With Christ we want to “advance secure in the glory of God, with his mercy and justice for company.” We do that this Advent by living the memory that Christ is born to save us. The “affection of Christ Jesus” moves us to embrace every sacrifice that prepares in us the way of the cross. SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT: HOPE
We light a second purple candle on the second Sunday of Advent to represent the hope of Christ coming to the world. The word "hope" has two meanings in the Bible. The first, tiqvah, con-tains the sense of eager anticipation or waiting. The second, elpis. de-picts a sense of confident expectation based on certainty. Biblical hope is secured by God's faithfulness to His promises. For the Old Testa-ment leaders, their hope was in the Messiah's arrival. For us, it is the hope of the Messiah's return. God's plan for humanity unfolded in the town of Bethlehem, the birth-place of the Messiah, joyously fulfilling a long-awaited promise. Today we confidently wait for the Messiah's triumphant return.
The sports program at Summerville Catholic School will be sell-ing Christmas trees.
We will have Fraser Firs in various sizes ranging from 4-5ft to 9-10ft. Wreaths will also be available in two different siz-es. Please share our Christmas tree fundraiser with families and
friends to support the Summerville Catholic Sports Program.

Catholic Youth Stand Up for Life Rally Saturday, January 12, 2019

State House to the Township Auditorium.
The Justin Dery Band will be leading us in praise and worship music.
Bishop Guglielmone will host a Town Hall meeting for all parishioners in our area on Monday, Dec 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Dr. in Charleston. During the meeting, the Bishop will talk about and an-swer questions related to the current crisis in the Church and the U.S. Bishops’ meeting in Balti-more. Please consider attending what will be an in-formative evening.
“Ha resonado una voz en el desierto,
preparen el camino del Señor”
SENTIDO DEL ADVIENTO El Adviento es también un tiempo de preparación para la segunda venida de Cristo. Como católicos, creemos que Cristo vendrá de nuevo al final de los tiempos y así lo profesamos en el Credo cada domingo: "Y vendrá otra vez con gloria a juzgar a vivos y muertos; Y su reino no tendrá fin" (Credo Niceno-constantinopolitano). Durante el Adviento nos preparamos para la venida de Cristo en Navidad, pero también recordamos que Cristo prometió volver. El Catecismo nos dice: "Celebrando la natividad y el marti-rio del Precursor, la Iglesia se une al deseo de éste: "Es preciso que él crezca y yo disminuya" (Jn 3, 30)." (Catecismo 524). El Adviento es un tiempo de espera para la segunda venida, así como un reconocimiento de que seremos juzgados por Cristo por nuestras acciones y decisiones. Por esta razón el Adviento es un tiempo de arre-pentimiento; esperamos con alegría la venida de Cristo, pero también buscamos el perdón por nuestros pecados para poder estar preparados. El Evangelio de Marcos proclama: "Estén prevenidos, entonces, por-que no saben cuándo llegará el dueño de casa, si al atardecer, a medianoche, al canto del gallo o por la mañana. No sea que llegue de improviso y los encuentre dormidos." (Mc 13, 35-36). El Papa Emérito Benedicto XVI enseñó sobre esta llamada a la vigilancia: "¡Vigilad! Esta es la llamada de Jesús en el Evangelio. No se dirige sólo a sus discípulos sino a todos. ¡Vigilad! (Mc 13, 37). Es una exhorta-ción saludable que nos recuerda que la vida no tiene sólo la dimensión terrena, sino que está proyectada hacia un "más allá", como una plantita que germina de la tierra y se abre hacia el cielo. Una plantita pensan-te, el hombre, dotada de libertad y responsabilidad, por lo que cada uno de nosotros será llamado a rendir cuentas de cómo ha vivido, de cómo ha utilizado sus propias capacidades: si las ha conservado para sí o las ha hecho fructificar también para el bien de los hermanos."
Este evangelio hace ver que la fe cristiana tiene sus raíces en la historia, y que esa historia necesita transformación. Lo que hace el cambio es la palabra de Dios. San Lucas nota las coordenadas históricas de emperadores y reyes que marcan un orden admirable y una organización tan sólida como una pirámide, en cuya cúspide se encuentra el emperador, Tiberio; en la línea inferior de la autoridad está la familia sacerdotal saducea, que administra el templo de Jerusalén.
La palabra de Dios, sin embargo, halla camino muy diferente el del desierto. Allí viene un hombre, Juan, cuyo nombre signi-fica “Dios a gracia” ; o “Dios se compadece”; él es el hijo de una sacerdote, Zacarías, cuyo nombre significa “Dios se Acuerda”. La transformación nace del recuerdo y la compasión de Dios.
La obra de penitencia que Juan anuncia es u proyecto de justi-cia. El mismo que evocan las palabras del profeta Isaías. Los caminos rectos y las cuestas allanadas son imágenes de la igualdad que la ley de Dios buscaba. Esta es también la con-vicción que mueve a la Iglesia en estas semanas de Adviento.
PARA SER MIEMBROS DE LA PARROQUIA
Los miembros activos de nuestra parroquia se identifican por su generosidad de tiempo, talento y su participación se determina por: 1.) Estar formalmente registrado y activo en la parroquia durante por lo menos tres meses 2.) Fiel asistencia a Misa los domingos y días de precepto 3.) Apoyo a la parroquia mediante el sistema de sobres; 4.) La participación en al menos un ministerio u organización en la parroquia se prefiere. Estos criterios se utilizan para verificar el estado del feligrés en nuestra parroquia para: proporcionar certificados; inscripción en escuelas parroquiales; participación en ministerios sacramentales, educativos y pastoral social; actividades y progra-mas de enriquecimiento; y uso de instalaciones y servicios. Un feligrés inactivo por seis meses se moverá a un estado inactivo.
PARA RECIBIR SACRAMENTOS Para los Sacramentos de Bautismo (para niños de 5 años o menor) y Matrimonio, in-cluyendo una Quinceañera, se requiere una cita con el Padre Arnulfo antes de comenzar sus arreglos. Para los Sacramentos de Bautismo (para niños de 6 años o mas), primera comunión y confirmación para todas edades, comuní-quese con la coordinadora de la educación religiosa. Por favor, llame a la oficina parro-quial para figar su cita o para mas informa-ción.

