  • BrochurePrograms Used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator.

Description: Full-color, folding brochure to help promote the company product, service or location. The purpose the brochure may be informational or advertising. You may choose ANY topic. Make this something you enjoy.

Objectives:Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images, not including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process:I started my project by choosing a theme and business that I would like to represent. I chose a travel brochure to Kyoto City because I had been there and had a lot of photos to choose from. I sifted through the photos to find the right ones for the brochure and coordinated them with eachother by color shape and contrast. I created an outline for the layout and then placed thw photos and text. I then created a logo and wrapped the text around one of the photos.

  • MontagePrograms Used:Adobe Photoshop.

Description: Creating a spiritual poster montage using images and type. Using a scripture, a quote, a thought, whatever you choose, but it must be spiritual in nature. Choose two or more images. You may use own photos or gather some from the internet since students are allowed rights to use Internet im-ages as long as it is for a school project only. Create this montage by using a layer mask to blend images, just as you did in the activity this week. Remember that montages have intermingled pixels and no hard edges.

Objectives:Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flowUnify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual messageLearn to blend two or more images together gradually, use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the imageDemonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elementsApply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice)Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size. Theme word(s)Select good quality images

Process:I chose two images to blend together and make them look like they are one. I placed one photo on top of the other using masks and then blended the edges so that you can not tell where one photo ends and the other begins. I also added some lyrics from a song to help illustrate the theme of the montage.

  • FlierPrograms Used: Adobe InDesign.

Description:Your employer asks you to create a news flier in InDesign. She gives you the information, a logo, and one image to use. She asks you to create a new layout that will be attractive and more inviting to read.

Objectives:Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography, and Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact

Process:I first created severa sketches for possible layout ideas and then chose my favorite one. I drew the layout, and then added the photo. I changed the cropping of the photo for each placement so that it would emphasize different parts. I worked on alignment and presentation until I was happy with the design as a whole.

  • LogosPrograms Used: Adobe Illustrator

Description:Design three different logos to represent a brand. One with only type, one two others will varried design and using different color schemes. These are three logos that will be used for a company that sells journals and memory keeping supplies. These logos will be used in print as well as online for a website and a blog.

Objectives:Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)Gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most to them.

Process:I started by visualizing what the logo should represent. I did a lot of sketches and then I looked up photos online that could help me to visualize the shapes and design that I would be creating. I knew I wanted a journal in my design, so I looked at a lot of pictures of books. I also looked at a lot of color schemes to find some that I thought would be right for these logos. I did use a photo to trace the shape of the end of the book for Logo #2, but for the last one I did that one without tracing. I spent a lot of time working with fonts to get to logos each to look professional and fit the project goal.

  • Event AdPrograms Used: Microsoft Word.

Description:You have been asked to design a color flier to promote an event. The budget is tight, and your boss doesnt want to pay an outside firm. The only computer software at your disposal is Microsoft Word. Use a scanned image and an appropriate color scheme to create an event ad to promote a fundraiser that targets a specific audience.

Objectives:Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)Find, scan and import a high-quality image.Create a full-bleed design.Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience.Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process:This art show was directed toward a community with families and children who are interested in art and may want to show some of their own pieces or see some of the local artist work. I used a split complimentary color scheme with Red, Teal, and Orange. I chose this color scheme because I wanted something that would be childlike and fun, and somewhat resemble the primary colors without looking too simple.I scanned an image from the Ensign and selected the part that I wanted to use on this ad. I used text to emphasise the message of the event and the event details. I created alignment with the image for visual flow.

  • Photo DesignPrograms Used: Adobe Photoshop.

Description:Create a full-bleed, 8.5 by 11, photodesign project that includes an original, new quality image, a consistent color scheme based on that image, some text, and a few design elements.

Objectives:Learn basic photography skills.Choose a color scheme and take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout design.Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.

Process: The first thing I did was brainstorm about the ideas for this project. I decided to use a photo of my daughter and make a cute valentine message. I used some cardboard hearts to tape to a wall and then had my daughter stand in front of the wall as if she was blowing those hearts as kisses. The photo was difficult to capture the right image, but I learned a lot about how to set up a photo. I drew some sketches of the layout I would use, and then started designing in Photoshop. I touched up the photo and then selectedthe parts of the photo I wanted for this project.. I then drew the layout and placed the text to go along with the theme of the project.

Description: This is my Web Page for project 7. My web site is created for a business called Brown Paper Journal. This is a web site that offers ideas and solutions to people who are interested in journaling projects and want to get some new ideas. I created the logo to show a fun and creative feel for the company.

Objectives:Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is 300 500 pixels.Write content to describe the process of creating logo and how it appeals to target audience. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Include all required tags Doctype, html, head, title, meta charset, body, h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, br, and a link to blog.Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. Customize the CSS to format the HTML to complement the logo design. Change at least the following: The h1 text color & h1 background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the background color, font families and add at least one css comment.Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.Open the HTML page in a web browser and capture a quality screen shot for printing.

Process:I created the logo in Adobe Illustrator using mainly the pen tool. The book was traced from a photo of an open book, and the hearts were drawn with the pen tool as well. The type for the logo needed to be matched with the flow of the book pages, so it was placed on a curve to keep the flow.
