Lions, Lioness & Leos, It’s Spring and beauty is all around us with the flowers and trees blooming. President’s Honor Night was well attended again this year and our Speaker, PID Russell Sarver from Durand, IL and his wife, Lion Sue were our guests for this District Convention weekend. Our one day District Convention /Cabinet Meeting went well. PID Sarver in his presentation challenged us on how to get new members in our clubs. Invite a friend or neighbor to your Lions meeting in May to learn firsthand the projects we do and how WE SERVE our communities. Our membership was down 24 in April. With 2 months to go let’s try to break even. Finish Strong! May is Lions Recycle for Sight Month. Take this opportunity to start a club eyeglass collection project if your club is not already doing this. (LCIF Newsletter- April) Club Officers Training – May & June... You do not have to be a first time in- coming officer to attend these sessions. With all of the new updates/changes being made and reporting to LCI , these sessions can be very helpful. Mark your calen- dars now! (More info in newsletter). Remember to submit your Lions Clubs Offi- cer Reporting Form following club elections so that your club will continue to re- ceive news, materials and announcements from LCI. PAGE 2 DISTRICT 14-DETAILS MAY 2011

First of all, thanks to all who made it possible for me to be elected District Governor for 2011 – 2012. Thank you espe-cially to the Ephrata Lions, President Ann Snader for giv-ing my nominating speech, and Region 3 Chairperson Charles Anderson for the seconding speech. And of course, I cannot forget the help I receive every day from my partner in service, Bonnie. Not only will she con-tinue to support me throughout my upcoming year as District Governor, but she is taking up

my former job of club secretary of Ephrata.

As you elect your new officers, don’t forget to sign them up to attend the District’s Club Officers Training on May 3rd and May 14th. Also, secre-taries have the opportunity to sign up for special computer training on May 11th and June 11th. District Officer Training is a must to prepare for the next year. Whether you are a new officer or an experienced officer, there is always some-

thing new to learn.

Presidents Honor Night and the District Convention are over, but the Lions year goes until June 30th. It’s not too late to reach your goals. How about new members? PID Russ Sar-ver, at Presidents Honor Night, challenged each Lion to bring two new Lions into your club before the end of the year.

Lions, Lioness, Leos,

Another month has gone by and we had a successful President’s Honor Night and District Convention. Our year is not over, we still have time to get some new members in our Clubs so please keep up the good work and bring some new members into your Club. I hope to see all new Club officers at one of the Officer Training sessions.

Theme Baskets The District would like to send out a big THANK YOU to all the clubs that spon-sored a Theme Basket at this year’s District Convention. Due to your generosity, the District was able to raise $1,100.00 to help offset the expenses of the Conven-tion. All the baskets were unique and beautifully done. We had a total of 25 bas-kets and no two were alike. Thanks again and best wishes in the new Lionistic Year to all the Lions and Lioness Clubs in the District. Keep up the good work!

District 14-D presents a Melvin Jones Fellowship to a worthy Lion in each region and to a worthy Lioness each year at their respective rallies. In order to do this we request nominations from the Lions and Lioness clubs in our district. The deadline for receipt of these nominations is Tuesday May 11, 2011. Please send all nominations to LCIF chair, Lion Dale High, IPDG, 137 Fieldcrest Lane, Gordonville, PA 17529. The rules for submission are listed below.

Lion Dale High, LCIF Chairperson

Nomination and Selection of District Melvin Jones Fellowship

PURPOSE

To provide guidelines on the nomination and selection process of District 14-D for a Melvin Jones Fellowship to be presented to a Lion from each Region and a Lioness.

GENERAL:

1. Each Lionistic year, District 14-D may present a Melvin Jones Fellowship to a Lion per Region along with a Lioness based on nominations from the Lion/Lioness clubs.

2. Nominations pertain to New Melvin Jones Fellowships only and not to Progressive Fellowships.

3. The LCIF Chairperson must submit in the District Newsletter information and instructions, along with a deadline, on how to nominate a Lion/Lioness. This must be submitted at least two months before the deadline.

4. Only Clubs that contributed to the District as per the Contribution Schedule for LCIF, which is set each year by the District Governor, may submit a nominee for a District Melvin Jones Fellow-ship. For example: If the per member contribution is $5.00 and your club has 20 members you would need to contribute $5.00 X 20 members or $100.00 to be able to submit a nominee.

5. All nominations must be board approved and signed by either the Club President or Secretary, preferably by the President where possible.

6. All nominations MUST be submitted on club stationery providing the qualifications of the nominee and sent to the LCIF Chairperson and a copy to the District Secretary by the established deadline.

7. Within a month after the deadline, the LCIF Chairperson must call a meeting and based on the received nominations select the Lion/Lioness from each region and Lioness clubs that will received a Melvin Jones Fel-lowship from District 14-D.

The final decision, will be made by a Committee consisting of the District Governor, the last Past District Gov-ernor from each Region, Cabinet Secretary, and Cabinet Treasurer.

Note: The process will be: The above Lions will assess those nominated in each

Region, assigning 1st,2nd,3rd,etc. positions to each nominee, the #1 position will

receive the Melvin Jones Award. If there are extra dollars available for awards,

the #2 positions will be considered for the remaining awards, etc. *The 1st Vice District Governor, 2nd Vice District Governor, LCIF Chairperson, Lioness Coordinator, and the Region Chairpersons will also be present to give input on any nominees that they know. They do NOT have voting rights.

*The District Governor at the time of the selection process will present the Melvin Jones Fellowships at a later date, preferably at the following year’s Region Rallies when he/she is the Immediate Past District Governor.
