POPE’S APRIL INTENTION

That economists may have the

courage to reject any economy of exclusion and know how to open new paths.

FAMILY FAITH MOMENTS

Today we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday. The message of The Divine Mercy is that God loves us – all of us and He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins. When we call upon Him with trust, we receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. This message and

devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who wrote a diary recording the revelations she received about God's mercy. Saint Pope John Paul II lived and taught the message of Divine Mercy, describing

it as the answer to the world’s problems. When he canonized Sister Faustina, he also established Divine Mercy Sunday on the Second Sunday of the Easter season and declared, “This is the happiest day of my life.”

Celebrating the Church Year with your family.

Discuss the ABC’s of the Divine Mercy message as a family. A – Ask for God’s Mercy. Approach Him in prayer repenting our sins and asking for His mercy upon us and the whole world. B – Be merciful. God wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C –

Completely trust in Jesus. The more we trust in Jesus, the more graces we will receive.

LENTEN SOUP SUPPERS

Many thanks to the talented soup makers at the

Lenten Soup Suppers who provided the delicious soups, the people who attended and gave generous donations for the Food Pantry and St. Vincent de Paul Society, Deacon Leo and Martha Cordonnier, Father Ethan, and the Outreach and Justice Commission members

who made the evenings possible. We will look forward to next year’s Lenten Soup Suppers.

ST. PETER GIFT SHOP

First Communion missals, rosaries, ties, veils, and gift items for Confirmation and Communion will be available for purchase in Fehrenbach Hall on the Sundays of April after the 9:00 am and 11:00 am Masses at St. Peter. We have also donated, gently used First Communion dresses that are

available at no charge.

THE ANNUNCIATION of the LORD

On Monday, April 9, the Annual Celebration of the Solemnity

Mass of the Annunciation will take place at 7:00 pm at Holy Angels Church located at 1322 Brown Street in Dayton. Co-sponsored by Holy Angels Parish and One More Soul, it is a grand event. Father Greg Konerman will celebrate Mass and offer a special blessing for families expecting a child, have a newborn, or have suffered a recent loss. Following Mass,

continue the celebration with hospitality, camaraderie, and a talk by Anne Cherney, author of “Supernatural Family Planning, The Original Method.” For questions, please contact through email at [email protected] or call 626-0027.

At St. Peter Church, the Feast of the Annunciation will be

celebrated Monday, April 9, at the 6:30 and 8:30 am Masses.

It was transferred from March because it fell on Palm Sunday.

DO YOU BELIEVE in MIRACLES?

On Thursday, April 12, at 7:30 pm, Dr. John Cavadini, professor of theology at the University of Notre Dame, will

explore the Catholic understanding of miracles, answering: Do miracles still occur? What is the biblical and theological basis for miracles? How do miracles serve in the process of the canonization of saints?

The lecture will be held at the Bartlett Pastoral Center, The Athenaeum of Ohio/Mount St. Mary’s Seminary located at 6616 Beechmont Avenue in Cincinnati. All are welcome; admission is free. For more information, please call (513) 233-6172 or email [email protected].

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES

Next weekend, April 14 and 15, our parishes will take up The Catholic Relief Services Collection (CRSC). Funds from this collection

help provide food to the hungry, support to displaced refugees, and bring Christ’s love and mercy

to all people here at home and abroad. Please give generously to the CRSC, and help Jesus in disguise. Learn more about the collection at usccb.org/catholic-relief.

FAITH FORMATION

There will be no Faith Formation classes on April 11 and 12. For more details, please call Joe Hand at 329-0912.

BLESSING OF HOMES

There is a Catholic Tradition to have

homes blessed as a means of being made more aware of God’s presence in our lives and to respond to the One who loves us. It is the Church’s hope that having invoked these blessings, the people know that they too are blessed

and are called to make the world a more holy place by their very lives. Region XII clergy would like to extend the opportunity to have your home blessed. Please call the Parish Administration Office at 233-1503 to make

arrangements for the blessing.

ALTAR FLOWERS

Altar flowers for the week of April 8 at St. Peter are “In Memory of Robert Grollmus.

My Region XII Family,

For those who may not know, it is with a heavy heart that I inform you that as of July 2 of this year I will be reassigned as the Priest Chaplain of Wright State University. I am excited for the opportunity to serve the Lord and His Church in this way, however, it is hard to leave Region XII because of who you all are.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you. I cannot even begin to express my gratitude to you for welcoming me and making me a part of your family of faith. There is so much good here. God is very present in our churches, in our schools, in our offices, and in you. I thank God for allowing me this time to be with you. I care for you all very deeply and you will always remain in my prayers. All glory be to God! It is Him who brought us together and it is Him who will provide for our future. May we praise Him with all we have these next months and together continue to build His kingdom by faithfully living the Gospel and loving Him and one another in all that we do.

