PWRDF Announces $20,000 for Vanuatu after Cyclone Pam

PWRDF has announced an initial grant of $20,000 in relief funds for Vanuatu after Cyclone Pam tore

through the country this weekend. Entire villages were destroyed by the storm. According to a BBC article, “President Baldwin Lonsdale said the storm had “wiped out” all development of recent years

and his country would have to rebuild “everything”.”

PWRDF continues to monitor the situation, and are in contact with the

ACT Alliance about the relief needs in Vanuatu.

Please make donations payable to “PWRDF”, mark them for “Vanuatu”.

The Electromagnetic Age … A Sleeping Giant??

Brain tumors, Alzheimer's dementia, sleep disturbances, decreased memory, male infertility, immune dysfunction, childhood learning and behavioral im-pairments – are all linked by scientific studies to Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs). The World Health Organization has classified EMF-producing wireless devices as possibly cancer-causing.

Dr. Malcolm Paterson, PhD, whose career in cancer research spanned over 40 years on 3 continents, will review the health-related science of wireless devices including mobile phones, WiFi in schools and smart meters.

Learn the science-based facts and what you can do to protect your and your family’s health.

RIDES TO CHURCH FOR SENIORS

It has come to the attention of the Church Committee that a number of

seniors and/or disabled are missing church because they lack transpor-

tation and the bus service on Sunday is not adequate.

Seniors and/or disabled who need a ride to church on Sunday are invited

to phone the church office (250-492-4325) by Thursday each week to request a ride. The

secretary will keep a list of requests and a church committee representative will contact

you to confirm the details of your ride. Anyone attending St. Saviour’s (either service) who

is willing and able to participate in the program by giving rides, please leave your name

and telephone number at the office.

Can You Help?

Providing catering for funeral receptions in the Parish Hall is an important

ministry and fundraiser for the parish, but we're in need of a few more

people to help. Specifically, we need a table-setter, platers, servers, clean-

up help and bakers. If you can help in any of these areas, we have

provided a sign up at the back of the church or speak to

Cindy Ryley (250-492-5874).

On Wednesday, April 8th, 2015 at 2:00p.m.,

we will be holding a special Easter service of

Holy Communion for

shut-ins and those who have difficulty getting to church.

Following the service, refreshments will be served in the

parish hall.

If you would like to come, and need transportation, please

call our interim Pastoral Associate Angela King at

250-328-9997 or the Church office at 250-492-4325.

I hope I will have the please of seeing you.

Yours in Christ’s love,

The Rev. Canon Mike Stuchbery

Well it is almost Spring and time to think about what to plant.

This year St. Saviour's will again be taking part in a Spring Plant Fundraiser.

The supplier is the same, DeVrey's Greenhouse so we can expect the same great quality of plants. The prices have also remained

the same! In 2014 we raised $1748.80 from this fundraiser and I am hoping this year we will do the same.

Last year many of you took part in this fundraiser buying plants and also selling them to some of your friends and family.

Flowers will be ready to pick on Saturday May 9th , right in time for Mother's Day.

Orders and money will need to be in by Sunday April 18.

All cheques are to be made payable to St. Saviours.

Looking forward to another very successful fundraiser. Aleta

PWRDF Good News Story

I am already home, buy my mind and heart

are full of the visit to the Philippines and the hol-

lowed out exhaustion of jet lag that strikes every

afternoon. Jet lag recovery generally takes a day

for every hour of time difference.

My first full day of visiting in the Philippines

started in Cebu. Patrick Gerard Torres, the new,

young executive director of Central Visayas Farm-

ers Development Center, Inc. (FARDEC) went with

me by ferry to the island of Bohol. Three young

dancers/workshop leaders, one researcher/

documentary maker, one staff, and the founder

welcomed us to the Bohol People’s Art Develop-

ment Centre (BPADC).

They shared their stories of October 15,

2013 when a 7.2 earthquake occurred at 8.12

a.m. and the aftershocks that continue and fright-

en those who lived through the earthquake.

Members of BPADC worked tirelessly delivering

food relief after the earthquake

They are now resuming workshops which offer

young people an opportunity to express their

feelings about the earthquake through dance and

drama, and the effect if has had on their lives and

communities. Working with local nurses, BPADC

provides psycho-social support for people who

have lost their houses and often family members,

and face years of rebuilding homes, schools and

communities. In many places the land is not yet

stable enough to rebuild.

On a drive along the coast we stopped at a

marine park where the shoreline after the earth-

quake has permanently receded nearly 40 me-

ters. A rainbow appeared on the horizon while we

were there. Dancer Marlon’s father and mother

welcomed us to their barangay (neighbourhood)

and offered us freshly cut coconuts to drink and

eat. Marlon says he hasn’t inherited his father’s

ability to climb coconut palms, but that evening I

saw the same grace and dexterity manifested in

his dances for social change. When people are

pressed by disasters and external forces that di-

minish or destroy life, desires for food, drink and

healthy communities distil into demands for sur-

vival and a future where people have a day and

active role in what happens to their land and live-

lihoods
