Lextran: Role & Expectations

• Role: Evolved throughout the various planning stages of the event

• Expectations: Many guests from other states and foreign nations would expect public transportation to be available

Lextran: Challenges

• Maintaining flow of operations for our regular passengers

• Spotlight Lexington – Downtown– Detours– How to get people home from downtown?

• Informing the public of the service

Challenge #1: Maintaining Operations

• Overtime• Assistance from other Kentucky transit

authorities• Temporary employees• Temporary call center

• Free, 17-day event in the downtown area• Live entertainment in 2 venues, artist’s

market, area to watch simulcast of WEG on a big-screen video board

Challenge #2: Spotlight Lexington

• Extended service on primary routes:– Richmond Road– Leestown Road– Tates Creek– Newtown Pike– Nicholasville Road– Hamburg– South Broadway

• Added extra trolley service—extended our Blue Route to 3 am, and added Sunday service on both routes (6-10 pm)

• Mentioned from the very beginning• Expectation there from out-of-country guests• Worked with CVB, Chamber, local hotels, WEG