– Father Ethan

CATECHISM CORNER

When is Redemption?

by Josh Miller

“The Antichrist’s deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the e s c h a t o l o g i c a l judgement” (CCC 676).

Escatawholical? Eschatological means “about the last things” or “concerning the final destiny of mankind.” Basically, about the end of life or the end of time. What about the “messianic hope” mentioned? That means redemption. Redemption that strengthens our weakness. Redemption that conquers our despair. Redemption that forgives our sin. Redemption that enflames our joy.

Being in the Easter Season, we are celebrating Christ’s defeat of death and sin through his passion and resurrection. Yet, our eyes and ears easily show us that death and sin still plague our world. What happened? Where is this redemption Christ promised? The answer is twofold.

As the catechism reminds us, Christ promised a second coming. The messianic hope, the vanquishing of every single evil and suffering, will be complete at the end of time when He creates a new heaven and a new earth. In the meanwhile, we must beware of false prophets. Whether it be politicians on the news or personal friends, we can expect charlatans who will promise to make our lives easy, pleasurable, fulfilled, and successful if we just put our trust in them. The antichrist at the end of time will offer these lies. Mini-antichrists will offer the same lies in our own day. These false prophets make us forget that all peace and joy is a gift from God. Our hope must remain in Christ.

So what do we do with the present? The end of time feels like a long time to wait for redemption. Fortunately, Christ promises, “I will not leave you orphans” (John 14:18). Redemption is now. Christ promises us strength and joy even in the midst of evil. We have only to ask. Christ is with us now. This life will always have crosses. Anyone who ignores the cross participates in the lie of the antichrist. The path to joy, even in this life, means bearing our crosses side by side with Christ. We do not despair in our crosses. We suffer with hope, knowing that Christ has conquered the cross.

COOKING CLASS

Join Chef Lisa on Wednesday, April 11, from

6:30 to 8:00 pm in Shumaker Hall at Rosary for our first cooking class: SEA FOOD SURPRISE – SEE FOOD TO SHARE. She will present a sea food surprise followed by a Pate-a-choux presented by Bill Evans for dessert. You will receive the recipes and taste test the delicious food. Cost is

$5 per person. Please RSVP to Lena at 233-3531 or the Parish Administration Office at 233-1503 by Monday, April 9, so we can prepare enough food. Looking forward to a fun evening together!

OLR ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY NEWS

The OLR Altar Rosary Society is sponsoring a “Bake-Less Bake Sale” during the month of May. Instead of spending time and effort buying ingredients, preparing and baking items or buying items others donate, you donate the money you would have spent, directly to the OLR Altar Rosary Society.

100% of what is collected will be used to purchase new seasonal altar cloths for the main altar, costing an estimated $500. Designated donation envelopes will be placed in the bulletin the first weekend in May and at the OLR Church doors; return the envelopes in the collection basket by Sunday, May 27. Make checks payable to “Our Lady of the

Rosary.” If donating cash, please write your name on the envelope so you can be credited for the donation. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated! Thank You!

OLR 50/50 DRAWING

A total of 114 tickets were sold with $570 awarded in prize money for March. The winner was Joyce Koesters. Thank you to Father Luke Ballman for drawing the winning ticket, to Jerry Scott and Kathy Collin for selling tickets at Holy Cross and St Adalbert, to everyone who bought tickets this month, and

the OLR Altar/Rosary Society for the refreshments. A BIG thank you to an anonymous $400 donation! April tickets are now on sale for $10 each. If you would like to make a donation specifically for the candlesticks, please give it to Teresa Leopold or Suzanne Schiml and they will make sure you get credit for the donation and it gets added directly to the

50/50 balance. Make all checks payable to “Our Lady of the Rosary.” 16” Candlestick Estimate (16 @ $280) is $4,480; 50/50 Balance is $3,415; Outstanding Amount is $1,065.

The Ozman Gazi Mosque, located at St. Adalbert

and Valley Streets, will celebrate its grand opening

ceremony on Sunday, April 22, at 1:00 pm. This is an

exciting event for our Ahiska Turkish-American

neighbors and they would be honored to have you

attend the opening. Please RSVP by calling the Parish

Administration Office at 233-1503 if you will be there

so we can give them an anticipated headcount.
