Body & Blood of Christ The PBS program "Antiques Roadshow" features experts ap-praising various objects and collectibles. People are often sur-prised to learn the value and history of things that at one time they saw as junk. The explanation of value is often as interest-ing as the piece itself. The Letter to the Hebrews teaches the value of the sacrifice of Jesus. He enters the sanctuary as high priest to offer himself to God on our behalf. He establishes a new and eternal covenant, making eternal life possible for all who are called by God to be one with Him. This is the same sacrifice that we share in the Eucharist, the offering of Jesus himself for our sakes. When we receive Communion, we are joined to Him in death and in life. It is not just bread that we receive, but the Bread of Life; not just wine, but the Cup of Salvation. Seen through the eyes of faith, their value is beyond compare. We are entrusted with this treasure of faith. It is our responsi-bility to hand it on. Our example and way of life show our real appraisal of the gift we are given and preaches volumes to those who seek the truth. What the world sees as junk, we teach and live as priceless.

P lease pray for the sick of our parish....

The Respect Life Committee

Religious Formation

God never asks about our ability or our inability – just our availability.

I heard the voice of the Lord saying,

“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then said I, “Here am I, send me.”

Isaiah 6:8

The Religious Formation Office will be open during the summer. Please Register: Registration forms for 2003/2004 are now available in the Parish Of-fice or the Religious Formation Office. Please return the form, along with a $25 deposit, as soon as possible. Help Needed! We have several openings for catechists for next year. Please think about helping us out. If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact Sr. Marilyn. Training will be provided. Confirmation group photos and videos can be picked up in the Parish Office.

SVDP PANTRY

Donations of non-perishable food items are always greatly appreciated. We marvel at how our parish-ioners continuously think of our pantry when they are grocery shopping. Some items which are ei-ther depleted or are in short supply are: jelly, pea-nut butter; pork & beans, canned fruit, pancake mix/syrup; spaghetti; laundry, dish, and bar soaps; toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, and misc. Per-sonal items: toothpaste, shampoo, etc. Thanks again for your generosity!!!

YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

We come into this world with nothing and we leave with nothing. It is what we do in between those times that is important. Stewards know there is more to l i fe than col lec t ing possessions. There is building the Kingdom of God and ignoring the kingdom of stuff. We are in the final calling phase of the CSA campaign. Please respond generously to your call.

St. Vincent de Paul “Youth Conference”

All high school students and those entering 8th grade are in-vited to attend the “Youth Con-ference” meeting on Sunday, June 22, 1:15 pm, in the Parish Conference Room. Regular meeting schedule resumes in July on the second and fourth Sundays. Being a Vincentian has many rewards….especially bringing smiles to the faces of disadvantaged children. Come join us.

The festival starts this week and we are still in need of vol-unteers for Bingo. We are so short of workers that there will be reductions in hours of operation. Next to monies raised from amusements, beer garden, and cash raffle, bingo is a major source of revenue raised during the run-ning of the fest. I have entertained numerous ideas to keep bingo at 100%. However unless those who think someone else will do it keep thinking that, this will be the last year for bingo at our fest. We cannot continue to offer it when we are 35 workers short to fill all shifts this year.

One of the basic principles of the fest when originally visioned was to create an event to bring parishioners to not only work together and have fun, but to also get to know one another. Is it becoming a "lost art" to ac-quaint with the folks you weekly attend church with? There are a minority of folks who start planning this festi-val in January and give up many hours to do so. Is working a two to three hour shift so hard to find in your busy schedule? Maybe there is a misunderstanding of what is required of volunteers working bingo. It's actually quite fun! There is no selling. Volunteers are more customer service agents. It's simply a matter of collecting money from customers asking you for bingo cards. That's it! Nothing scary here folks. Sales ability not required. Only an ability to make .50 cents change from a dollar. Our St. Thomas More Festival has become a jewel of an event not just for the parish, but the town of Munster as well. St. Thomas More shines for one week each summer for all to see and enjoy. We all like to have fun, but also must volunteer some "sweat equity" to make it all happen. Look at the folks next to you in church. They are not going to help. You must make the first move to volunteer. Call festival chairman Kevin Martin at 836-8145 or Rose and Wally Jurczak at 922-9189 to help us out. Say, "I want to save BINGO"! On behalf of the entire festival chairmanship I want to thank all of you who have stepped up to volunteer and continue to make our jewel shine! Kevin Martin Festival Chairman
