P90X: Prayer, Ninety Times. (prepar ing BEFORE we start the race)

INTRODUCTION

“P90X: Prayer, Ninety Times” is a 90-day prayer initiative designed to help the people of Cornerstone prepare their hearts for the upcoming Capital Campaign in fall 2012. This prayer guide contains 30 simple daily prayer outlines to be cycled through three times, for a total of 90-days of focused prayer. “P90X” will begin on July 9 and end on October 6, 2012. Each daily prayer outline features the following 5 aspects:

Drawing Near to God: A brief opening prayer, exercise, meditation or psalm for approaching God’s presence.

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others: A space to pray for your needs and those of others in your own words.

Prayer for Cornerstone: Prayers customized for Cornerstone, with special emphasis on preparing our hearts for the upcoming Capital Campaign, building project, and the “Cornerstone Centre” era of ministry.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom Mission: Short prayers for participating in God’s kingdom mission drawn from various scriptural, traditional, and contemporary sources.

The Lord’s Prayer: This section rotates between three phrasings of the model prayer Jesus taught us. Two contemporary paraphrases are included to help us avoid auto-pilot recitation and meditate more deeply on the meaning of the prayer.

Each daily prayer time should take between 5-10 minutes, depending on how long you spend on the “Prayer for Personal Needs and Others” section. You are certainly encouraged to use the “P90X” prayer structure as a springboard into more extended times of prayer. However, the simple structure also provides an accessible way of having a brief but meaningful time of prayer on those busy days when it would otherwise be easy for us to skip praying altogether.

Apart from the “Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others” section, this book consists mostly of pre-written prayers. More and more believers today are finding that praying well-worded pre-written prayers, far from being restricting, actually expands our prayer vocabulary and greatly enriches our prayer life when combined with prayers we offer in our own words. The pre-written prayers used in “P90X” come from different sources. Some are straight from the Bible. Others are from various Christian leaders and traditions, ranging from ancient to contemporary. Still others are from prayer books, both classic and modern. There are also a number of prayers that have been written by folks from Cornerstone especially for this initiative.

Here are a few basic tips for using this prayer guide:

Set a time: It’s best to set a daily time for praying through the “P90X” guide. Whatever time you choose, be intentional about keeping it. That’s usually how our intentions to pray turn into actual praying.

Pray aloud: Praying aloud helps many people to pray more attentively. If praying aloud isn’t possible, an alternative is to try silently “mouthing” the prayers. The point is to pray with your heart and mind truly engaged, so do whatever works for you.

Pray together: When possible, do your “P90X” prayers together with others—your spouse, a friend from church, your small group, etc. Simply take turns saying the different prayers aloud. Even if you’re praying these prayers by yourself, remember that you’re not really praying alone. Lots of Cornerstone folks will be praying the very same prayers on any given day!

Drawing Near to GodLord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought me safely to this day: Preserve me with your mighty power, that I may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all I do direct me to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.

– Adapted from The Divine Hours: Prayers for the Summertime

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneFather in heaven, how can we praise you enough for all you’ve done to bring us this far in the journey toward a new facility? You’ve done more than we can think, say, or imagine. Remembering your past faithfulness to our church re-news our faith, and gives us confidence to move forward, facing the challenges of the journey before us head-on. We pray that you will continue to captivate us with the vision, mission, and dreams you’ve given us as a local church. Strengthen us to do our part, even as we trust you to do yours. Thank you for all you’ve done, Lord. We trust you for all you’ve yet to do. Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionOh Lord, in this world of confusion, make us a people of clarity; in this world of lies, make us a people of integrity; in this world of greed, make us a people of generosity; in this world of violence, make us a people of peace; in this world of vengeance, make us a people of mercy: in the name of Christ: Amen.

– Kim Fabricus (1948 - )

The Lord’s Prayer (traditional)

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give is this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

P90X: Prayer, Ninety Times. (prepar ing BEFORE we start the race)

July 10 August 9 September 8

Drawing Near to GodFather God, we are a people often addicted to noise and ceaseless activity. In our hustle, bustle, and anxious striving, we overlook your presence. Sometimes in our efforts to make things happen in our own strength, we fail to patiently wait and trust you for what you alone can do. But today, Lord, I choose to slow down. I choose to heed your word in Psalm 46:10 (read the following verse slowly, aloud if possible, and then pause in silent stillness for two or three minutes. After this time of silent stillness, read the verse again, aloud if possible. Repeat this exercise as often as you need to until your spirit is calm and you are centered in the Lord).

Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneDear Lord, we’re grateful for the unity Cornerstone has enjoyed over the years as a congregation. We pray that you will continue to safeguard our unity as a church throughout the journey of the Capital Campaign and building project that is ahead of us. Help us be diligent to put on your armour daily, and stand firm against any enemy schemes or attacks designed to divide and conquer us (see Ephesians 6:10-20). As your kingdom advances, we know that the enemy is enraged. We now bring the full work of the Lord Jesus Christ, and his full authority against the devil’s schemes, and declare that, “The battle belongs to the Lord!” Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionOh God, when I have food, help me to remember the hungry; When I have work, help me to remember the jobless; When I have a warm home, help me to remember the homeless; When I am without pain, help me to remember those who suffer; And remembering, help me to destroy my complacency and stir up my compassion. Make me concerned enough to help by word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted.

