BAPTISM PREPARATION CLASS: The next Baptism Prepara-

tion class will be held on December 14, 2016, 7:45pm, in the Adult Edu-

cation Room. It is required that both parents attend a preparation class

before your child is baptized. Godparents are invited. Please call the Par-

ish Office, 732-446-6661, to register.

MORNING PRAYER Morning Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours

is prayed each weekday (M-F) at 8am and on Sunday morning at 8am,

before the 8:30am Mass. Morning Prayer is an important part of the Lit-

urgy of the Hours which ranks second only to Holy Mass in importance.

It is the universal prayer of the Church. Everyone is encouraged to at-

tend, especially those who are already coming to daily mass. Booklets

and instructions will be provided each morning. Morning Prayer takes

less than 15 minutes to pray and is an excellent way to properly prepare

oneself for Holy Mass. Sun 11/6 8:30am

From the pastor’s desk

As we approach the presidential election, more and more people have

asked why we (the priests of the parish) have not spoken out about the

upcoming election. Some have even suggested we should endorse a can-

didate and encourage everyone else to follow suit. To this I quote from

the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops: “The Church does not

support or oppose any candidate but seeks to focus attention on the

moral and human dimensions of issues.” For more information, go to the

USCCB web site (USCCB.org) and search for “Forming Consciences for

Faithful Citizenship”. That being said, I would personally add that our

country will be in dire need of prayer regardless of the election outcome.

Here’s a suggestion for prayer:

Almighty God, bless our nation and make it true to the ideas of

freedom and justice for all who make it great.

Guard us from war, from fire and wind, from compromise,

fear, confusion.

Be close to our president and our statesmen; give them vision and cour-

age as they ponder decisions affecting peace and the future of the world.

Make us more deeply aware of our heritage, realizing not only our rights

but also our duties and responsibilities as citizens.

Make this great land and all its people know clearly Your will, that they

may fulfill the destiny ordained for us in the salvation of the nations and

the restoring of all things in Christ. Amen.

Sincerely Yours in Christ, Rev. Mark W. Crane

Prayer Chain In addition to the people who need prayers listed in our bulletin, this

parish has a prayer chain. You may call 732-446-2371 for any additional

requests or situations. Email contact can also be made by going to

www.moremercy.org and clicking on “Prayer Chain”. Anyone interested

in this ministry may call the above number as well. Members of the

prayer chain also attend the novenas held at Our Lady of Mercy Church

each Monday at 7:00pm. Prayer requests are written in a book and the

book is placed upon the altar. Special prayers are said for those needs

each week and offered up to Our Lady of Perpetual Help for intercession.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity.

God Bless you, Father Mark

32nd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

"Those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and

to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage."

Jesus' response to the Sadducees regarding their question about the resur-

rection of the dead actually raises another question for us: what about

marriage in heaven? We understand marriage to be "until death do us

part," but what exactly becomes of this special relationship in the after-

life?

Pope Francis gave a homily on this Gospel passage in which

he discussed the mysterious transformation that will take place for those

who enter into the joy of heaven. The Holy Father tells us, Jesus explains

that "life after death does not have the same parameters as our earthly

life. Eternal life is another life, in another dimension where, among other

things, there will be no marriage... The life that God prepares for us is

not a mere embellishment of the present one: it surpasses our imagina-

tion, for God continually amazes us with his love and mercy" (Angelus,

November 10, 2013).

An interesting interpretation of this comes from Fr. Raniero

Cantalamessa, the Preacher of the Papal Household, who said "marriage

does not come to a complete end at death but is transfigured" (Homily,

November 10, 2006). Catholic author Stephen Ray described it this way

in a letter to his mother who was grieving the loss of her husband: "We

cannot understand our new spiritual bodies and heavenly existence any

more than a caterpillar can comprehend what it will be like to be a but-

terfly. We cannot anticipate how personal relationships will flower in

glory any more than [an] acorn can anticipate standing 50 feet tall."

Whatever it will be, we can trust it will be wonderful!

Prayer for Veterans

Heavenly Father,

on this day, help us remember those

who gave of themselves to keep us safe and secure.

Enkindle in our consciences a desire

to serve those who served their country selflessly.

Give us the grace to aid those

who have given aid and protection to us and others

both here and overseas.

Let us never forget the causes for which they fought

or the bravery they showed on the battlefield.

May we be always be mindful of those

who paid the price for our freedom,

just as your Son gave his life

to free us from the bondage of sin.

Amen.
