Swimming Carnival 2020
What a great carnival we had on Monday at Ryde Aquatic Centre. Our students were very involved in the
events and it was terrific to see such enthusiastic swimmers.
Thank you to all parents who helped make this such an enjoyable day and for your assistance in running
the carnival. To the staff and Ms Rutherford, congratulations on your wonderful organisation. What a
success it was!

Greenwich Public School Swimming Carnival 2020
On Monday 10 February, our annual swimming carnival
was held at Ryde Aquatic Centre. House Captains ably
led their houses in cheers, chants and war cries.
Students are commended on the high level of effort and
sportsmanship that was demonstrated on the day. A
special thanks must go to staff and parent helpers for
their assistance on the day. The North Shore Zone
Swimming Carnival will be held at Ryde Aquatic Centre
next on Friday 13 March. Your child will soon receive
their permission note, notifying them if they have
qualified. Good luck to all students representing
Greenwich Public School.

Swimming Carnival Team
Ethics Teachers for 2020
As the Ethics Co-ordinator for Greenwich Primary, I have seen the demand for Ethics grow exponentially
over the past few years, and the school has been blessed with a small but dedicated Ethics teaching team
comprised mostly of students’ parents or grandparents. Students and teachers have said how rewarding
they find these weekly classes, where students participate in respectful dialogue with classmates as they
discuss the thought-provoking questions posed. It is little wonder that 2020 is shaping up to have the most
students enrolled so far.
Each week, children discuss a topic from the approved Primary Ethics curriculum, and lesson plans are
provided, so you don’t need to create your own lessons. Students are given the opportunity to practice
skills like disagreeing respectfully with others, and are encouraged to try to find answers to the questions
posed by giving reasons, finding evidence, and building on other student’s ideas.
The increased number of classes mean we desperately need more volunteers if we are to cater for all
students next year. Previously, volunteers have needed to commit to teaching weekly classes, however
this has recently changed, with two volunteers now able to share a class and teach alternate weeks or
terms. The 30-minute classes currently take place between 2pm-3pm on Tuesday or Thursday, depending
on the year level.
Given the increased demand, it cannot be guaranteed that all years will have access to Ethics classes in
2020, unless more volunteers join the teaching team. Experience is not necessary, as Ethics teachers
receive full training through online modules and a comprehensive two-day training workshop, as well as
support from the Primary Ethics team.
It is vital that the recruitment and training process begin as soon as possible to ensure classes next year
can start without delay. If you, or anyone you know, might be interested in volunteering to teach Ethics
classes, more information (and the online application form) can be found at
primaryethics.com.au/volunteer. If you have any questions not answered by the website, please feel free
to email me at [email protected]. I look forward to welcoming you to our Greenwich Ethics
teaching team!
Sharlene Henderson (Ethics Co-ordinator)

URGENT: CLASS LISTS – EVERYONE PLEASE ADD YOUR DETAILS ONLINE
Due to privacy regulations, the P&C are required to ask parents every year for
their contact details. The school is also not able to provide us with a class list,
so we rely on all parents to provide us with this information. The class list
provides parents the opportunity to know who is in their child’s class and their
parent’s details plus allows everyone to be kept informed about what is going
on throughout the year.
If you haven’t already, please complete our online parent details form:
https://www.greenwichpandc.com/parent-contact-details-2020 as soon as possible. All children can be
done on the one form and you can also use the opportunity to let us know if you can help out through the
year.
CLASS PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Each year we ask for volunteers from each class to be a class parent. This is a fun way to meet the other
parents, become involved with your child's class and assist the teacher over the year. It doesn't require a
huge time commitment. In addition to generally supporting your child's teacher, the role of a class parent
is to:
o Distribute and keep the class contact list up to date
o Email information about general class news to the class
o Organise a few social events for the parents in your class (eg. drinks, dinners, plays in the park )
o Arrange an end of year collection/gift for your teacher
o Co-ordinate volunteers for excursions as required
o Sending out non-class specific emails/ communications/ reminders from the GPS P&C throughout
the year
If you are interested in becoming a class parent for 2020, please make sure you tick the box on the parent
details form which can be completed online here: https://www.greenwichpandc.com/parent-contact-
details-2020