– Samuel F. Pugh (1928-2007)

The Lord’s Prayer (Dallas Willard’s paraphrase)

Dear Father always near us, may your name be treasured and loved, may your rule be completed in us- may your will be done here on earth in just the way it is done in heaven. Give us today the things we need today, and forgive us our sins and impositions on you as we are forgiving all who in any way offend us. Please don’t put us through trials, but deliver us from everything bad. Because you are the one in charge, and you have all the power, and the glory too is all yours-forever- which is just the way we want it.

Drawing Near to GodIf the LORD had not been on our side; let Israel now say; If the LORD had not been on our side, when enemies rose up against us; Then would they have swallowed us up alive in their fierce anger toward us; Then would the waters have overwhelmed us and the torrent gone over us; Then would the raging waters have gone right over us. Blessed be the LORD! He has not given us over to be prey for their teeth. We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowler; the snare is broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.

– Psalm 124

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneLord God, we pray that you will continue to prepare Cornerstone for the journey ahead—the fall Capital Campaign, the construction of the building, and for the daily ministry and operations once we’ve moved in. There are so many things to consider, Lord, so many things to plan and prepare for. Today, I want to especially ask your blessings on Cornerstone’s leaders as they seek to discern, along with the whole congregation, the way you want us to go (pray in your own words for each group listed below):

• I lift up prayers now for the Staff...

• I lift up prayers now for the Board...

• I lift up prayers now for the Building Advisory Committee...

• I lift up prayers now for the many User Groups giving input as to how to best organize and use the space in the new facility...

• I lift up prayers now for the whole congregation, because each one of us can be a leader in one way or another, leading others in the Lord’s ways...

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionMay the strength of God pilot me, the power of God uphold me, the wisdom of God guide me. May the eye of God look before me, the ear of God hear me, the word of God speak for me. May the hand of God protect me, the way of God lie before me, the shield of God defend me, the host of God save me. May Christ shield me today. Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit, Christ when I stand, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me. Amen.

– Prayer of St. Patrick

The Lord’s Prayer (Brian McLaren’s paraphrase)

Our Father, above us and all around us, May your unspeakable Name be revered. Here to earth, may your kingdom come. Here on earth, may your will be done as it is in heaven. Give us today our bread for today. And forgive us our wrongs as we forgive those who wrong us. Lead us away from the time of trial. But liberate us from the evil. For the kingdom is yours and yours alone, And the power is yours and yours alone, And the glory is yours and yours alone. Amen.

P90X: Prayer, Ninety Times. (prepar ing BEFORE we start the race)

July 12 August 11 September 10

Drawing Near to GodO Lord my God. Form me more fully into your likeness. Use the circumstances and interactions of this day to form your will in me. From the frustrations of this day form peace. From the joys of this day form strength. From the struggles of this day form courage. From the beauties of this day, form love. In the name of Jesus Christ who is all peace and strength and courage and love. Amen.

– Richard Foster, Prayers from the Heart

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneI kneel before you Father (if possible, actually kneel here). From you every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of your glorious riches you may strengthen us at Cornerstone with power through your Spirit in our inner being, so that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith. And I pray that we, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all of your people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that we may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to you who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to your power that is at work within us, to you be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.

– Based on Ephesians 3:14-20

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionDear Heavenly Father, while I am on this journey through life, I pray that I may always listen for your voice, whether it is for praise or discipline. Please, please may I always know your presence, especially if I am to journey through life’s valleys. When I am weak fill me with your strength, and help me to love like you love, even when it hurts. May nothing matter to me more than becoming the person you want me to be. Amen.

– Dianne Parsons (1949- )

Drawing Near to GodMy Confession: Almighty God, my heavenly Father: I have sinned against you, through my own fault, in thought, and word, and deed, in what I have done and in what I have left undone (take time here to acknowledge specific sins). For the sake of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, forgive me for all my offenses; and grant that I may serve you in newness of life, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

God’s Response: “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is my love for those who fear me; as far as the east is from the west, so far have I removed your transgressions from you.”

– Adapted from Psalm 103:11-12

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneWe pray that you will enable us at Cornerstone to bear fruit for your kingdom, Lord Jesus, not only once Cornerstone Centre has been built, but now. You have said that if we remain in you we will bear much fruit, but apart from you, we can do nothing. So above all, Lord, we pray that throughout the challenging journey ahead of planning, fundrais-ing, and community ministry, you will help us to stay close to you. Help us to keep in step with your Spirit, day by day, moment by moment. Help us to grow as a people of prayer. Teach us what it means to listen to the “still small” voice of your Spirit in the midst of this noisy world. Help us to walk so closely with you, Jesus, that when people see us, they see you. Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom Mission (praying with Victor Jack)

Lord God, fill us with your Holy Spirit, baptise us in your love and send us in your strength to minister Christ to those we meet. Give us great confidence in the message of the gospel, open doors of opportunity for us and enable us with courage and sensitivity to speak of Jesus. Heavenly Father, we long that the prayer of Jesus may be answered in our lives; ‘As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’ Send us afresh with his sense of commission and his heart of compassion. Use us, even today, to bring someone to you. Amen.

– Victor Jack (1937- )

P90X: Prayer, Ninety Times. (prepar ing BEFORE we start the race)

July 14 August 13 September 12

Drawing Near to GodStand with reverence before the All-Seeing God and say: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” Having invoked the Holy Trinity, keep silence for a little while, so that your thoughts and feelings may be freed from worldly cares. Then pray the rest of today’s prayers without haste, and with your whole heart.

