MAY 2010 LYAR – SIVAN 5770 from OY to JOY A DENVER JEWISH SENIOR ACTIVITY GUIDE VOLUME 3, ISSUE 5 FREE Over 1,200 Jewish teen athletes from around the world are coming to Denver this summer to participate in the JCC Maccabi Games®, an Olympic-style event that provides a unique combination of sports, cul- tural and social activities. Proud to host the Games for the very first time in Denver, the Robert E. Loup JCC invites you to share in the thrill of the Games August 1–6, 2010. More than 1,000 volunteers are needed to ensure the success of the 2010 Denver JCC Maccabi Games®. There are many ways you can assist to help make these Games memorable for the athletes and our community. The visiting athletes will travel with their local delegations to Denver on August 1, just in time for the first big event - Opening Ceremonies at DU’s Magness Arena. Volunteers are needed at the Opening Ceremonies to help usher, welcome, and direct people in all the right directions. The Games’ activities will continue bright and early on Monday morn- ing, August 2, with the beginning of the athletic competition. The sporting events will take place at multiple venues throughout Denver. Volunteers are needed at each venue to keep score, assist athletes in boarding the right busses, and be hosts and hostesses of our commu- nity, providing information to spectators at hospitality tables daily Monday through Friday. The Games are about a lot more than just athletics. The Games are about socializing and connecting with Jewish teens from around the world as well as celebrating Jewish values and culture. This creates a glow we canactually feel, and that is the key to actively taking charge of feelingbetter. Francine Juhasz, Ph.D. will be the instructor. Wednesday, May 12Colorado Mountain Casinos TripJoin us as we travel to our beautiful Coloradomountain casino towns ofBlackhawk and Central City, once booming gold mining towns inColorado. While Black hawk is famous for their exciting casinos, thetown is quite rich in history, too.A short history of Black Hawk is avail-able courtesy of the Gilpin County Museum staff. We will park in acentral location and everyone will have an opportunity to go to the casi-no of their choice! You can gamble or just enjoy the beautiful sceneryand explore the towns. There is a free shuttle that travels to both towns
