Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

Come to me, all you who labor and are bur-

dened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke

upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and

humble of heart; and you will find rest for your

selves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is

light. [Matt 11:28-30]

In Jesus’ time, plow animals always worked in

pairs. The yokes they used were specially fitted

to each animal to ease their burden so that they

could work together more easily and share the

load. So when Jesus says to take up his yoke,

he is offering to share our burdens, to help carry

our load as a partner on the journey.

Just as your left hand helps your right to

open a bottle, and just as your left eye works to-

gether in communion with your right seeing eve-

rything, Jesus is our partner, accomplishing eve-

rything with us, if we let him share the load. But

we may be unaware of his intimate assistance,

so he invites us to come to him so that we can

find the rest we need and the comfort that we

crave.

Questions for the week: What are some of

my burdens that I need to entrust to Jesus?

How can I accept the “yoke” of Jesus in my life?

Your pastor - Fr. Bob Cushing

Catorceavo Domingo en el Tiempo Ordinario

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos:

The Parish Family celebration of July 4: We had a marvelous family gathering early on the morning of July 4 to celebrate a simple Mass outside, at 9 AM, with over 50 people attending! This was followed by a shared brunch in the hall, then we enjoyed the children as they compet-ed in patriotically decorated bicycles. Prizes went for the best ones! With music, we danced and played and visit-ed. What a nice thanksgiving for all that is good in our country, a Happy Fourth of July! Thank you! Especially those who brought hot grits, jello and fruit. Again Lulu Gomez stole the show with her tres leche cake!

The New Catholic Answer Bible: NABRE. This is our parish favorite bible with RCIA Catechism inside as well as the best translation. Leather bound with larger print, $35. See Barbara in the office.

Free Catholic Digest Magazines! The publisher of this excel-lent Catholic Magazine on Faith and Family Living dropped 50 of the June issue on us. We placed them in the vestibule of the Church. Please take one home and enjoy reading the prayers and articles you need for a faith-filled summer!

The word from Pope Francis:

“…Dialoguing helps people to humanize rela-tionships and to overcome misunderstanding. There is a great need for dialogue in our fami-lies, and how much more easily would ques-tions be resolved if we could learn to listen to one another!”

While you are on vacation this summer, Thank You for not for-getting your parish! While we have fewer folks around, our expenses

are higher because of the heat. Last July, our Utilities amounted to $2,778; our parish assessment (tax to the diocese) $1,419; our pas-tor’s Health Insurance/Welfare etc. $2,708; our property insurance

$2,816 – just to give you a few of the “normal bills.” We ARE actually doing better so far this summer with our collections than last year. Thank you for being “mindful stewards” as we tighten our belts and

do without some things that are not absolutely essential. Pray that it’s not the Air Conditioning!

RCIA – The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults – will begin again next Tuesday evening, July 18, at 7:15 in the Par-ish Hall for all those who are interested in learning about the Catholic Faith. This Inquiry phase does not require any neces-sary commitment to the Catholic Church, just a commitment to study its teachings, history, scriptures, and the spiritual for-mation process that make a person Catholic. For more infor-mation, contact Fr. Bob Cushing at 478-284-5235 or [email protected] or call the office.

Youth Group will be meeting this weekend, July 9, at 4 PM in our usual place. Welcome back, Loretta, from your fun in the sun!

Making out your Will? Have you considered includ-ing your Parish in your will? Please see Fr. Bob about

details. Such eternal benefits, wow!
