely used devotionals and
bibles for women, families, and/or children. Many of the women and families have
never read a bible and are not familiar with how to navigate scripture for words of
healing and encouragement, this is where Pastor Deb begins her ministry by
introducing them to the gospel. There is a box located by the church mailboxes
where you may bring your donation of devotionals and bibles. This fall, the MWM
will invite Pastor Deb to speak about IPV and her ministry, Whispers of Love, Hope &
Joy, during an educational evening of women’s fellowship. Date and time to be
determined. - Lana Bruxvoort

PRAYER ROOM - SEPTEMBER
Moments in Missions The special offering for the month of September is:
Area Christian Schools (please mark your check or envelope with “Special” & place in the plate with your offering)
Did you know… there are 42 students from our MRC family that attend a Christian school? Please
consider giving to our local Christian schools with your special offering this month to help support
their tuition.
Another way you can easily support our local Christian schools year round is through the TRIP
program. TRIP stands for Tuition Reduction Incentive Program. This is a program that is used by
many Christian schools in our area. This program is a way to help families earn money for their
tuition. TRIP users purchase gift cards from the school office and can use them at the retailers for
full amount. Each retailer that participates in the program has a certain percentage that they give
to the school. This money goes towards student’s tuition accounts. These gift cards work great for
grocery purchases, gas, clothing, gifts, etc. It is money you would be spending anyway, but
through this program a small portion can go toward tuition expenses as well! Anybody can
participate in this program by setting up an account at an area Christian school. Even if your kids
do not attend one of these schools, you can still set up an account to purchase gift cards, and you
can designate your percentage to be split between the families of Maurice Reformed.
Please keep our students and teachers in your prayers this month as they begin a new school year.

This past June, Brad shared the following
related to the last school year with First Priority, Pray
for Brad/and his team as they start their new
school year this month.
“I wanted to let you know that we had an
incredible school year with First Priority. We are still
getting numbers in, but as of today 30,733 students
a week were involved in 820 clubs in 41
communities. 3608 students were trained as
leaders for their First Priority club. 9,261 students
committed their lives to Christ, and we are still
counting. We are praying that this number will go
over 10,000…! This year, we developed an app so
students can lead their club from their phone.
We also started Coordinator training online, which
has helped me not travel as much. As you can
see, God has blessed this ministry and our efforts.
We couldn't do it without people like you
that partner with us. 85% of our budget is given by
individuals, so thank you for your willingness to
partner with us financially. There are thousands of
places to give and many worthy causes. I know that
you give generously to many.”
Family update: Josiah is officially a freshman
at the University of Tennessee. We moved him in on
August 17! During Freshman orientation we enjoyed
learning more about the school and are very
excited for him and proud of him. Kaci moved into
our guest room on the last day of school and is
enjoying having her own room and the privacy that
comes along with it. Morgan is also enjoying having
her own room, and has enjoyed lots of swimming
and some friend time so far this summer. George
finished up t-ball and enjoyed swimming lessons. He
can float for 3 seconds by himself! He is also quite
good at getting on his sisters’ nerves. Thanks for your
friendship.

College Outreach at MRC
Over the past several months, there has been a
stirring in our hearts to minister to the students at
Northwestern College. The needs of the students
has been an eye opener! They long for
community, a sense of belonging and the
security of family they leave behind when they
go away to college. We started our journey with
Northwestern College as a host family and it has
been a life changing experience! Our host
student has brought a new dimension to our
family and we will be forever grateful for the
newest 'daughter' in our family. The host family
program gives you the opportunity to open your
home and your hearts to a student at NWC that is
often times far from their real home. As a host
family, you have the chance to open your home
for laundry or meals, encourage your student
throughout the year, attend his or her events,
concerts, games, etc. Most of all, you are able to
love them exactly where they are in life. Its' an
incredibly rewarding experience! If you're
interested to learn more about becoming a host
family, please get in touch with Amber Leusink.
