LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA READINGS FOR THE WEEK
LISTENING AND RESPONDING There are three interwoven themes in today’s readings: listening to God, faith vs. good works, and losing our life in order to find it. How are they related? The Suffering Servant of Isaiah under-goes much distress and ridicule, but is able to bear it because he has listened to the promptings of God day after day. The psalm tells us that God listens, too. God hears our prayers for help and is always ready to save us. As our faith deepens, so does our desire to do the works of justice and charity that build up the reign of God. God directs our actions in ways we often cannot see, and we don’t always see the results. We are called upon in faith to trust that what we do is enough, and that willingness to listen to God’s promptings will lead us in the right way
ESCUCHANDO Y RESPONDIENDO En las lecturas de hoy se entrecruzan tres te-mas: escuchar a Dios, la fe vs. las buenas obras y perder nuestra vida para poder salvarla. ¿De qué
manera están relacionados estos temas? En Isaías, el Siervo Sufriente padece muchos disgustos y burlas, pero puede soportarlos porque ha escuchado los mensajes de Dios día tras día. El salmo nos dice que Dios también escucha. Dios escucha nuestras súplicas y siempre está dispuesto a salvarnos. Cuando nuestra fe se profundiza, también se profundiza nuestro deseo de hacer obras de justicia y caridad que fortalecen el Reino de Dios. Dios guía nuestras acciones de maneras que muchas veces no podemos ver y no
siempre vemos los resultados. Se nos llama en fe a confiar en que lo que hacemos es suficiente y que nuestra disposición a escuchar los mensajes de Dios nos guiará por el camino correcto.

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, During the next two lines, all bow. and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well, "but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. Indeed someone might say, "You have faith and I have works." Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demon-strate my faith to you from my works.
Jesus and his disciples set out for the villages of Caesarea Philippi. Along the way he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that I am?" They said in reply, "John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others one of the prophets." And he asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter said to him in reply, "You are the Christ." Then he warned them not to tell anyone about him. He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and rise after three days. He spoke this openly. Credo Creo en un solo Dios, Padre todo poderoso, Creador del cielo y de la tierra, de todo lo visible e invisible. Hermanos míos: ¿De qué le sirve a uno decir que tiene fe, si no lo demuestra con obras? ¿Acaso podrá salvarlo esa fe?
Supongamos que algún hermano o hermana carece de ropa y del alimento necesario para el día, y que uno de ustedes le dice: "Que te vaya bien; abrígate y come", pero no le da lo necesario para el cuerpo, ¿de qué le sirve que le digan eso? Así pasa con la fe; si no se traduce en obras, está completamente muerta.
Quizá alguien podría decir: "Tú tienes fe y yo tengo obras. A ver cómo, sin obras, me demues-tras tu fe; yo, en cambio, con mis obras te demostraré mi fe".
En aquel tiempo, Jesús y sus discípulos se diri-gieron a los poblados de Cesarea de Filipo. Por el camino les hizo esta pregunta: "¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo?" Ellos le contestaron: "Algunos dicen que eres Juan el Bautista; otros, que Elías; y otros, que alguno de los profetas".
Entonces él les preguntó: "Y ustedes ¿quién dicen que soy yo?" Pedro le respondió: "Tú eres el Mesías". Y él les ordenó que no se lo dijeran a nadie.
Luego se puso a explicarles que era necesario que el Hijo del hombre padeciera mucho, que fuera rechazado por los ancianos, los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, que fuera entregado a la muerte y resucitara al tercer día.
Todo esto lo dijo con entera claridad. Entonces Pedro se lo llevó aparte y trataba de disuadirlo.
Jesús se volvió, y mirando a sus discípulos, reprendió a Pedro con estas palabras: "¡Apártate de mí, Satanás! Porque tú no juzgas según Dios, sino según los hombres".
Después llamó a la multitud y a sus discípulos, y les dijo: "El que quiera venir conmigo, que renuncie a sí mismo, que cargue con su cruz y que me siga. Pues el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; pero el que pierda su vida por mí y por el Evangelio, la salvará".

Fr. Mike Joly to lead a dynamic evening filled with music and the workings of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Fr. Mike has been totally blind since age six. He is a singer/song writer, a dynamic motivational speaker/retreat director, and is
bringing us his newest Nashville Christian record, “Contest of Strength.”
Everyone from middle school through the most senior among us will receive great things from the Lord.

Ministry in Need Some ministries require a presence on the altar, while others are behind the scenes. This much respected ministry needs your help. Our white cloths used in every Mass to clean vessels containing the Precious Blood require washing under special instructions, according to church guidelines. The Men’s Club is a service organization of about 25 members that depends
wholly on donations and volunteer labor to finance and complete jobs such as
painting, fencing, replacing equipment, maintaining the parish hall and other
minor repair and construction projects for the church and school. /