– The Missio Dei Breviary (http://www.missio-dei.com/breviary/)

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneFather, you have a special heart for the poor of this world. Thank you for giving us at Corner-stone an opportunity to be your hands and feet to the poor. We think of our Global Missions partners in Honduras, Nicaragua and Mexico, and pray for them now. We’ve received as much from them as they have from us. We pray too that you will guide us to be more ac-tive in addressing the realities of material poverty here at home. Though material poverty may not be as apparent here, it is real. Open our eyes, Lord, and our hearts, and our hands, and our wallets to help. And teach us to help the poor in ways that do not hurt them. We think of the Rossi family’s Five with Drive ministry (http://www.5wd.ca/) and the opportunities we have to partner with them as they serve the underprivileged of our community. Empower and embolden them, and all of us, to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those less fortunate. Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionHeavenly Father, give me a heart like the heart of Jesus, a heart more ready to minister than to be ministered to, a heart moved by compassion towards the weak and the oppressed, a heart set upon the coming of Your Kingdom in the world. I pray [now] for all those sorts and conditions of [persons] to whom Jesus gave special thought and care;

For those lacking food or drink or raiment (clothing), For the sick and all who are wasted by disease, For the blind, For the maimed and lame, For lepers, For prisoners, For those oppressed by an injustice, For the lost sheep of our human society, For fallen women, For all lonely strangers within our gates, For the worried and anxious, For those who are living faithful lives in obscurity, For those who are fighting bravely in unpopular causes, For all who are laboring diligently in Your vineyard.

Grant, O Father, that Your loving kindness in causing my own lines to fall in pleasant places may not make me less sensitive to the needs of others less privileged, but rather more incline me to lay their burdens upon my own heart. And if any adversity should befall myself, then let me not brood upon my own sorrows, as if I alone in the world were suffering, but rather let me busy myself in the compassionate service of all who need my help. Thus let the power of my Lord Christ be strong within me and His peace invade my spirit. Amen.

– John Baillie (1886-1960)

The Lord’s Prayer (Brian McLaren’s paraphrase)

Our Father, above us and all around us, May your unspeakable Name be revered. Here to earth, may your kingdom come. Here on earth, may your will be done as it is in heaven. Drawing Near to GodAfter a time of silent reflection, proclaim: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

– Jesus (Matthew 22:37-40)

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneGod, open my eyes to the needs of the elderly in my community. Open my eyes to see their strengths and their giftedness, too. Help me to see that, regardless of age, we are all alike in our desire to be included, to be loved, and to be able to give love. Give Cornerstone a vision for how to best support as well as learn from the elderly who live in our community. Deliver us from adopting cultural ideas that would devalue the elderly. Instead, make Cornerstone a people who will welcome diversity – a mosaic of diverse ages, backgrounds and life stories – knitted together in Christ by your re-creative and redeeming work. May Cornerstone Centre be a place where the elderly are welcomed, respect-ed, supported, loved, served, and empowered.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionOur heavenly Father, we commend to your mercy those for whom life does not spell freedom: prisoners of conscience, the homeless and the handicapped, the sick in body and mind, the elderly who are confined to their homes, those who are enslaved by their passions, and those who are addicted to drugs. Grant that, whatever their outward circumstances, they may find inward freedom, through him who proclaimed release to captives, Jesus Christ our Savior.

– John Stott (1921- 2011)

The Lord’s Prayer (traditional)

July 16 August 15 September 14

Drawing Near to GodOur ever-present Father, I pledged to surrender my life to you, but I confess that most of the moments that make up my actual life are not surrendered to you. Help me this day to remember you, and offer myself up to you in simple ways, in this moment, and in every moment.

– Greg Boyd (1957- )

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneGod, just as you call us by name, help all of us at Cornerstone to remember the names of people we encounter in our daily activities. Remind us to show appreciation to the waiters, cashiers and people in the service industry as we pick up our meals, coffee or groceries. Inspire us to be cooperative, generous and friendly to our neighbours as we walk in and out of our homes today. Help us to be aware of opportunities to connect with them, make space for them, engage and serve with them and for them. Before I rush into the house and close the front door behind me, remind me that you are present in my neigh-bourhood and you are already at work there to restore all things for your glory. How can I be part of what you are doing in my neighbourhood? Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening... (1 Samuel 3:10).

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionGracious and Holy Father, give us wisdom to perceive You, intelligence to understand You, diligence to seek You, patience to wait for You, eyes to behold You, hearts to meditate upon You, and a life to proclaim You, through the power of the Holy Spirit of Christ our Lord.

– St. Benedict of Nursia (480-547)

The Lord’s Prayer (Dallas Willard’s paraphrase)

Dear Father always near us, may your name be treasured and loved, may your rule be completed in us- may your will be done here on earth in just the way it is done in heaven. Prayer for CornerstoneLet your continual mercy, O Lord, cleanse and defend your Church; and, because it cannot continue in safety without your help, protect and govern it always by your goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

– The Divine Hours: Prayers for the Summertime

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionWith Jesus, we proclaim:

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

Father, anoint us with your Spirit. As you sent your Son, your Son has sent us; may we embody the presence of your Son in the world, and in our neighbor-hood. Empower us to live and proclaim your good news in our neighborhood, and in the world.

