Mission Statement:

Supporting the efforts of the Kiwanis family serving their

communities in the California-Nevada-Hawaii District.


Overview of the KiwanisCal-Nev-Ha Foundation

• Established in 1965

• A non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization

• Board consists of 20 members who meet at least three times per year

• Meetings open to all!

Its Beginning . . .

Recognizing the serious need for education and training in the areas of

pediatric trauma and injury prevention, the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation

established the Pediatric Trauma Program in 1994.


Our Mission . . .

reduce the number of children in our

District who are killed or injured by

trauma."


Why Pediatric Trauma?


Why PTP?

• Unintentional injury remains the #1 killer of children age 14 and under in the U.S.

• Unintentional injury kills more kids every year than any other cause – including disease, homicide and suicide!


Why PTP?

• These injuries cost society $157 billion1 annually!

• 90% of these injuries could be prevented!

1 Includes direct medical costs, future earnings lost and lost quality of life


How Do We Address These Needs?

• Partner Hospitals

– The Foundation’s partnership with six children’s hospitals connects the Kiwanis family to the issue of Pediatric Trauma

– Utilizing the knowledge and expertise of our partner hospitals, we identify projects the Kiwanis family can undertake to address the issue of Pediatric Trauma

1. Grants to our Partner Hospitals

a. Providing funding to train doctors and nurses in advanced pediatric courses

b. Purchasing much-needed pediatric medical equipment

c. Supporting existing and new community outreach programs

d. The Kiwanis Doctor program

PTP Project Ideas

• Sponsor a bicycle rodeo, child safety fair or child safety seat inspection event

• Purchase and distribute bicycle helmets, child safety seats, electric outlet covers, choke tubes, etc.

• Educate parents about common dangers found around the home

• Distribute dolls to children’s hospitals or provide teddy bears to first responders to comfort children

• Established to assist the Kiwanis Family in financing PTP service projects on a start up basis

• PTP grants are for new PTP projects

• Grant funding is limited to 50% of the total project cost (see application for specifics)


• Established to assist Kiwanis clubs in financing PTP service projects on a start up basis

• PTP grants are for new PTP projects only

• Grant funding is limited to 50% of the total project cost, up to $2,000 per grant

How to Apply for a Grant

• Complete the appropriate PTP grant application

• Include the following:– An estimate of service hours committed to the

project

– Date when funds are required

– A copy of the club’s current year Community Service Budget

– A project budget including club funds committed, “in-kind” donations, and any other sources of outside funding
