Recognizing the serious need for education and training in the areas of
pediatric trauma and injury prevention, the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation
established the Pediatric Trauma Program in 1994.

Why PTP?
• Unintentional injury remains the #1 killer of children age 14 and under in the U.S.
• Unintentional injury kills more kids every year than any other cause – including disease, homicide and suicide!

• These injuries cost society $157 billion1 annually!
• 90% of these injuries could be prevented!

How Do We Address These Needs?
• Partner Hospitals
– The Foundation’s partnership with six children’s hospitals connects the Kiwanis family to the issue of Pediatric Trauma
– Utilizing the knowledge and expertise of our partner hospitals, we identify projects the Kiwanis family can undertake to address the issue of Pediatric Trauma

PTP Project Ideas
• Sponsor a bicycle rodeo, child safety fair or child safety seat inspection event
• Purchase and distribute bicycle helmets, child safety seats, electric outlet covers, choke tubes, etc.
• Educate parents about common dangers found around the home
• Distribute dolls to children’s hospitals or provide teddy bears to first responders to comfort children

How to Apply for a Grant
• Complete the appropriate PTP grant application
• Include the following:– An estimate of service hours committed to the
project
– Date when funds are required
– A copy of the club’s current year Community Service Budget
– A project budget including club funds committed, “in-kind” donations, and any other sources of outside funding
