GENERAL ISSUES

Reasons of the program

The Government of Cantabria think:

The communicative skill in English is essential.

Improve the employability od citizens of Cantabria

abroad.

The Government of Cantabria has designed a

Strategic Plan based in two keys areas:

Cultural Inmersion.

Teacher Training.

Reasons of the program

Promote the purspuit of new moments and environments in English.

Awaken the interest of children.

Develop multiples areas such as affective, autonomy, independence...

THIS PROGRAM WANT:

Current Situation

ECD / 16/2012 Order of March 15

Forces schools to implement plans immersion in

English in the second cycle of child education.

During the 2011-2012 academic course, in 14 of the 142 centers of

Pre-school and Primary Education in Cantabria where is developed a

inmersion linguistic plan.

Since 1996, Cantabria has a MEC-British Convention 1996-2012

Council therefore has a center where the teaching-learning process

specific to this language started in kindergarten and continues to

develop in the following educational stages culminating in a full

itinerary.

Main objective

Further develop levels of proficiency in English of

students in kindergarten, stimulating oral

language, encouraging the establishment of

bonding with other cultures, encouraging

curiosity about the expressive possibilities

provided learning a foreign language and laying

the necessary groundwork to enable the

development of such competition in the later

stages of education.

refer only to some public institutions

participating in the Regional Plan for the

Enhancement of Learning and Teaching of

Foreign Languages .

Some of the commitments of the

Ministry of Education with the

selected centers would be:

Provision of a language assistant with a time of 30 hours.

Economic Endowment for the development of the Plan.

TIC Resources.

Evaluation

Each participant in the call center will include

a plan for monitoring and internal

evaluation of both improving language skills

of students as the plan itself.

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports shall

establish a protocol to conduct an external

evaluation

Special monitored by the SIE of Schedules and Primary Education.

Special monitored by the SIE coordination between centers and stages

and Primary Education in the teaching and learning of English.

IMMERSION LINGUISTIC PLAN

IN PRIMARY EDUCATION

Primary Education

The process of learning a foreign language (LE1, English),

begun in kindergarten, continues and strengthens at this

stage.

COMMUNICATIVE

FUNCTIONAL

PRACTICAL

In Cantabria there are a total of 34 Bilingual

Education Programs (PEB) in Early Childhood

Education centers and public and subsidized

Elementary.

Incorporate learning methodology

Content and Language Integrated

Learning (CLIL) in one or two areas of

the curriculum.

Schools may offer the Second Foreign Language (French or

German) within the block autonomic subjects freely

configurable provided that she had been taught in the

second or third cycle of primary education.

To facilitate obtaining the certificates

evidencing the level of linguistic

competence, the Ministry of Education

drafting and implementation of a foreign

language standardized tests.