Las Caridades Católicas tienen una persona que habla español y a quien pueden llamar a 855.377.1357 ext. 33. Existen diferentes tipos de ayuda a los que se puede re-currir. Entre otros bolsas de alimentos. Los invitamos a contactarlos.
MINISTERIO DE AYUDA “DESPENSA Y CLOSET” El Padre Arnulfo se enorgullece de anunciar el gran inicio del Ministerio de Ayuda: “Despensa y Closet” en la Parroquia Santo Tomas Apóstol. El objetivo principal es proporcionar asistencia de emergencia con Alimento y Vestido a los feligreses y miembros de la comunidad en situación de nece-sidad. Un grupo de voluntarios se ha integrado para formar este Ministerio de Ayuda. Otro servicio a ser ofrecido será el proporcionar información sobre las ayu-das o servicios disponibles a través de Caridades Católicas, así como The United Way. El Padre Arnulfo expresa su agradecimiento a los Caballeros de Colon (Consejo 8900), por la organización de la colección de alimentos realizada durante la pasada Cuaresma; a través de los cuales se iniciará esta despen-sa de alimentos en nuestra Parroquia. Este Ministerio de Ayuda, también iniciará un Closet de Ropa al servicio de los necesitados. Todos estos servicios serán posibles gracias a la generosi-dad de ustedes, nuestros feligreses. Los invitamos a donar ropa limpia y en buen estado, así como alimentos para apoyar este hermoso Ministerio. La Despensa y el Closet estarán abiertos los segundos sábados del mes des-de las 10:00 AM hasta las 12:00 del mediodía. Las personas interesadas en recibir ayuda, deberán dirigirse al salón parroquial. Luego los voluntarios los guiarán hasta el lugar de la despensa. Los letreros con la señalización co-rrespondiente se colocarán solo en los días que la despensa esté abierta. noche para compartir una hora de Adoración. El último jueves del mes el tiempo de