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneLord, I pray for Cornerstone’s relationship with Greensborough Public School. Thank you for the positive relationship that we’ve built over the years with the students, teachers and staff of this school, which is located right in the middle of the neighbourhood where Cornerstone Centre will one day be built. I pray that as a new principal comes into the school this September, that he will be open to continuing this relationship with Cornerstone. We pray that you will nurture this relationship and protect it against satan’s ploys to disrupt and derail it. We pray for the core leadership team of the Cornerstone YouthQuest Basketball program at the school – Pastor Kevin, Ben Chan, Calvin Lee, Evan Ip, Junior Colquhoun, Shaun Chong & Colin Ng. Grant them love, wisdom and discernment as they build into the lives of these Greensborough kids for your glory. As a new School Council is elected this fall, we pray that you will again reserve a seat for Cornerstone at this table. Help our YouthQuest Bas-ketball leaders to conduct themselves in such a way that others may see their good deeds and praise you, our Father in Heaven (Matthew 5:13-16). Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionFather, you know and I know I can’t do anything — so show me what you are doing and draw me into that.

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneLord, I pray for an outpouring of your Spirit upon Cornerstone. I’m reminded that this Capital Campaign isn’t ultimately about constructing a building or giving away our money. You aren’t calling us to give our lives to build a church. You are calling us to give our lives to be the Church. So first things first: Lord, first let me give myself more fully to you. Then, let my decisions grow out of what you call me to be and to do. I pray that what captures your heart will also capture mine. How can I give myself more fully to you? What are you calling me to be? What do you want to do through me? Lord, help me to be both a hearer and a doer of your word (James 1:22).

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionReflect prayerfully on the following quote: “The main petition in the Lord’s Prayer—‘Thy Kingdom Come’—rules out any idea that the Kingdom of God is a purely heavenly (that is, ‘otherwordly’) reality. … Think of the vision at the end of Revelation. It isn’t about humans being snatched up from earth to heaven. The holy city, new Jerusalem, comes down from heaven to earth. God’s space and ours are finally married, integrated at last.”

– N. T. Wright, The Lord and His Prayer

Drawing Near to GodHow good and pleasant it is when God’s people dwell together in unity!

– Psalm 133:1

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneJesus, you passionately prayed for our unity on the night before you gave up your life for us (John 17:20-23). Lord, I join you in that prayer and ask that you would help us as a church to be one just as you and the Father are one. We’re sorry for any ways in which we’ve talked about others behind their backs, undermined the authority of those in leadership, held grudges against one another, or not stood up for unity in the ways we should have. Forgive us Lord. We confess that this does not set a good example for our children or for unbelievers who look in from the outside. Help us to choose the better way. We stand against the enemy and bring the full work of Christ against all evil forces that seek to divide, derail and destroy us. Empower us to live a life worthy of the calling we have received. Help us to be completely humble and gentle; to be patient and bear with one another in love. And help us to make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:2). The world will know that you are God when we have love for one another and live in unity. May it be so with Cornerstone! Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionLord make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, let me sow pardon. Where there is doubt, let me sow faith. Where there is despair, let me give hope. Where there is darkness, let me give light. Where there is sadness, let me give joy. Grant that I may not try to be comforted, but to comfort; not try to be understood, but to understand; not try to be loved, but to love. Because it is in giving that we receive, in forgiving that we are forgiven, and in dying that we are born to eternal life.

– Francis of Assisi (1182-1226)

The Lord’s Prayer (Brian McLaren’s paraphrase)

Our Father, above us and all around us, May your unspeakable Name be revered. Here to earth, may your kingdom come. Here on earth, may your will be done as it is in heaven. Give us today our bread for today. And forgive us our wrongs as we forgive those who wrong us. Lead us away from the time of trial. But liberate us from the evil. For the kingdom is yours and yours alone, And the power is yours and yours alone, And the glory is yours and yours alone. Amen.

Drawing Near to GodLord, this 90 day journey of prayer is a challenge. I echo the words of the psalmist: “I seek you with my whole heart. Do not let me stray from your commands” (Psalm 119:10). But I also know that seeking you requires intentionality: the effort to make time, to pay attention, to listen, to stay open to your promptings. Such seeking will undoubtedly change me and will redirect me towards your ways and not my own. I want that... but I have so many distractions that scatter me, worries that pull at me, and disappointments that can break me. God, now surrender those to you. I have only one life to live, and I want you to inhabit it. You alone, Lord Jesus, are the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneMay we know you, Lord Jesus, and in knowing you, make you known. Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionThe Blessing Prayer

This is a simple prayer you can offer for anyone and everyone you encounter today—especially for those you have negative feelings towards. Consider writing this prayer down and keeping it in your pocket so you can pray it readily for the remainder of the day:

Lord Jesus, I agree with you that this person has unsurpassable worth, because he/she has been created in your image, and you died for him/her. I now pray your blessing on his/her life in your name. Amen.

