December, 2017 Arcola School 302 Souris Ave. Arcola, SK S0C 0G0 Ph: (306) 455-2340 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE As we enter the holiday season, it was magical to spend some time with the grade one class recently and their new guest, Elvis the elf. The smiles were priceless as I read them the story that had just arrived from the North Pole. I always enjoy this special time of the year where we can celebrate family and friends and hopefully be reminded to also do good to others. A special thank-you to everyone that made it out for our first round of student-led conferences last week. If you were unable to make it for some reason, please contact the school in order to re- schedule a time. Remember, if your son or daughter is going to be absent from school for any reason, you can save us from mak- ing many phone calls in the morning by phoning the school ahead of time to let us know. I hope to see you out at the afternoon or the evening Christmas concert this year on Tuesday, December 19. As well, we will be holding our traditional Christmas feast on the last day of school before the Christmas break. Many thanks to the teachers and stu- dents who are working hard on these endeavours and making our school such a special place. Enjoy the winter season and keep safe, everyone! SENIOR BOYS

This season the Senior boys were coached by Tyson Hislop. Miss Houston and Mr. Brown helped manage the team. The boys had a successful season, competing with local teams in exhibition games and represented our school at provincials in Rocanville on November 24th and 25th, 2017. The boys’ road to provincials started on November 10, 2017 in Rocanville. The boys placed third and were off to dis-tricts at Carry the Kettle. At Carry the Kettle the boys came together as a team and the rookie players had their chance to shine. The rookies challenged the first place Rocanville team. The boys were off to provincials in Rocanville the following weekend. The boys may not have won on the court but they showed their love of

the game on and off the court. A big thank you goes out to all the par-ents who helped out this season. Congratulations on making it pro-vincials boys!

JUNIOR

BOYS

This year was a rebuilding year for the Junior Boys. We had a young team, but these boys worked hard and it paid off. The team travelled to Gladmar on No-vember 9th for districts. They started off slow in their first game, but bonded together off the court in-between games and this teamwork paid off once again. They advanced to semi-finals ahead of Pleasantdale by one point, battled hard, and finished off in third place. Mrs. Karlunchuck and Miss Houston are very proud of the boys improvement on and off the court throughout the season.

The grade one class donated toys and items to fill two boxes for Operation Christmas Child. They were very excited that they are going to make one little boy and one little girl very happy at Christmas. They had so much that they had extra items to donate for another box. They also brought $60 to help with shipping costs. Ms. Nobert is very proud of them!
