Our sari range is full of colour and rich beautiful fabrics. All the paper is acid free and tree friendly. Khadda paper is handmade from recycled cotton left over from the massive garment industry. As well as plain paper, the paper in some of these books and albums will also have a splash of petals. The paper is made by a local charity that supports educational development in rural villages in Rajasthan, and is carefully put together using traditional methods by local crafts people. When you order from this range we will send you an assortment of colours.

RECYCLED SARI BUNTINGOur sari stationery range sells so well we are always left with lots of gorgeous sari offcuts and we’ve never really known what to do with them – until now. One of our producers suggested making recycled sari bunting and now we employ more women from the village exclusively to make our colourful new bunting.

My beautiful journal has been used to record my holiday thoughts and was nearly half fu ll when a bottle of water in my bag burst and drenched it. I imagined having to peel apart each page as it dried to save my treasured words as you would for normal paper, but no, it just dried like cloth and, apart from smudges from a gel pen entry, it has dried out well enough to continue using. It’s a little crinkled, but I think it looks all the more intrepid.”

Our handmade elephant dung paper products are made from 75% elephant dung and 25% recycled paper. The paper comes from a charity in Sri Lanka called the Maximus Conservation Trust which is in the grounds of the Millennium Elephant Foundation. The MEF is a charity that cares for sick and disabled elephants as well as promoting the plight of the Sri Lankan elephant. It is the ultimate in recycled paper! The brass motifs on the covers are hand crafted.

Lokta paper is made from the bark of the Lokta, or Daphne papyracea plant. Lokta grows in the Himalayas at altitudes in excess of 6500ft and is abundant in supply. Due to the overwhelming positive response to our felt products, we have vastly increased our range. We source our felt products from one of the front runners in fairly traded felt making in Nepal. We are very happy to be working closely with this company and feel that these products present excellent value for money whilst being extremely well made. Felt is a fine fabric which is made through the entanglement of fibres by applying heat, moisture and pressure on wool. The felt is made from merino wool and has no artificial colours or dyes. 28 CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS A BEAUTIFUL FAIR TRADE ADDITION TO ANY TREE
Our new Christmas decorations have been designed with an assortment of styles and materials in mind. We have kept with the traditional styles of Christmas decorations and have used materials such as felt, wire and mango wood. Handmade by WFTO Fair Trade producers such as Noah’s Ark, ACP and TARA Projects.
Our new distressed white mango wood stars, hearts and ceramic drawer boxes are made by WFTO accredited producers in India. They are made entirely by hand using traditional skills handed down from generation to generation. Mango trees have an extremely long life but eventually do stop bearing fruit and are replaced by younger trees. As India produces, by far, the most mangos in the world this results in a massive industry using one of the most sustainable woods known to man. The ceramic drawers are hand painted by skilled artisans.

We had so much fun developing our new glass and ceramic products and searched the Indian sub continent to find just what we wanted. These products are made by 3 different WFTO producers and each have their own styles and skills. We are especially excited about our Nepalese pottery cups and will certainly be keeping a couple for ourselves.

CERAMIC CUPS These fantastic hand crafted cups are made by just one man in a small village and we loved them so much we decided to show them to the world. It is incredibly humbling to know that the sales of these cups directly helps a small family and enhances their family life. As they are made by one person they are in limited supply so be quick.

BELL TOTASThese lovely multi coloured fabric birds with beads and small metal bells can be hung in a doorway or anywhere in your home to welcome guests. They are lovingly made from remnants of cloth by the women from the village of Chota Narayan in Rajasthan.

We are very happy to be working with a fantastic organisation in Rajasthan called the Barefoot College. Established in 1972, their objective is to help rural communities to become self sufficient and sustainable by working with solar energy, water, education, health care, rural handicrafts, communication, women’s empowerment and wasteland development. The work they do is truly amazing and an inspiration. We look forward to furthering our ranges in the future.

NEPALI FELT
Most of our colourful felt products
are handmade by one of the leading,
and most inspiring, felt making
producers in Nepal. It is a Fair Trade
company which provides training and
work for women within some of the
poorest communities in Nepal - to
date the company has empowered
more than 100 women. It is also
committed to conservation through
its choice of raw materials and, for
example, by using solar energy to
help run its operations.
All the products are handmade from
wool using only natural colours and
dyes and created using traditional
methods. Instead of weaving the
wool, felt is created by applying heat,
moisture and pressure to the wool
to entangle the fibres and create a
beautiful end result.
ACP
The Association for Craft Producers
(ACP) are based in the Kathmandu
valley in Nepal and are a not-for-
profit, Fair Trade organisation and
WFTO member providing design,
marketing, management, and
technical services to low-income
Nepalese craft producers.
ACP are inspirational in their mission
to support the local crafts people
and bring their work to a global
market in exchange for fair wages
and benefits. The shared expertise
of ACP means that they can blend
traditional craft with modern design
and work in partnership with us to
create beautiful products exclusively
for Paper High.
ACP are committed not only to Fair
Trade but the environment too; for
example, its Kathmandu workshops
and offices have installed a waste
water treatment plant and have a
rainwater harvesting system. We are
really excited to be working with ACP
and are looking forward to a long and
fruitful relationship.
NOAH’S ARK
We came across Noah’s Ark a few
years ago and since then have
wanted to work with them. They are
a fantastic Fair Trade organisation
and work with some very talented
producer groups. Their products are
incredibly well made and the founder,
Samuel, is an inspirational man.
Noah’s Ark’s mission is to commit
themselves and the producer
groups they work with to Fair Trade
principles with the goal of changing
the lives of grass root artisans. Their
focus on education and capacity
building enables the people they
support to become more aware
of fair working conditions and the
environment in order to prove the
value, cultural heritage and beauty
of their hand made products. The
longer term effect is that they are
working collectively towards poverty
eradication.
Noah’s Ark are members of the
WFTO and Fair Trade Forum
India. They work with around 49
different artisan groups, involving
approximately 500 artisans.
TARA
TARA (Trade Alternative Reform
Action) Projects are another
WFTO and Fair Trade Forum India
organisation that we have wanted
to work with for a long time. We
are really pleased that we have now
the opportunity to work with such
dedicated people.
TARA Projects began in the early
1970’s with the object of creating
opportunities and support for
economically disadvantaged home
based artisans and crafts people of
Delhi and its surrounding areas. Over
the years the project has extended its
work into the adjoining states of Uttar
Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan.
TARA Projects provides services to
enable the production and marketing
of handicrafts following Fair Trade
principles, alongside providing
education and support to empower
the grass roots crafts people. At the
heart of TARA Projects’ work is a
dedication for eradicating poverty
by fighting against the exploitation
and illiteracy of the producers and its
working communities.
