We thank the Grande Prairie Public School District for its on-going support. LIONS LEARNING CENTRE For the past 40 years the club has been a proud supporter of this much-used city park which carries our club’s name. LIONS PARK An event held each June for children of all ages to enjoy refreshments, games, face painting, and running through the spray deck! KIDS DAY AT LIONS PARK We collect used eyeglasses from local optometric businesses, individuals, and from other Lions clubs throughout Alberta. The glasses are sorted and packed by our members and then sent to the Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre who provides them at no charge to people in need throughout the world. The funds raised from the walks are used to train dog guides for people who are visually impaired, hearing impaired, have mobility issues, have seizures, and for children with autism. The dog in the photo currently assists a local individual in our city who is hearing impaired. PURINA WALK FOR DOG GUIDES S.T.A.R.S. This one-week camp is held in August at Camp Tamarack to which high school aged youths from around the world, including this area, may attend. They enhance their leadership skills while experiencing other cultures. Prior to the start of camp the youths are hosted by local families. 5 6 Located just south of the city on Resources Road this cemetery is the final resting place for early pioneers of this area, many of whom died from the Spanish Flu during the 1918 worldwide epidemic. With the support of the County of Grande Prairie, the club members remove garbage and replace any of the wooden crosses that have been damaged. This fall we will be planting trees. 9 10 The club supports five bursaries at Grande Prairie Regional College. Each bursary is named in recognition to those members of our club who made a significant and lasting contribution to this community. 7 Grande Prairie Lions is a strong supporter of this emergency medical air rescue service. We hold fundraising events in support of STARS and are proud that the Lions logo is prominently displayed on their helicopters. 8 BEAR CREEK CEMETERY NORTHERN ALBERTA LIONS CAMP COMMUNITY SPIRIT Grande Prairie Lions participate in the Canada Day and Santa Claus Parades to exhibit our community spirit while having a whole lot of fun!
