Instructions Work in alone or in a small group, no more than three.

Read through the problems and choose one you would like to solve, check with your teacher to see if they think it is suitable for yourgroup.

Devise a plan to solve your problem and put the plan into action.

Prepare a short oral presentation to explain to your class how yousolved your chosen problem. Your explanation must include

[1] Your original plan of how to solve the problem.

[2] A step by step guide of what you did to get your answer.

[3] Details of any changes to your original plan and why those

changes were made.[4] A detailed explanation of all your working out.

You may choose any medium to support your presentation (chart,PowerPoint, Photostory, etc) however visual aids are stronglyrecommended.

Our Plan 1Write your plan of how you will solve the problem here:

    1. Get a meter wheel and meter sticks to measure the pool.2. Go to the ECC swimming pool and measure the length and the

width and the depth of the water.

    3. Use these measurements to calculate the volume of the pool in

centimeters. (Multiply)Please complete this plan remember there are steps!!

    4. Measure the length, width and height of the stairs.

    5. Subtract the volume of stairs from the pools volume to the answerto get the answer.

    Working out the answer

    W of pool=400cm L of pool =700cm D of pool =60cmWxLxD=ANSWER

    MINUS STEPS TO ANSWER=

    Measurement of the steps:

    Step one: W=40 cm L=359cm D= 9cmStep two: W=40 cm L=359cm D=19cm

    KEY: VOLUME.

How can you convert this volume into mL of L which measure water?

    1 cm3= 1mL

    1,000mL= 1L

orking out the answerTotal Pool Size= 16,800,000 cubic centimeters.

    Steps = 402,080 cubic centimeters.

x = Total volume of poolWhole pool: 400x700x60=16,800,000

    Step 1: 40x359x9= 129,240

    Step 2: 40x359x19= 272,840129, 240+ 272,840= 402,080

    16,800,000- 402,080= 16,397,920

    O

ur Solution No.1!The answer was 16,397,920 cm3( used volume).

    For mL : 16,397,920 mL

    For L: 1,639.7920 L

How did we work it out? No.1

We first went to the measuring pool and met with Julis and Jear-Eingsgroup. They were measuring the length and width of the pool so I

counted the clicks. Then, I came upstairs and calculate everythingusing volume.

Later, we thought about the steps and measure the steps. Then, wetimes the D, L and W of the steps and subtract it with the originalanswer. Which give us 16,397,920 cm3!!! We then found out that 1

cm3 = 1ml, we can convert it in to mL and L.
