The St. Gregory Leadership Team has transitioned from what was previously referred to as the “St. Gregory Visioning Team” when it was formed almost three years ago. It was formed in response to the Catholic Leadership Institute recommendation that each of the four Churches in the parish gather a group of individuals to provide input from the local community, as we work to implement our goals. The demographics of this particular group includes: couples, single persons, one of the spouses from a family, men, women, new parishioners, those who have been part of the St. Gregory faith community for many years, and even those who have left St. Gregory for business or personal reasons and returned. The team has met occasionally as a group, but often communicate via emails or through group conversations after the 4pm or 8:30am Masses at St. Gregory. As previously stated, the Leadership Team for each of the churches does not duplicate or replace the Pastoral or Financial Councils, but has been created to assure that each of the 10 communities that gather for the weekend Masses at our four churches have a connection with the larger parish and are able to provide input with the goal of enhancing the uniqueness of each worshipping community and ensuring stability. They hope to be a presence to help the pastor implement the goals developed from the Parish Survey. Submitted by Deacon Dennis

FIRST SATURDAY MASS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6

8:15 AM, SACRED HEART CHURCH 7:45 AM RECITATION OF ROSARY

On July 13, 1917, Our Lady appeared to the children of Fatima and said that God wanted to establish a worldwide devotion to her Immaculate Heart in order to save souls and to bring peace to the world. We can be a part of that movement by honoring the Lord's request through Mary!

The First Saturday Devotion meets the Catholic tradition to venerate the Virgin Mary particularly on Saturdays. This originated in the Scriptural account that, as the Mother of Christ, her heart was to be pierced with several swords of sorrow which is akin to the sorrow she must have endured on Holy Saturday after Jesus was placed in the tomb before his Resurrection on Easter Sunday. The First Saturday Devotion serves to help console the sorrows of God, Jesus, and the Virgin Mary for the sins committed against her Immaculate Heart.

25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME—Our liturgical season’s color is

GREEN.

This Week’s Theme: What does it mean to be great and to be part of a community? We hear the Gospel story (Mark 9:30-37) Jesus and his disciples left from there and began a journey through Galilee, but he did not wish anyone to know about it. He was teaching his disciples and

telling them, “The Son of Man is to be handed over to men and they will kill him, and three days after his death the Son of Man will rise.” But they did not understand the saying, and they were afraid to ques-tion him. They came to Capernaum and, once inside the house, he began to ask them, “What were you arguing about on the way?” But they remained silent. They had been discussing among themselves on the way who was the greatest. Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” Taking a child, he placed it in their midst, and putting his arms around it, he said to them, “Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.” WE PRAY: “Lord, guide us to follow your example of serving others

in the communities to which we belong. Lead us to Mass where our faith community gathers to thank and worship you. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”

WE TALK: What does it mean to be great in the society in which we live? What does it mean to be great in Jesus’ eyes? Did Jesus have a faith community?

WE ACT: This week, I will try to include someone new in an activity and in my prayers. Go to pothe.formed.org to register for a FREE digital subscription through our par-ish. Explore the September resources for all ages!

On September 29 we celebrate the Feast of the Archangels:

Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.