– Greg Boyd (1957- )

The Lord’s Prayer (traditional)

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give is this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

July 22 August 21 September 20

Drawing Near to GodHeavenly Father, I come before you acknowledging your holiness. You are awesome and righteous in all your ways; in you, evil cannot abide. I learn in your word that before your people were sent out on great missions you required them to “get right” with you. So I come to you in repentance and humility and ask your Holy Spirit to search me and know me and reveal to me any areas of my life that need to come more in alignment with yours. (Take time to be silent and hear what Jesus might be saying. Name specific things: idolatry, impure thoughts, pride, arrogance, unbelief, greed, etc.). I confess I have not loved you with my whole heart, soul and mind and I have not loved others as myself. Forgive me. I confess I have judged others unfairly in an attempt to make myself look superior. Forgive me. Thank you that as far as the east is from the west, so far have you removed my sins from me (Psalm 103:12). You promised that if I confess my sin you are faithful and just to cleanse me from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). I choose to believe that and ask your Holy Spirit to fill me afresh today to live more fully in you. Amen.

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneJesus, you came to restore a broken world and make the Father’s love known, and you send us out to do the same. Help us to embrace a kingdom mindset as we move forward with our Capital Campaign. Your kingdom is so much more than a “get out of hell free” card; it’s about coming against brokenness wherever we see it: physically, socially, emotionally, environmentally and spiritually. Open our eyes to see and give us courage to act in ways that bring healing and wholeness to our community. Help us to live by kingdom principles of love, sacrifice, honesty, integrity and simplicity instead of society’s mandate of individualism, consumerism, isolation, competition and over-indulgence. Sometimes the choices will be difficult, but you promised that as we seek your kingdom first, all other desires will be met in you as well (Matthew 6:33). So Lord Jesus, as part of your body at Cornerstone, I choose to offer myself in service to your kingdom right now: to walk in step with your will to restore your world through your people—including me! — in your time. Amen!

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionTry this simple prayer practice called “Be a Jesus-Whisperer” today. It comes from the late-great missionary and literacy champion Frank Laubach, who wrote these words:

We [silently] whisper “God” or “Jesus” or “Christ” constantly as we glance at every person near us. We try to see double as Christ does. We see the person as he is, and the person Christ longs to make him. Perhaps there is no finer ministry than just to be in meetings or crowds, whispering “Jesus”, and then helping people wherever you see the opportunity.

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneLord, we have to confess that when we actually stop and soak in all the needs around us – the broken relationships, the job losses, the needs of the home-less, the isolation of new immigrants and elderly, the needs around the globe and so much more – we often want to turn away and not deal with it. There is so much that needs your restoration. Your mission to restore all of creation is so massive. Even if you called our local church, how can we possibly make any difference? How can, I, Lord? Frankly, we’re often like the disciples who looked out into the big crowd of hungry people and said, “Eight months wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite! Send the crowds away. Let them go home and take care of themselves for a while.” Instead, Lord Jesus, shape us—shape me—to be more like the little boy – who saw the need and determined to do what he could – he gave fives loaves of bread and two fish. Lord Jesus, you took that gift, blessed it – and 5,000 people were fed that day—with leftovers! Lord, I want to offer what I have, too, so that you can perform a miracle of provision on behalf of Cornerstone. With your blessing and grace, multiply our gifts and resources to make more of a difference for your kingdom than we ever imagined.

– Based on John 6:1-15 and Matthew 14:13-21

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionSovereign God, everything we have belongs to you. May we use what we have to bless others and woo people into the Kingdom, rather than for our own comfort and ease. Bless us so that we may bless others. If we do not bless others, take our resources from us and give them to those who will bless others. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Drawing Near to GodJesus, I desire to focus more fully on you. And yet, my mind can flit so easily to so many other things: the projects I want to accomplish, the people I want to talk to, the people I wish I didn’t have to talk to. I wonder: Are these things distractions to spiritual concentration, or invitations to see God in the ordinary? I’m not sure. Jesus, I know that you are that Center that knows no distraction. So I offer up my mental fragmentation to you, O Lord my God. May my scat-teredness become your gatheredness. As I’m contemplating a thousand things, Jesus, may I somehow be contemplating you.

Drawing Near to GodOur help is in the name of the LORD; the maker of heaven and earth.

– Psalm 124:8

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneHeavenly Father your word tells us that you have a heart for the poor, the widow, the orphan and the immigrant among us. Help us, Lord, to have eyes to see and a heart to reach out to the marginalized in our community. We begin in prayer, and ask you to help families caught in destructive patterns of addic-tion and abuse. Break the chains of violence and heal hurting hearts. We pray for the disabled, that you would heal their minds and their bodies and protect them from all harm, and flood their caregivers with patience and wisdom. We pray for the newly-immigrated, that you would help them establish new roots in a foreign country and make connections that would eventually lead them to you. We pray that Cornerstone would have a reputation of being a haven for the marginalized. Help us as a church to come outside our comfort zone and think of creative and tangible ways that we can show love to them. We may not have special skills nor even speak the same language; we feel overwhelmed but help us to choose to offer a willing heart to you. Like the five loaves and two fish, take our humble offering and multiply it to lavish your love on the hurting in our midst. May your love be made known in Markham and beyond in and through us. Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionMay God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart. May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace. May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy. And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a differ-ence in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done.

Drawing Near to GodGive ear to my words, O LORD; consider my meditation... for I make my prayer to you.

