MISSION STATEMENT OF ST. EULALIA’S PARISH The Parish Community of St. Eulalia makes present the Lord Jesus Christ in the celebration of the Eucharist, the meeting of parishioners for various prayer opportunities, and outreach to the marginalized. We share in the works of the local Ministerium through common prayers. We are resolved to grow the faith of the Church with our children through religious education and with all others through the RCIA. We challenge ourselves to develop service projects for youth and young adults, and to become more welcoming to all. With continued growth in our area, Evangelization occurs through various outlets including pastoral outreach, sacramental preparation, and the promotion of an intimate respect for all life.
JUNE 24, 2018 THE NATIVITY OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST
JOHN THE BAPTIST
Since June 24 falls on a Sunday this year, the
Church has the opportunity for a more intense cele-
bration of the birth of John the Baptist, who is often
described as the last of the Old Testament prophets
and the bridge between Judaism and Christianity.
More commonly, John is known as the “precursor”
of our Lord Jesus Christ. All the Gospels report
John’s basic message: Repent, the kingdom is near
at hand. One greater than I is coming.
Though he was a wandering preacher who dressed
in camel skins and ate grasshoppers, John’s legacy is
one of true royalty. His origins are similar to those
foretold by God through the prophet Isaiah: “You
are my servant, he said to me, Israel through whom I
show my glory” (Isaiah 49:3). John’s humility—“I
am not he”—was surpassed only by that of his Lord
Jesus, the humble servant who followed. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

REMEMBERING OUR DECEASED
Each week in the Prayer of the Faithful we pray for those
of our parish, their relatives and friends who have died
during the previous week. We check the newspapers, but
it would help us avoid missing anyone if you would call
the rectory and give us their names.
MASS TIMES WEBSITE
If you will be traveling, please visit masstimes.org, a
website for Catholics to get to Mass by helping them find
churches and worship times worldwide. The mass-
times.org website provides worship times, church loca-
tions, contact information, website links and maps.
SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND
Collection for the Care and Education of Priests will take
place at all masses next weekend, June 30-July 1. Your
generosity helps fund the ever increasing costs associated
with the care and education of priests.
OUR WEEKLY STEWARDSHIP OFFERING
For the weekend of June 16-17
Sunday Offering $6,944.55 Thank you for your commitment to our parish and for
making up your envelopes for missed Sundays. As our
parish community grows, so does our need to increase
our support. We are all grateful to those who have re-
sponded to our needs for increased weekly giving. Think
of the Automated Offertory Program. We are now ac-
cepting credit card transactions.
Please remember that your parish expenses continue,
snow, rain or shine, and that we need your offerings in
order to meet these expenses. If you missed any weekly
envelopes, please bring your contributions up to date. An
easy way to support our parish offertory collection is to
enroll in St. Eulalia’s Automatic Offertory program. This
“easy envelope giving program” keeps you current in
your weekly gift of gratitude to God and secures on-
going support to our Parish resources. Thank you for
giving this a thought. And thank you especially to those
for acting on it.
To sign up for St. Eulalia’s Automatic Offertory program,
click on the logo Enrollment Form on the parish website
to get started: www.sainteulalias.com.
Credit cards are now accepted. You can have your Visa/
MasterCard debited regularly for your parish support,
replacing your weekly envelopes. Call the parish office
for details.
SACRIFICIAL OFFERING
Memorial Day was the “unofficial” start of the vacation
season. Please do not “take a vacation” from attending
Mass. Please also remember your parish as you attend
other parish communities this summer. Our bills do not
“take a vacation.” We are grateful for your constant sup-
port and commitment.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
IS 49: 1-6; PS 139: 1B-3, 13-15; ACTS 13: 22-26; LK 1: 57-66, 80
Today is the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John
the Baptist (the Feast Day of the birth of John the
Baptist). To say John the Baptist and Jesus were
closely related and connected is an understatement.
Both were foretold by prophets, especially Isaiah.
The only record of the birth of John the Baptist ap-
pears in the Gospel of Luke and it is at the heart of
our Gospel Reading today. A key player in this
event is, of course, John the Baptist’s father Zecha-
riah. Zechariah was a Jewish priest, but when the
Archangel Gabriel revealed to him that he would
father a child, Zechariah refused to believe it. As a
result he was rendered speechless until John was
born.
Zechariah had total trust in the Lord, however. Al-
though it was traditional at that time to name the first
son after the father, he and Elizabeth had been told
to name him John. As reported in the Gospel, Eliza-
beth said “He will be called John.” The family pro-
tested at which time the Zechariah wrote “His name
is John.” When he did that, Zechariah could speak
once more. He did not say “should be”; he said “is.”
The trust shown by Zechariah is an example to us
that we must trust in God, not just when it is conven-
ient, but all the time. Those of advanced generations
know who Lawrence Welk was. Born and raised
Catholic, Welk practiced his faith throughout his
life. He once said, “Never trust anyone completely
but God. Love people, but put your full trust only in
God.”
WELCOME HOME!
A warm welcome home to all our college students!
It is terrific to see your smiling faces back for the
summer months. You bring a great spirit to our par-
ish family.
IT’S LUNCH BAG DONATION TIME AGAIN!
Last year, our youth group packed and donated 1000
lunch bags to the North Pocono Food Pantry. This
year, we are hoping to meet and exceed that number!
These lunch bags will go to children in our commu-
nity who benefit from free or reduced breakfast and
lunches during the school year. Each lunch contains
nutritious items including granola bars, fruit, juice,
crackers, and snack food items. Please support our
project by donating non-perishable items that can be
used towards our lunch bag program. We are cur-
rently collecting food and monetary donations.
DISCO WIZARD OF OZ
The Arc Angels On Stage, a performing arts theater
troupe solely made up of special needs adults, will
present Disco Wizard of Oz. The public perform-
ance will be presented at North Pocono High School
auditorium on Saturday, June 30 at 1:00 PM. Ad-
mission is free to the public, but donations are ac-
cepted. The Arc Angels on Stage: Adults with dis-
abilities (Stars) perform alongside students from lo-
cal high schools (Theater Buddies) to bring a unique
performance to the stage at North Pocono High
School. More than ten NP area students serve as
theater buddies, volunteering their time to encourage
creativity. The production is partially funded by
Lackawanna Arts & Culture Grant.
THE GREATEST NEED The world’s greatest need is
not more Christians, but more Christians who practice their Christianity.
