what is an entrepreneur? We asked the #BeTech community, Here is what they had to say:

Someone who comes up with ideas thinking outside of the box of what already exists. Most of the time by combining 2 existing ideas in a way that makes a revolutionairy new idea. But every so often making up something entirely new.

An entrepreneur is someone who sees oportunities where others see none, sometimes by luck and sometimes by skill.

Creative, risk-takers, outside the box thinkers, passionate, determined and courageous!

People who like to change things in better things. People who under-stand the needs of other people and find ways to make money out of it. Creators, thinkers, do-ers, leaders, listeners and speakers, makers,

breakers and remakers, nose for trends, habits and oppertunities. Me?

People who would take an idea or opportunity they have to create value (mostly money), they are willing to put the effort (time, money, safety, luxury, even some health) on the side as they want to succeed.

Someone who is doing something at the cutting edge of a field, usually with an economic goal in mind.

our answer?

SIMPLY THE BEST!

WHATIS

AFT?

Let me first state that it was anything but easy to come up with this short summary of what we represent. I am lucky enough to get to work with an amazing bunch of high po-tential, opinionated people - that I absolutely adore for all the effort and passion they put into their work; but a definition we could agree on was not easily found.

I think this might actually be what rep-resents us best; AFT is “where students meet technology and entrepreneurship” as our slogan so beautifully states, but these are not just words to us, they are what we believe in.

We at AFT want to give people the oppor-tunity to care about technology and entre-preneurship as much as we do. We hope to inspire students to push further, dig deeper, go above and beyond… Shaping reality as they go.

Our hackathons bring together students from all over the world, right here in Leuven. We celebrate

the “Maker Movement” and provide opportunities to explore the bleeding edge. AFT partners with MLH to get the most out of these events. After 12 or 24 hours, teams present their projects to a profes-sional jury. These projects range in platform and ap-plication, including elements of web development, mobile applications, drones, and more. A successful hackathon is seriously fun: leisure activities, net-working opportunities and much more.

“This is a man’s world”, the song says. And indeed, we see that the tech and entrepreneurial world is dominated by men. We want to encourage diversi-ty and equality among students in Leuven, starting by giving a good example ourselves: we’ve put to-gether a balanced core team of four men and four women. To actively empower women, we give the floor to female entrepreneurs and executives to share their stories and experiences. This way, we hope to inspire, celebrate and empower women and get as many as we can to participate in our projects and events.