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneFather, how prone we are to forget the clear instruction of your Word, which says, “The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble con-templation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live” (1 Timothy 2:1-3, MSG). Therefore, Lord, we pray that you help us as the people of Cornerstone to obey your word by regularly blessing and praying for our municipal leaders and city. We do so now:

We ask your blessing upon the Mayor and his family. Also, we pray for our Deputy Mayor, committee chairs and every member of Council, that they will bring strong and principled leadership to this community. Bless their families as they balance their responsibilities between home and public office. We pray that our leaders will be mindful of their integrity, and that they accept their responsibilities with sincerity. May they always realize exactly what it means to be in a position of influence, and may their character and honesty help enhance the vision and future for our community. We ask your protective blessing upon our fire and police forces and their respective chiefs, and all other civil servants who assist in the administration and operation of this community. Grant each of our municipal leaders and public servants a personal revelation of Jesus Christ. Finally, we ask that you would continue to bless Cornerstone with a strong and healthy relationship with all relevant officials in the City of Markham and the Region of York. As we engage in the Cornerstone Centre project and require their approvals and seek their partnership in various programs, we pray that you will grant us much favour with them. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionAlmighty God, by your grace you have given us new life in Jesus Christ. By your Spirit you have called us to proclaim his name throughout the world. Awaken in us such a love for you and your work that we may so boldly proclaim Jesus Christ in word and deed that all people may come to know him as Savior and follow him as Lord, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Prayer for CornerstoneA Prayer for Spiritual Leaders

I pray, dear God, for our spiritual leaders. Increase in them the gift of faith that they might preach the Word of God

frailty. Grow in them the fruit of peace that they might be free of manipulation. Grow in them the fruit of love that they might always serve out of a divine wellspring.

I plead, gracious Father, for our spiritual leaders. Protect them from the attacks of the evil one. Protect them from the distractions that render their work ineffective. Protect them from the criticism of well-meaning (and not-so-well-mean-

All these things I ask in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Drawing Near to GodDear God, holy and victorious Trinity, you alone are worthy of all my worship, my heart’s devotion, all my praise, all my trust and all the glory of my life. I love you, worship you, trust you. I give myself over to you in my heart’s search for life. You alone are Life, and you have become my life. I renounce all other gods, all idols, and I give you the place in my heart and in my life that you truly deserve...

– From “Daily Prayer” by John Eldredge

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneVictorious Jesus, I come to you with thanksgiving for the triumph you achieved at the cross and the empty tomb. You defeated death in order to give me new life. Hallelujah, what a Saviour! Your word says that my life is now hidden in you (Colossians 3:3); I am one spirit with you and share in your resurrection power. By that authority alone I bring the fullness of your work – cross, resurrection and ascension – against satan and his kingdom and every foul and unclean spirit that is raised against the work that you are doing in Cornerstone. (With authority): I bring the work of the Lord Jesus Christ against the spirit of disunity, division, discord and strife, against the spirit of accusation, against the spirit of confusion, against the spirit of despair and discouragement, and against all other forms of spiritual warfare coming against us (call by name any other dark spirit you sense or know of). I banish them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Standing in agreement with you, Jesus, I loose the power of your Holy Spirit to seal and safeguard us as we continue to move forward toward the Capital Campaign and construction. If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31). No one! No weapon formed against us will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). I choose to believe and stand on your word. Be glorified in our church, O Lord. Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionFather, by your Spirit bring in your kingdom. Send us to bring help to the poor and freedom to the oppressed. Send us to tell the world the good news of your healing love. Send us to those who mourn, to bring joy and gladness instead of grief. Send us to proclaim that the time is here for you to save your people. Use us, unworthy as we are, to bring in your kingdom of mercy, justice, love, and peace. Empower us by your Spirit and unite us in your Son, that all our joy and delight may be to serve you, now and forever. Amen.

Give is this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Drawing Near to GodSeek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually.

– Psalm 105:4

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneO Father of mercies and God of all comfort, our only help in time of need:

Minister to those among our church family who are suffering from illness (name any that come to mind).Sustain and comfort them, and bring your healing in your time and in your way. Keep their spirits high even though sickness has made them feel low. Relieve the pain and suffering. Provide for every need. Give wisdom to their health care workers, that they may receive the best and most effective treatment possible. Give strength and peace to the family members who care for and worry about them. Show each of us how we, as members of this church body, can lighten their burdens and relieve their suffering through prayer, words of encouragement, and practical acts of service. We think also of those in our church who have family members or friends outside of Cornerstone that are ill (name any that come to mind).Bring comfort, grace, strength, wisdom, healing, provision, and most of all, the light of your salvation. Make us instruments of your healing, Lord Jesus.

Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionO God of all the nations of the earth: Remember the multitudes who have been created in your image but have not known the redeeming work of our Savior Jesus Christ; and grant that, by the prayers and labors of your holy Church, they may be brought to know and worship you as you have been revealed in your Son; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

August 1 August 31 September 30

Drawing Near to GodUse this time to simply “be still and know that he is God” (Psalm 46:10). Sit in silent, attentive stillness for several minutes, or an even more extended period of time if the Spirit so leads you. Just “be” with God without feeling like you have to use words. This is also a form of prayer.

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneAlmighty God our heavenly Father, you declare your glory and show forth your handiwork in the heavens and in the earth: Deliver us in our various occupations from the service of self alone, that we may do the work you give us to do in truth and beauty and for the common good; for the sake of him who came among us as one who serves, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

– The Book of Common Prayer

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionO God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

– Adapted from Book of Common Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer (Brian McLaren’s paraphrase)

Our Father, above us and all around us, May your unspeakable Name be revered. Here to earth, may your kingdom come. Here on earth, may your will be done as it is in heaven. Give us today our bread for today. And forgive us our wrongs as we forgive those who wrong us. Lead us away from the time of trial. But liberate us from the evil. For the kingdom is yours and yours alone, And the power is yours and yours alone, And the glory is yours and yours alone. Amen.

