Wishing you all a very happy festive season. It gives me immense pleasure and pride to see how we all are growing and achieving newer milestones. I wish you all and your family, a very Happy Diwali and a Prosper- ous New Year. May God Bless You so that you can seize the opportunities that life presents you! We are at the cusp of a revolu- tion and I am certain that we are all moving in the right direction. Some of our new and old members are leading the way and driving excellence. I believe that we have all the knowledge and the means required to achieve success in all that we set out to do. That is why, this festive season, my message to you is “Carpe Diem” - which is Latin for "seize the day". Sep - Oct 2016 Dr. Vithal Kamat Chairman, Kamat Group Full Speed Ahead! In these last few months, we have moved fast and made some decent headway towards our goals. I would like to reflect on some of these developments and also share updates about the new outlets, our processes and achievements. There are some best practices for us all to learn so that we continue to Grow Together as the Kamat Khandan. Our first ALL WOMEN OUTLET at Palava. Recently, I visited the Palava Mall. It houses one of our newest outlets. But this outlet is unlike any other. This one is very very special. Not only is this outlet using all of the latest skill reduction techniques that we have been developing over the last three years, but it is something much beyond that. It is our first All Women Outlet!!! Yes that’s right! This was a challenge we took up and it has paid rich dividends. This is beneficial to the outlet because we have seen that women are highly focused on their jobs, have less turnover and are much more focused towards cleanliness and hygiene. In addition, we had to develop systems to make it possible for non-experienced staff to be able to produce the same results as compared to experienced restaurateurs. And the results have been great! As you can see the number of people required in the outlet is just four. That’s right. Imagine the complete core menu being delivered by just four people, even during peak sales. Well it is possible and is happening. That is why I was very excited to meet all these fabulous women who are real pioneers. Just like Neil Armstrong, we believe that this “One small step for (wo)men, is a giant leap for (Kamats) Mankind” I had a great time interacting with them and learning about how operations could be improved at the outlet level. I saw that the kitchen is so well organized that they have lots of unused space. In fact, out of the 400 sq feet area, they have used just 200 sq ft! Overall, the Palava Mall is great. Unfortu- nately, it too a very long time to get operational. However, we were ready four months before the mall opened! Full Speed Ahead!In these last few months, we have moved fast and made some decent headway towards our goals. I would like to reflect on some of these developments and also share updates about the new outlets, our processes and achievements. There are some best practices for us all to learn so that we continue to Grow Together as the Kamat Khandan.

Our first ALL WOMEN OUTLET at Palava.

Recently, I visited the Palava Mall. It houses one of our newest outlets. But this outlet is unlike any other. This one is very very special. Similarly we have another MM and his sister who recently started an outlet at Mira Road. Here, we had our share of new hiccups. Including an old building where the electricity meter couldn’t take the load of the new all electric outlet. While the trials went smoothly, just like Murphy’s law, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong at the worst possible moment.

Any ways, every hurdle teaches us something. The lesson learnt here is that we need to change old things like meters and wires and not rely on the landlords alone. We should confirm the load bearing capacity with the electric company.

In these outlets, items like our filter coffee has been popular. The product with its quality and more importantly consistency has been superb. I always believe that the key in food business, is consistency. Even more than quality. People want consistency in everything. Whether it is a cricketer, an employee, or even their favourite restaurant. Nobody likes fluctuation. So in food, consistency is the key.

Overall, the outlet looks great. This paves the way for other city outlets where we were definitely lagging behind. Now we can confidently enter all cities, like Mumbai, Pune Nashik, Surat Ahmedabad. Till now we were focused on the highways and lacked smaller model which could be set up in less than 400 sq.ft. (which is the standard maximum size they provide you in a food court), but now we can confidently enter and expand faster.

For Our New Franchisees

While we were there we also had detailed discussions with our Nagpur franchisee and had the usual discussion. Right from "Why not Tandoor items?", "Why no Chinese?" and so many of the usual points. Well, it might be usual to me or the team at Kamats, but its always a first for the prospective franchisee who’s looking at Kamat’s

We also have started the new owner induction format. Where each new owner has to compulsory train for a minimum of two days (three days in Mumbai) where we make the owner experience and understand all the “Kamats Systems” so that it becomes very easy to imple-ment and understand the philosophy and how we work. At the same time they get to interact with all team members and understand the finer aspects like food standards, how to do things, the logistics, delivery formats and so much more.

Other DevelopmentsIn other developments, we would like to share that Conference Calling Facili-ty is now available. It will aid interaction and updates between all the units and head office.

Food committee will be discussing the trials of Thick Shake machine at various outlets, Filter Coffee implementation at trial outlets. In addition, Frozen Vithal Vada is under trials within the Mumbai circle.

First of one very BIG senior level announcement. Our very own, (Chef) Chandrakant Shetty has been promoted to head the entire restaurant chain. He was already heading the VITS – business hotels division and now shall be looking after Kamats restaurants as well. In addition, he will continue to head the marketing committee of the franchise owners.

Chandrakant has been with Kamats Khandan for over 13 years now, and this bond has only strengthened with time. I wrote chef because he hails from the “kitchen” background and has been a management trainee product of the company. He has implemented premix, gravies and other items in VITS and is very well versed with what needs to be done at Kamats.

We are pleased to share that on 18th September 2016, Kamat Group of Hotels participated in a Job Mela held for the residents of Janu Bhoi (Malad) SRA towers and other areas in the vicinity. The event also had participation from other corporate companies like Godrej (our skill partners), ICICI Foundation, Nidan Technologies, etc.

At the job mela, several candidates got confirmed jobs. After checking a candidates profile and suitability for a particular job of his/her interest, we provide the candidate a letter of appointment or a letter for interview on the spot. Kamat Group received close to 100 applications during this event.
