Class of 2012MUST things that will make your life easier during Plebe Summer, especially the first two.

• Be able to do 65 pushups (women 35).• Be able to run 3 miles. • Memorize the first three orders of the General Orders of a Sentry*.• Know the Mission of the Naval Academy*.• Know the five proper responses, especially the “Sir Sandwich”. The very first

thing that will be said to each Plebe as he/she enters Alumni Hall is: “From now on, the first and last words out of your mouth will be ‘sir’ or ‘ma’am’. Is that understood?” Inevitably, the Plebe, nervous and overwhelmed with what is before him/her responds “Yes, Sir”. (“Yes, Ma’am.”) This answer is of course, wrong – and it will be a bad start to the long day. The proper response is “Sir, yes sir”. (“Ma’am, yes ma’am.”)

• Memorize your ALPHA NUMBER as soon as it is given to you.
