PrologueTourism, one of the largest sources of income in our country, because of our beautiful beaches, magni-cent mountains and splendid upland forests. For those who are looking for something more than an adventure, we have created Panama Virtual Magazine. This magazine is based on the needs to promote domestic tourism and foreign tourism, designed so that every visitor knows what to do, where to go, where to stay, what to eat, where to live, drug safety, where dancing and other things to discover in this comprehensive guide. Our mission is to provide tourist information and cultural aware-ness in the province of Chiriqui and the various regions of Panama, visitors and residents through a virtual magazine, illustrated with attractive pictures of products and services that the customer only imagine and are at its disposal to satisfy their taste.

Boquete is known as the "Valley of the Flowers". Nestled in the west-ern highlands of Panama, near the border to Costa Rica. Boquete shares some of the same mountain ranges with Costa Rica, as well as, some of the incredible wildlife and rain forests. However, because it is not as well known, and a 'road less traveled', prices are lower, and it is not as commercial. You can hike for 1/2 a day, or all day, and still have a rare chance to see the Resplendent Quetzal, or a Howler Monkey in the wild. The Boquete Valley is rich with agriculture as well; strawberries, oranges, and coee come from this region. Volcan Baru, Panama's highest point, is literally the easiest place in the world to see both of the worlds great oceans. The famous 'geisha' coee, that was sold at auction, for $130 a pound, can be

Chiriquí was rst discovered in 1519 by Gaspar de Espinosa. The province was ocially established on May 26, 1849, when Panama was still part of Colombia. Chiriquí was Abraham Lincoln`s favored destination for Linconia, a project of colonization by free blacks. Chiriquí was the province in which Manuel A. Noriega rose in the military ranks which included helping bring Omar Torrijos back into the country after a coup.

Chiriquí is a province of Panama, it is located on the western coast of Panama, and it is also the second most developed province in the country, after the Panama Prov-ince. Its capital is the city of David, founded on 1602, by Francisco de Gama, advisor to the governor Juan López de Siqueira and under

In November, Panama celebrates a month of national festivities. Throughout November, all around the country the ag and patriotic symbols are displayed. There are four days of great historical importance for Panama in November. The days of national celebration are the 3rd, 4th, 10th and 28th of November. The celebrations these days are due to the separation of Panama from Colombia, the Flag day, the "cry" of independence and the independence from Spain, respectively. Wearing the colors of the ag, Panama celebrates these festivities with several events and parades throughout the country. The historic dates are the following:

November 3rd:Panama was founded as a Republic after its separation from Colombia on November 3th 1903. Actually, Panamanians call this day the day of "separation" instead of Independence Day.

November 4th:As part of the celebration of

November 10th:This date marks the "cry of independence" which meant the independence of Panama as a Republic, in the town of "La Villa de Los Santos".

November 28th:Panama, as part of Colombia, got its independence from Spain on November 28th 1821. This festival is also celebrated as Independence Day. On this patriotic´s days, Panama dresses in red, blue and white and celebrates with parades in the most important avenues of the city. This year's celebration will be on David the most important city of Chiriqui and in other parts of the province such as: Dolega, Puerto Armuelles, Bugaba and in Panama as a country. Most schools throughout the country will display their musical bands through these streets as thousands of proud Panamanians applaud their merits. It's a great and unforgettable experience for everyone, both local and foreign.

Chiriqui Provincehis mandatory. In the beginning the actual Bolívar Park probably was the park of the town. At the end of the XIX century, David had six streets, but only four were the center of the town, sector actually known as Barrio Bolívar. In that center was located the Ermita de San José, actually the San José Cathedral.

Humpback whales have previously been reported o the Pacic coast of Central America during the austral winter season (Townsend 1935; Acevedo and Smultea 1995; Florez-Gonzalez et al. 1998; Rasmussen et al. 2007). Photo-identication results indicate that these whales are primarily migrating from feeding areas o the Antarctic Peninsula and Chile. In this study, surveys were conducted during the austral winter of 2007 in the Gulf of Chiriquí, western Panama, with the objectives of collecting additional identication photographs, documenting the presence of mother calf pairs and other group types, and recording song. These surveys were part of an ongoing study since 2001 documenting humpback whales o Pacic Central America during the austral winter.

The Gulf of Chiriqui is located in the western part of Panama, and

is bordered by the Azuero peninsula to the east, and the Burica peninsula to the west. This gulf is characterized by generally shallow waters and many island groups. Surveys were opportunistic in design, aimed at maximizing the number of whales to be sampled. Daily surveys were conducted from a 22-foot berglass boat with twin outboard engines. Data collected for every whale sighting included GPS location, behaviors, group composition, bottom depth, and sea surface temperature. Photo-identication techniques were used in which whales were approached slowly from behind, and the undersides of the tail ukes were photographed with a Nikon digital SLR camera in order to identify individuals. A hydrophone from Cetacean Research Technology (model SQ 26-08) was deployed regularly to determine acoustically if any humpback whales were present. Identication photographs were compared with identications previously obtained o Central America during the austral winter.