Drawing Near to GodLet the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

– Psalm 19:14

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneDear God, as your chosen people, holy and dearly loved, help us to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Enable us to bear with each other and forgive one another if any of us has a grievance against another. Help us to forgive as you have forgiven us. And over all these virtues, help us to put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. May the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, since as members of one body you have called us to peace. And help us to always be thankful. Amen.

– Based on Colossians 3:12-15

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionDear Jesus, help us to spread Your fragrance every-where we go. Flood our souls with your spirit and life. Penetrate and possess our whole being so utterly that our lives may only be a radiance of Yours. Shine through us, and be so in us that every soul we come in contact with may feel Your presence in our souls. Let them look up and see no longer us, but only Jesus! Stay with us, and then we shall shine as you shine; so to shine as to be a light to others. The light, O Jesus, will all be from You, none of it will be ours; it will be You shining on others through us. Let us preach You without preaching, not by words but by our example, by the catching force, the sympathetic influence of what we do, the evident fullness of the love our hearts bear to You. Amen.

August 3 September 2 October 2

Drawing Near to GodO God, you are my life, You have breathed into me the breath of life, and I have become a living being (Genesis 2:7). My very existence and being flow from you. In you I live and move and have my being (Acts 17:28). You are the Vine, Lord Jesus, and I am a true branch of yours (John 15:5). Father, you have made me alive with Christ (Ephesians 2:4-5). Jesus has come that I might have life, and have it abun-dantly (John 10:10). Christ is now my life (Colossians 3:4). Dear Father, restore this frail branch in full union with the trunk. Restore my full union with Christ and with you. May I be one with you even as Jesus was one with you (John 10:30, 17:21).

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneDear Jesus, I lift up the marriages of Cornerstone to you. I pray for a hedge of protection around each and every couple. May they be rooted and established in love, both for you and each other. Marriage is hard work, but thank you that you have equipped them with every good thing needed to live out a godly marriage. I pray that they would each tap into that Source more and more, moment by moment. I pray for open, honest communication and willing hearts to give and receive forgiveness. I pray that where hurt, anger, disunity, mistrust or distance has grown that you would break through with healing and full restoration and relight their passion for one another. Teach them how to steadfastly pray for one another, cherish one another and nurture each other’s souls and spiritual gifts. I pray against all forms of spiritual warfare that would threaten to destroy our marriages. I pray specifically against: adultery, pornography, idolatry, divorce, abuse, neglect and resentment (name any other negative influences you think of). I bring the full work of Christ against every divisive attack and pray for continued protection throughout this day. And Father I pray for those in our congregation newly-divorced or seeking spouses. Draw near to them and guard their hearts as they wait on you and seek your will. Help them not to fall into temptation, but help them to fix their eyes on you, Jesus, as the perfect model of trust and obedience. Thank You for hearing my prayer. May we be a church that continues to model loving, successful marriages to our community. Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionChrist, whose insistent call disturbs our settled lives: give us discernment to hear your words, grace to relinquish our tasks, and courage to follow empty-handed wherever you may lead, so that your gospel may reach the ends of the earth. Amen.

August 4 September 3 October 3

Drawing Near to GodIn view of your mercy, Lord, I offer my body to you as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to you. This is my spiritual act of worship. I desire not to be conformed any longer to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of my mind (or if I don’t truly desire that, then help me to do so). Then I will be able to test and approve what your will is—your good, pleasing and perfect will. Amen.

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneHeavenly Father I lift up to you all the families of Cornerstone. Thank you so much for the ways that you have blessed us and provided for our needs according to your love and grace and riches in Jesus. I ask you Father for more of the same. I pray that every family that walks through our doors will be rooted and established in your love (Ephesians 3:17-18). I pray that you would empower parents with wisdom and love; help them to make right choices for their families and model passionate love and service to you, Jesus. Give them patience when they grow weary, support when they are limited, and times of refreshment with each other and you. Help them not to exasperate their children, but to train them up diligently in your ways (Ephesians 6:4; Proverbs 22:6). And I pray that you would protect our children every day and in every way. I pray for their safety and success as they go to school. I pray against bullying, gangs, drugs, sexual im-morality, violence, and any other negative influence that would take our children captive. I bring the full work of Christ against the enemy and every scheme that he would hurl at us to try and rip families apart. May your love and grace and favour ever surround them as a shield (Psalm 5:12). Abba Father, thank you for adopting US into your family! And help us to tangibly reach out to the families in our community the way you first reached out to us. May we be a church that is known for our radical love for the families in our community. Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionLord, our strength and purpose come from you. Direct our steps today, and turn us from the perishable things at which we grasp. Cast your light upon us so that our lives may bear witness to the light of Christ. Amen.

August 5 September 4 October 4

Drawing Near to GodWe come, O Lord, on this day to confess our lack of trust. While we sing of your lordship over all creation, we have too often acted as though you are powerless in the face of today’s events and challenges. Help us to live with confidence in your presence and power today, and in hope for life with you forever. Amen.

