Term 3 Week 5
NAPLAN NAPLAN results for Years 3 & 5 were released this week. Results will be sent home with students this week. We will be analysing our results as a school and I will do a presentation at the next P&C meeting in September. When discussing results with your child please remind them that this is a point in time assessment, that there are many facets to their learning and their being that aren’t assessed by a NAPLAN test and that since the test they have already made a lot of improvement. If they’re not happy with their results in a particular area, then that is a motivation to really work hard and make improvement ready for the next time they are assessed. Bus Policy The new Bus Policy went home with students this week. If you are a parent of a child who catches the bus can you please ensure that you read this policy with your child, sign it and return it to school. A Matter of Seconds On Friday, students in Kindergarten, Year 3 and Year 6 will be participating in the Matter of Seconds program. This is a free service from the Life Saving Association and provides students with a basic level of understanding for being safe at the beach and for Year 6 students, CPR as well. Kindergarten 2017 Our first information session for parents of 2017 Kindergarten students will be held on Tuesday 30th August starting at 3:45 pm. If you are aware of anyone in the community with appropriately aged pre-schoolers, could you please pass this information
onto them and ask them to contact the school office with their details. Zone Athletics Carnival Congratulations to each of our students who qualified for the Zone Athletics Carnival. A great achievement! The carnival is being held over two days at the Hunter Athletics Centre in Glendale. Field events plus the 800 metres are on Friday 19th August and the track events will be held on Monday 22nd August. Each day starts at 9:30am. Please ensure that you have sent payments and notes to the office. Karin Hird Principal

Library News This week marks the half way point for the term, it is disappearing very quickly! Premier’s Reading Challenge records need to be entered online by the end of this week. I have entered a number of students already, if you need my assistance, please let me know. Next week is Book Week 2016. The theme this year is ‘Australia, Story Country’. The students will be participating in some art and craft activities based around the short listed titles. We will hold our dress up parade in
conjunction with our book fair next term. The theme will be the same. A number of overdue notices went out last week. Please return these books ASAP. Remember borrowing is available during 2nd half of lunch if you miss out during your library lesson. Happy reading Mrs Wood

Year 6 Fundraiser
Candle orders for the Year 6 fundraiser are due in by 31st
August. Orders can be made either by filling in an order
form available at the school office or via the AOSA website
at www.aosa.com.au BUT the payment still needs to be
handed in at the school office. Candle orders will be
delivered to the school on 19th September.
Ethics Ethics classes continue to be successful at Bonnells Bay Public. I am pleased to announce that we have Patti and Margaret joining our teaching team in the coming months. Both look forward to engaging in important discussions with the great kids at our school. However, we still need more volunteers, as these teachers can only take on the students already on waiting lists, leaving our already hard working volunteers with two classes each week. If you know anyone suitable for the role, please pass on the details! It only takes a couple of hours a week! As they say, 'many hands make light work!' We are also looking for a new Ethics Coordinator, as my circumstances are changing. The role of a coordinator can be done mostly from home, making it a more flexible position than that of a teacher. The position requires you to liaise with the school, the Ethics teachers, and Primary Ethics. I find it to be a highly rewarding role, and would recommend it to anyone wanting to make a positive impact on the school and local community. For more information, please contact me on 0447771946 or [email protected]. Erin Turriff
