Japanese Christians,Mk Editor : There is at present a re-

ligious work among the Japanese resi-dent in Honolulu that is one of the mostremarkable developments of Christianmissions ever known in this old missionfield. Simultaneously with the arrivalof the Japanese immigrants here, Chris-tian people have been at work trying tobring them under the" influence of Chris-tian truth. With the opening of QueenEmma Hall as a center of Evangelisticwork, a new impetus was given to thiswork among the Japanese. The lightof Christian truth has gradually revealedthe glory of the life offered to manthrough Jesus Christ. But there hasbeen a rapid culmination of personal in-terest in the spirit and aims of Christianlife since the arrival of Rev. Mr. Miyama.A man of rare natural abilities, of in-tense personal devotedness, convertedin San Francisco about ten years ago,he has come to be a power for righteous-ness among the increasing numbers ofhis countrymen in this city. Amongthe Japanese Christians there graduallydeveloped a desire and purpose to dosomething themselves for the Christian-izatio- n

The best that can be had for a Su-preme Court jury room, while the Legis-lature is in session, is a lobby off theLaw Library. It is so exposed thatevery word of a juror, spoken above awhisper, may be heard in the main cor-ridor. "While legislators are cudgelingtheir brains for public improvements, hero is a public want that might receivesome consideration. In 18S0 two termsof Court were put out of house andhome by the Legislature, and the samething may happen again, if not this ses-sion. Should the new Judiciary billpass, tbe Circuit Court of Oahu, holdingjury terms in May and August, wouldalmost certainly be sent ups;airs twiceduring each legislative session. If thechamber of the First Associate Justicecould be changed to an equally agreeablelocation, the room His Honor now occu-pies would make a convenient juryroom, as well as be available, duringhearings at Chambers, for enlarging theCourtroom, by means of folding doors, when a large number of witnesses andothers in attendance uncomfortablycrowded the place.
