The salt spray test is a standardized test method (ASTM B117) used to check corrosion resistance of coated or non-coated metallic samples. Since coatings can provide a high corrosion resistance through the intended life of the part in use, it is necessary to check corrosion resistance at an accelerated rate.

Distilled water was used in the 5% salt solution preparation. Temperature readings were taken twice a day and averaged 95°F. The rate of salt solution collected in milliliters per hour was 1.38. The specific gravity of the solution collected at the chamber operating temperature was 1.036. The average pH of collected solution was 6.80.
