They see their lives as a blessing – even the difficult days – and recognize that they are not blessed to simply feel better about their lives, but – as stewards of God’s mercy – have been entrusted with the mission of sharing God’s love with the world around them transforming that world to look more like the Kingdom of God. As the word “disciple” means “student,” Christ’s followers at Centenary seek to grow in their knowledge about God, God’s Word and how to live this life of faith in the 21 st Century. Some avenues may be attractive than others but each one is looking for some opportunity to learn and grow in their faith. Centenary’s disciples recognize they are a part of a community – a church fami- ly – and they desire to be with the other members. Being together is not a last resort for when there is no better option, but a high priority in their lives. They may know some better than others; may even like some more than others, but they desire to love all the members even if – especially if – they do not always agree on every issue. If one of them hurts, they all hurt. If one of them cele- brates, they all rejoice. They care for each other and that caring witnesses to their love for their God. A significant part of their life together in community is spent in worshipping God. There is a hunger in their beings to be with each other in God’s presence: sing- ing, praying, reading the Scriptures together and hearing God’s word explored. Whether in good times or in times of pain, worshipping God is important to them. As they walk in this world, the disciples at Centenary see this world and its people the way God sees them. Each person is one whom God loves, for whom Christ died and of infinite worth to God. They ask, “What can we do to help them find their way home to God?” and “How can we serve Christ using the gifts and graces that the Holy Spirit has given us?” This will lead a disciple of Jesus to: love God, love people and make disciples. As they continue in that task they discover that not only have they been (and are continuing to be) changed but they are helping to transform the streets of Shel- byville and – perhaps to their surprise – even the world. ANGEL TREE — SALVATION ARMY Sadly, the Salvation Army Shelby County Unit has been disbanded due to lack of volunteers. Therefore, Centenary will not be bell ringing UNLESS a miracle happens. The Angel Tree is being handled differently this year because of lack of volunteers. The SCPS school Resources Center will be submitting names to the Angel Tree Committee. Centenary, is being asked to collect toys or appropriate items for infants to 15 years of age. Items need to be put in a plastic bag and brought to the church by the first week of December. They will be picked up by the Angel Tree Committee, assorted and distributed to the applicants. Again, the Salvation Unit appreciates your continued support. For Questions: Eleanor Warford 633-2802.

Included in the study will be a summary of each letter, its context, intended audience and its message. Key passages will be studied in depth.

Thanksgiving Beatitudes

Be thankful that you don’t have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes. They teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary, because it means you’ve made a difference.
