Description:This is the developement of a logo design for a mock company.

date:October 31, 2015

course /instructor:COMM 130, Section 1Cory Kerr

programs:Adobe Illustrator

objectives:Create three completely logos for the same brand.Market research and ask ten people which logo they like most.Use only Illustrator to design the logos.Refine one logo, using color vaiations.

process:I started with making three draft logos on Illustrator that were completely different from each other, then went to Facebook and asked my friends which logo they liked the best. I then took the logo that had the most favorites and refined it, trying it in gray scale and putting it on top of a colored shape I created with the pen tool. I created this logo by creating the peaked lines with the pen tool and adding a text box in the open space my lines left.

Description:This is a business card for a mock company with a new logo.

date:November 7, 2015

course /instructor:COMM 130, Section 1Cory Kerr

programs:Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign

objectives:Use tools in InDesign and Illustrator.Use a new logo to design to create a design layout for a stationery.

process:I created my logo first in Illustrator, outlining a photo of my original sketch with the oval tool. I took the lines that created “thrill.” and put them on one side on my business card. I used the same lines for “thrill.” and used it as a pattern for the backside of my business card, turning them, shrinking or enlarging them, and setting them to different levels of opacity.

Description:This is a full bleed charity event ad, created on Microsoft Word.

date:October 10, 2015

course /instructor:COMM 130, Section 1Cory Kerr

programs:Microsoft Word

objectives:Create a full-bleed design for an event ad.Scan a high quaity image to put in the layout.Use only Microsoft Word to design the layout.

process:I first scanned an image of a page from “Olivia” by Ian Falconer. I used this as the background for my ad and added four text boxes for each section of text. To make some of the text red, I color sampled from Olivia’s dress. For my title, I also color sampled from the shadows in the image and change the opacity to lighten it.

Description:This is a montage created with three separate images.

date:October 24, 2015

course /instructor:COMM 130, Section 1Cory Kerr

programs:Adobe Photoshop

objectives:Create a montage in Photoshop with two or more images.Use a mask and apply a filter to one of the images.Unify the layout with a consistent theme and spiritual message.

process:I started out with the image of the northern lights as my background, cropping out a lot of the mountains at the bottom and empty space to the right. I then put a layer on top with an image of sand dunes and took out the background of that image with the brush tool. I had to play with the exposure of the dunes to make them seem a part of my background. I also ended up adding two layers of the same image of a nighttime sky, each on different side of the image to add more stars to the sky in my background. I applied two layers of text with the overlay filter and two gradients with different shades of blue.

Description:This is a design created in Photoshop with a clipped image, clear color scheme, and color swatch indicating the colors used.

date:December 5, 2015

course /instructor:COMM 130, Section 1Cory Kerr

programs:Adobe Photoshop

objectives:Take a quality photo to apply to the design.Use a speciific color scheme ad add color swatches to the design.Use non-destructive editing to adjust levels, vibrance, and sharpness in different layers.

process:First, I took a picture with my roommate holding my cellphone. I edited this on Photoshop, changing the color of my phone case to green. I cut out the shape of her hands with the pen tool and put shapes behind it, following the tetradic color scheme I had decided on. I was careful to place the circles in a way that could create flow and balance, while still leaving room for me to put my color swatches at the bottom.