As our relationship grew with our host student, the
urge to minister to more NWC students grew
stronger and stronger. College is a critical time in
a young adults life: the current generation of
college students is the largest since the baby
boom, but the lowest to grow up in church. We
not only wanted to show our love and hospitality
to area college students, but also invite them to
witness the MRC experience! We have something
very special at MRC, and we want everyone to
experience it! Considering 80% of current college
students have never had a significant church
experience, why not show them what we have at
Maurice?! Our dream was dreamed and after
months of planning and coordinating, we hosted
our first event at MRC on August 13th. The
Orientation Staff joined us for an evening of
praise and worship, food, and lots of fun! The "O
Staff" is a group of 36 students who arrive to
college a week early and spend hours of
planning and coordinating to ensure the new
students on campus feel welcome, special and
beloved. We weren't sure how the night would
be received, but it blew our expectations out of
the water!
The praise and worship time led by many
of MRC's praise team members was
amazing...you could feel the Holy Spirit alive
and with us! The students enjoyed worshiping
with us as well as receiving some encouraging
words from Pastor Ross. We were also able to
show the students what MRC does best:
cook! Gary Van Donkelaar spoiled us with
smoked pork loin and the students were served
with love by several of MRC's finest women
doing what they do best: serve and love! The
remainder of the evening was spent
connecting with the students through their
various love languages: personal conversations
around a table, playing dodgeball or 9 Square
in the Family Life Center, and of course, more
eating! We capped the evening with brownie
sundaes and sent the students on their way
back to campus. We didn't want them to
leave and it felt like the feeling was
mutual. The gratitude expressed from the
students was overwhelming: they were so
appreciative of the night we planned for them
and many of them inquired about our Sunday
service!
Beginning August 26th, we
will be offering transportation
to MRC from NWC via our
bus ministry. This is truly a
"Field of Dreams"
moment: "if you build it, they
will come". We are hopeful
many students will take
advantage of this offering
and join us on Sunday's for
worship at MRC! This is a time of growing and
trusting and I encourage you to keep this
ministry outreach in your prayers. MRC is such
a warm and welcoming church family and I
challenge you to be intentional when you see
some younger people joining us on Sunday
mornings. They long for community and a
sense of belonging: welcome them with open
arms and love them right where they are. We
have more events for NWC students in the
planning stages for Labor Day weekend, Fall
break, and beyond! We hope to show the
students our doors are always open and would
love to walk with them in this phase of their life!
-Steve & Amber Leusink
I went to camp at Inspiration Hills July 9th-13th. My counselor was Uncle Aaron. My favorite
thing to do was the zip line, although another fun thing was to play "sleeping lion". This week,
the best thing to eat at camp were the chicken tenders. I liked the visual about Christmas lights
hanging all the time representing the way we can shine all the time for Jesus. - Shaun Leusink
I went to camp at Inspiration Hills from June 18-22. My counselor was Aunt Deinky (Emily
Deinken). My favorite foods were Mac 'n Cheese, pizza, and pancakes. I liked to swim at the
pool even though it rained a lot the week I was there so we only got to go twice. I also liked to
play a game called Giants, Wizards, and Trolls. I want to let my light shine for Jesus by telling
people about Him. My favorite activity was whale watching. It was a really big challenge to
balance. - Alyson Leusink
I went to Discovery Camp July 25-27. Aunt Katie was my counselor. My favorite food was the
BBQ chicken. It was SO yummy! I really liked doing the Amazing Race. My favorite part of that
was frisbee golf. Other fun things we did were the giant slip and slide, zip line, and hamster
wheel. One of our chapel skits was about Christmas in July. There were Christmas lights that
were shining. We learned that we can shine for Jesus all year long, not only at Christmas. I’m
going to shine for Jesus by singing, praying, and helping people. - Tricia Jansma
I went to Wilderness Camp July 23-27. My counselor was Uncle Ted. (I had him last year at
Wilder too!). I really liked playing Wilder Ball. (Kind of like Ultimate Dodge Ball). We did The
Amazing Race. I played ALOT of carpet ball. My favorite food was the pancakes & sausages.
We folded the pancake around the sausage and ate it like a taco. Our chaplain talked about
the story of Mary and Martha. We need to be like Mary and listen to Jesus instead keeping so
busy like Martha. Our theme verse was, “A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” I’m going to shine
my light for Jesus by being kind and a good friend. - Cole Jansma
I went to Discover Camp at Inspiration Hills July 25-27. My counselor was Aunt Hannah.
