What a great week we had on our Appalachia Mission 2014! Our team of 13 members (High

School, College Students and Adults) served July 7-11 in Rose Hill, Virginia at the Morgan Memorial United Methodist Church. We held a Vacation Bible School for 30-40 local children and teenagers ranging from 4 to 18 years of age. This year we

had the awesome opportunity to have 2 local team members serve with us----these young women have attended our Vacation Bible School since they were small children and we were blessed to have them serve with us! We had a great week, and we'd like to thank all of the Prayer Partners at First ARP for their support through prayer----the Lord blessed us with safety and good participation at our site. Please continue to keep in prayer the church, and the town of Rose Hill as the Lord continues His work there. We look forward to next year's Appalachia Mission, July 4th-10th 2015. Team members from our church were Key Barkley, Taylor Madsen, Claire McAllister, Christopher

McKinney, Hannah McKinney, Roddey Smith, Melissa Spradle with Luke and Molly Grigsby.

First ARP Preschool needs you!

We will be starting a new school year in just a few short weeks and there are MANY opportunities for EVERY church member to be involved! As one of our Key Impact Ministries, the Preschool Committee is planning ways for our entire church family to support this ministry. Attending monthly Family Chapel, adopting one of the classes

(great idea for Sunday School classes!), or volunteering for story times are just some of the ways First ARP members can build relationships with our preschool families. More information about these opportunities will be coming soon but we pray that each church family will strive to support our preschool in a new way this school year.

Have You Heard?

Exciting News!!!! Lucille Harper will be joining our staff

as Director of Children’s Choirs (part time). Lucille is the former music teacher at Ebinport Elementary School (recently retired) and has close connections with our church. Many of you know Lucille and her creative spirit! Lucille has many exciting things planned for our children this school year, including productions at Christmas and in the spring, as well as having our children sing in worship on Sunday mornings during the year. Her work with our elementary aged children will begin on Wednesday, September 3, at 6:00 p.m. following dinner. The Children’s Choir (grades K-5) will meet each Wednesday at that time. Preschool children will have music with Amanda Ghent during this time as well! Please welcome Lucille, and plan to have your children/grandchildren, participate in choir this year!

F irst ARP has been tremendously blessed this past year through

the All American Athletes program (our sports outreach to children with special needs). It has given us the opportunity to minister with and alongside families who have children with developmental delays as well as their siblings. Several special needs children attended VBS this summer and it is evident the Holy Spirit is working in their lives.

Beginning this Fall, we are partnering with Joni and Friends, to implement an inclusion based buddy system. Essentially, each child who has a developmental delay is partnered with a buddy and placed in already existing classrooms. Kate Brueck, from Joni and Friends, led a Buddy Training Session in July; information and video from this session are available for those who were unable to attend.

Kate will return on Sunday, September 21 at 5:30 pm to offer further training to our teachers and volunteers. Everyone is welcome to attend this session.