– Prayer of Confession adapted from The Worship Sourcebook

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneJesus, you laid out the greatest command to love you, ourselves and each other with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30-31). As king-dom people we want to do just that – but we need your help. There are things in our lives that keep us from being whole and block the flow of your love in us and through us. We pray Lord that you would teach us how to be emotionally and spiritually healthy. Like David, we cry for truth and wisdom in our innermost parts (Psalm 51:6). Empower us Lord and give us courage as we partner with you to heal and teach us. We don’t need to be perfect before we come to you so help us not to hide. Sometimes the truth can be scary or painful, but help us to hold a right picture of you in our minds as we come to you with openness, because YOU are not scary or judgmental in any way. Specifically we pray that you would heal our hearts from

• broken and fragmented relationships • old wounds from disappointments, failures, or abuse • unhealthy patterns learned in our upbringing • unforgiveness • false pictures that we have of you in our heads

Forgive us Lord for all the ways that we have operated outside of your truth. Help us to choose moment by moment to take our thoughts captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) and make them come in line with the way, truth and life of Christ (John 14:6). And we ask Lord that you would draw close to the broken-hearted in our congregation (name them if applicable): those suffering from depression, addiction or loneliness, those who have recently lost jobs or loved ones. Heal their hearts and help us to see them and surround them with gentleness and love. Thank you for hearing our prayer, Lord. We look forward to new levels of healing and wholeness in and through Cornerstone and the surrounding community! Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionLord, grant us the ability to think with your mind, to hear with your ears, to see with your eyes, to speak with your mouth, to walk with your feet, to love with your heart. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Drawing Near to GodMighty God, by your power you raised Jesus Christ to rule over us. We praise you that he puts down tyrannies that threaten to destroy us and unmasks powers that claim our allegiance. We thank you that he alone commands our lives and gives us freedom to love the world. Glory to you for the gift of his life! Glory to you for his saving death! Glory to you for Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our risen Lord, now and forever. Amen.

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneDear Lord, I thank you for the “beautiful feet” of all those in our church who have brought the good news to a needy world (Isaiah 52:7)! I pray specifically today for our Global Missions partnerships in Nicaragua, Mexico, Honduras, Tanzania and China. Thank you for the many years that you have faithfully provided for our mission projects. I pray that we would hold the vision of long-term impact ever before us as we pray, plan, support, and execute. I pray for those living in the communities that we partner with around the world – that you would break the chains of brokenness in every way and help them to encounter you, Jesus; help them to see you through us. I pray for Cornerstone people serving you overseas – the Maks and Nancy. I ask for continued protection for them and that you would continue to meet their every need physically, emotionally, relation-ally, financially and spiritually. I pray against all forms of spiritual warfare coming against them and the ministry. Lead them not into temptation but deliver them from all evil, both seen and unseen. I pray for Cornerstone’s Global Missions Planning Team – for unity among the members, for wisdom as they collaborate, that they would be open to the leading of your Spirit as they plan, and that they would fix their eyes on you as they partner with you to advance your kingdom. Thank you for hearing my prayer and I look forward to the exciting things you are going to do in and through our Global Missions ministry! Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionYou bring life where there is death, Lord. We have been wrapped up in sin and death; you have set us free. Fill us with your life-giving Spirit so that we may bring life to places of death. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

P90X: Prayer, Ninety Times. (prepar ing BEFORE we start the race)

August 7 September 6 October 6

Drawing Near to GodLet us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. We praise you, great God, for you are the ruler of the universe and have sent your Son to be King of kings. We rejoice that he has triumphed over all the powers of this world and governs the nations in justice and righteousness. We celebrate his victory in his life, death, resurrection, and ascension to honour and might at your side. By your Spirit, claim our complete loyalty, Establish Christ’s rule in every land and every heart. Accept our homage as we offer our lives in the service of Christ’s kingdom. He is Lord forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for Personal Needs and for Others (see Philippians 4:6-7)

Take some time to pray for your own needs and those of others in your own words. Don’t forget to include prayers of thanksgiving.

Prayer for CornerstoneLord, we pray for the fulfillment of the dream you’ve given us for the Cornerstone Centre. It is truly God-sized, far beyond our own capability to bring into reality. But it’s not beyond your capability. With you, all things are possible. You have so clearly called us to do this, and have affirmed it over and over again, so we are confident that you will bring it to pass. We ask that you would go before us, and make every path clear. Remove every obstacle, every form of opposition that would hinder this dream from becoming reality. Move our hearts to give sacrificially at your leading, so that together we may dig deeper financially than we’ve ever dug before. Deliver us from fear, hesitation, disobedience, and lack of follow-through. Raise up donors outside of Cornerstone to provide for the building project in various ways, whether through financial gifts, or the donations of goods and services. Help us also to find favour with the neighbours who live near the site, City Council and Staff, our architect and construction firm, banks, and also with our grant applications. Bless the Capital Campaign planning team as they develop the plans and strategies for moving us forward in this project at your leading. At the end of the day, it’s all about you, Jesus, and your kingdom. So as we set our sights on the Capital Campaign and the building project ahead, we pray, thy kingdom come, thy will be done. Amen.

Today’s Prayer of Kingdom MissionFather, thank you for the victory you have given us through our Lord Jesus Christ. May we stand firm, unmovable, giving ourselves to the works you’ve prepared for us (see 1 Cor. 15:56-58). May we hope in the resurrection as we suffer all things in this world for the sake of your gospel. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
