    TYPICAL CHARACTERISTICS

CRAFTS AND REVIVALS DISTRICTS - LOCATION MAP

Developed in the early 1800s, this district has slightly lower densi t eshan contemporaneous districts with more single family residences.treet hierarchies and pa erns con t nue those previouslystablished and city blocks are rectangular, but intersec t ng streetrids cause disrup t ons in these street hierarchies and city blockhapes which lead to pocket neighborhoods with so f borders.nterior streets are typically one-way, while larger boulevards serve

mul t ple lanes of tra ffi c and may have a generous tree canopy oreutral ground. Street walls are be er de ned on interior streets

with smaller setbacks and similar building designs than on largertreets with greater setbacks and a variety of building designs.

Residen t al buildings are o f en similar to those found in other olderistricts, but elaborate on these designs with ornate ourishes of

wood detailing such as entablatures, cornices, and balustrades.orches and monumental stairs are integral to mi t gat ng theeal and perceived distances from the street created by setbacksnd raised oor heights. Commercial uses are almost exclusivelyocated on major boulevards, are larger than residen t al stock, use

masonry and glass, and can accommodate more vehicular parking.

    TYPICAL CHARACTERISTICS

    PARKSIDE DISTRICT - LOCATION MAP

purred by the 1884 World Co on Centennial Fair staged on theite of modern day Audubon Park, these areas are of mediumopula t on density with moderate to grand scaled housing on

moderately sized lots. The street grid is well connected to thereater city grid, however the radial streets taper considerably inhese areas crea t ng irregularly shaped blocks. Shallow setbacks in

most areas create a consistent street wall that is well de ned, butarger houses along prominent boulevards are set back deeper intohe lot, allowing the street wall to be de ned by the mature treeanopy with trunks anking the wider sidewalks.

Residences are typically single family, but mul t -family is found onmajor boulevards. They vary in height from one to three storieswith prominent pedestrian entry points, frequently have porches,

itched roofs and ornament, favoring Cra f sman Shotguns, QueenAnnes, and some Italianate. Monolithic stairs commonly front

ouses with raised rst oors. Commercial uses are typicallyound on larger boulevards, but occasionally smaller businesses

may be within residen t al areas and scaled accordingly, many beingonverted residences.