My favorite parts of camp included the slip n slide and the BBQ chicken. I enjoyed the nature
trails and the bonfire. I learned that God is the Light and I should not be afraid to SHINE HIS
LIGHT BRIGHT! I was reminded that I can shine the light by praising God and telling others about
Him. -Taylor Holverson
I went to Discovery Camp the end of July. My counselor was Aunt Katelyn. My favorite activity
was the scavenger hunt, and I really enjoyed playing the game Concentration 64. I also liked
free time because we had 3 hours to do things like crafts, swimming, games, and lots more.
I learned that God cares about everyone. I want to tell more people about Jesus and act
more Christ-like. -Joslyn Vis
The end of July I went to Discovery Camp. My counselor was Uncle Lucas. My favorite activity
was BB guns, which I got to do during my 3 hours of free time. We also had a campfire with
s’mores while a counselor played his guitar and everyone sang along by the fire and told
stories. I learned more about God during the chapel time. This was my first year at camp.
I loved it, and hope I get to go back again next year! - Cody Vis
I went to Day Camp at Inspirations Hills. My counselor was Aunt Lexi. My favorite activity was
the hunt. My favorite food was tavern. My favorite thing to do was the hunt. What I learned
about God was tell everybody about him, and be the light. - Kendra Baartman
CAMP EXPERIENCES
I went to the Christian Hockey Ministries camp at Blaine, MN in June. I went with 8 other
hockey players from the Sioux Center area. My counselor was Dillon, and we stayed in
dorms located at the National Sports Center, which was right by the ice rink. My favorite
times were when we were on the ice. One of my goalie coaches was Chico Resch, he
was a goalie in the NHL for many years, and he is a strong Christian. When we weren't on
the ice, we were doing other things like playing soccer, and at night we had chapel and
small groups. My favorite food for the week ended up being saltine crackers, cause late
on Tuesday I started feeling sick, and Wednesday morning they called my Mom and Dad
to come and get me from camp. Mom and Dad got a room at a hotel that was right by
the sports complex, and I stayed with them the next couple of nights. By Thursday I was
feeling better to participate in the on-ice activities again. I learned a lot about God this
week, that he is always there for me and will never leave my side. Whenever I play
hockey, I want to do my best and show others that I love Jesus. - David Vander Zwaag
I went to Discovery Camp. I went July 25-27. My Counselor was Aunt Deinky ( Emily
Deinken). My favorite activity was the slip n slide! I liked the spaghetti and bread sticks.
The fun things I did were doing the slip n slide, going on the zipline, singing songs and
learning about God. I learned that God is always with us. He will never leave us. I want to
let my light shine for Jesus by reading the Bible and telling other people about Jesus.
I hope I can go to camp again next year! - Kylee Wielenga
I went to camp at Hidden Acres. It is by Dayton, IA. My favorite camp activity was
Conquest, which is pretty much capture the flag with 8 different teams. My favorite food
at camp was the cinnamon roll waffles. They were amazing. The theme of the camp was
cultivate. It was all about cultivating a good relationship with God. - Landon Hofmeyer
I went to camp at Inspiration Hills at the end of July. My counselor was Aunt Heather. My
favorite activities were the zipline and hamster wheel. My favorite foods were the baked
potatoes and tavern. My favorite song we sang was Days of Elijah. Thank you for all the
notes at camp! - Morgan Cleveringa
I went to camp at Inspiration Hills and my counselor was Uncle Keaton. I enjoyed the
zipline and hamster wheel. I loved the tavern. I want to let my light shine for Jesus when I
get older and have my own kids. I want to raise my kids to love God. Thank you, MRC, for
sending me to camp and writing me letters. - Kennedy Cleveringa
I went to Inspiration Hills Saddle Up Camp. We played games, ate, had chapel, practiced
Safety Knots, walked horses, rode horses, had T.A.W.G. (Time Alone With God), swimming,
got snacks at the canteen, and Oat Time. Our counselor was Emma. I stayed there for 4
nights and 5 days. My favorite part of camp was working with the horses. Thank you for
supporting my camp experience! - Elsie Van Beek
