Our name is Health

Baptist Health South Florida is one of America’s preeminent healthcare institutions. Headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida, Baptist Health includes 10 hospitals, over 40 physician practices and more than 50 outpatient facilities. Our clinical quality ranks us among the best hospital systems in the nation, and we have been recognized for being among the best healthcare providers in the country by U.S. News & World Report.

With more than a million patient visits every year, we receive rave reviews from the people we serve. In fact, patients and their families from around the world travel to Miami for our medical expertise. We are proud of our team: approximately 19,500 employees and 3,000 physicians in virtually all specialties — many with national and international reputations.

Our nurses are committed to excellence — delivering quality, compassionate care to our patients, innovating new practices, leading groundbreaking research and advancing their profession. Four Baptist Health hospitals — Baptist Hospital, Homestead Hospital, South Miami Hospital and West Kendall Baptist Hospital — achieved Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in recognition of professionalism and excellence in nursing. Mariners Hospital, a Critical Access Hospital, was the first hospital in Florida to achieve ANCC Pathway to Excellence designation. All of this and more make us South Florida’s world-class healthcare organization.

OUR NOT-FOR-PROFIT, FAITH-BASED MISSION

Baptist Health provides more charity care as a percentage of patient revenue (4.7 percent of total patient revenue) than nearly any other hospital or hospital group in Miami-Dade County. In 2017, Baptist Health spent $291 million for charity care and other community benefits. This is four times the value of our tax exemption. Baptist Health’s faith-based mission of caring extends to thousands of the less fortunate members of our community. Some examples from 2017:

n Approximately 20,000 people received charity care.

n Baptist Health provided about 158,000 services to Medicaid recipients that cost more than we were reimbursed.

n Community residents received free or low-cost health screenings, educational programs and exercise classes, totaling approximately 225,000 encounters.

n We contributed $2.3 million to community clinics that provided over 16,000 primary care patient visits.

By collaborating with donors and volunteers, Baptist Health Foundation helps people at all financial levels, including the uninsured. Through philanthropy, the Foundation supports and expands Baptist Health’s ability to provide outstanding patient care and bring the latest treatments to patients and families affected by a serious illness. Donor contributions also allow the Foundation to assist Baptist Health facilities in keeping pace with technology and equipment advances, performing cutting-edge research and offering continuing education opportunities to medical staff.

The generosity of donors enables our organization to “think big” — to expand our vision and provide the most innovative and compassionate care to every patient who enters our doors. Simply put, philanthropy powers our progress.

Traditional funding sources for not-for-profit organizations like ours, such as federal grants, simply can’t cover the costs of groundbreaking research and the newest treatments and technologies that can change and save lives.

When you donate to Baptist Health, your dollars are responsibly invested in supporting our commitment to providing a caring, compassionate patient experience that is second to none. Your contributions help us attract and retain the finest clinicians in the industry, obtain the most effective technologies, fund potentially lifesaving research and build and maintain superior facilities — all in the best interest of our patients.

Our more than 19,500 employees and 3,000 physicians share our dedication to providing exceptional care with genuine concern and compassion to patients and their families. We’ll never stop giving our best to allow others to be at their best. The generosity of donors will help us continue to deliver on that promise.
