Business CardDescription:

A business card of a stationery company named “Jim’s Stationery” Date: November 7, 2015

Course Name: Visual Communication Section 4 Course Instructor: Ben Pingel

Program: Adobe Illustrater and Adobe Indesign

Objective:

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign. Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Combine what have been taught about Illustrator to design a 3.5 x 2 business card.

Proces:

I created the logo first with illustrator. It began by the name and the simple position. I choose the color scheme composed of orange, red, and green. I tried to make sure that this logo fit with the company and has its own uniqueness by chaning the “i” of Jim and Stationery to a pencil. I then spent a lot of time using watermark type of skill to create faded stationery to put on the business card.

Course Name: Visual Communication Section 4 Course Instructor: Ben Pingel

Objective:

Use a scanned high quality picture to create an event flier. With Microsoft Word and itself only, work with differnt functions in order to design a high quality flier in promotion of a certain event.

Proces:

Microsoft Word, color scheme: Triadic. The whole design focuses on the bright color and medium contrast to convey the lightness and burdenless message. Throughout the process of emphasizing the picture and the color scheme, I have made sure that everything is on the right scale and the picture is not pixelated.

MontageDescription:

An inspirational montage designed by blending 4 pictures together and working with typography. Date: October 24, 2015

Course Name: Visual Communication Section 4 Course Instructor: Ben Pingel

Program: Adobe Photoshop

Objective:

Learn to use the blending functions in Adobe Photoshop to combine at least two images thus creating a gospel related flier. Learn how to use the masking function in Photoshop.

Proces:

It was completely done by photoshop. I began by blending the field with mountains along the Utah lake. I used the selection tool so that I can keep part of the sprinkling wheel intact. In addition, I used the sharpening tool to make the wheel clearer. Then I put in the two missionaries into the field. I blended both of them separately into the field using several blending tools. After choosing the text that matches with the image, I tried several different fonts and different filters/colors with the text. Lastly, I blended in the wooden texture to the background and changed its opacity to about 25% so that it doesn’t affect the color of the sky.

BrochureDescription:

A brochure with three folds. Date: December 5, 2015

Course Name: Visual Communication Section 4 Course Instructor: Ben Pingel

Program: Adobe Indesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator

Objective:

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate at least four quality images, not including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign. Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs.

Proces:

I used illustrator to create the logo first, then used Indesign to create the rest of the brochure. The pictures in the brochure are first processed with photoshop. I used photoshop to take off the background of the pictures. In addition, I also use wrap text to align the text and the pictures on my brochure.

FlierDescription:

This flier is design to raise the awareness for the upcoming graduate leadership conference on campus. Date: October 3, 2015

Course Name: Visual Communication Section 4 Course Instructor: Ben Pingel

Program: Adobe Indesign

Objective:

Use given material to create and enhance the flier project that invite all who interested in leadership training to attend this conference. Focus on the basic functions of Adobe Indesign and use solely with Indesign to create a attractive, attention-getting flier.

Proces:

I used Adobe InDesign program to create this flier. In laying out this design, I make sure that all the elements are nicely aligned. Colors are simple, but with its repetition and rhythm, it is able to bring out the professionalism of this event.

Letter HeadDescription:

A business card of a stationery company named “Jim’s Stationery” Date: November 7, 2015

Course Name: Visual Communication Section 4 Course Instructor: Ben Pingel

Program: Adobe Illustrater and Adobe Indesign

Objective:

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign. Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Combine what have been taught about Illustrator to design a 3.5 x 2 business card. Based on the business card designed, create a consistant letter head.

Proces:

Because of the logo I have created, I then moved on to create this business card in Adobe Indesign. I used the skill of repetition on the shapes on the right side as well as the color of it. I also keep the font consistant on the information as well.

Photo DesignDescription:

Present photography and editing skills through combining color scheme and layout into a poster. Date: October 17, 2015

Course Name: Visual Communication Section 4 Course Instructor: Ben Pingel

Program: Adobe Indesign and Adobe Photoshop

Objective:

Learn to use the basic photoshooting skills to obtain high quality picture. Then, edit the picture in Adobe Photoshop as to fit it to the new poster.

Proces:

I started off taking 6 pictures and edited them to their best viewing conditions, then chose the one that fits the draft idea that I have in mind. I found a really good quote on line from the movie Monster Inc. I then decided to use this picture that I took and put in the quote. The entire editing process was done by the Adobe Photoshop program. Because of the colors of the picture, I decided to use the color scheme Tetradic with gold, indigo, lime, and violet. I then managed to make the best use of the negative space that I have on the design.

LogoDescription:

Logo that I have creating using my own name. Date: October 31, 2015

Course Name: Visual Communication Section 4 Course Instructor: Ben Pingel

Program: Adobe Illustrator

Objective:

Learn how to use Adobe Illustrator to create a brand logo without using any images or preexisted brands names. Use approriate color scheme to create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience.

Proces:

As soon as I learned about this project, one strong design came to my mind! “I want to put my Chinese name into the design!” I tried a few ways of doing it but just can’t seem to find the right way to put it. After all, Chinese characters seem to have a whole different typography system. Adobe illustrator in so way is actually really similar to Ps. But I really like the “create outline” function. It allows me to stretch the letters and characters, which is really fun.

Web PageDescription:

A webpage design to showcase a logo that I have designed. Date: November 21, 2015

Course Name: Visual Communication Section 4 Course Instructor: Ben Pingel

Program: HTML, CSS, Photoshop, N++, and w3school.com

Objective:

Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Proces:

I first resize my logo to fit the requirement, then linked it into the HTML N++ program. In the program, I designed the background to reflect the theme of my logo “stationery”. I made sure that in the HTML everything is well indented and can be corrected afterward.
