Entry Requirements:

Graduates of the PhD in Business Management will have research and analytical skills valued by multina-tional companies, government agencies, �nancial institutions, consulting �rms, international agencies and non-pro�t organisations. �ey will be leaders in knowledge development in business, management and organisation in the UAE and region, and will be e�ective in translating theo-retical understandings into e�ective practice. �ey will able to make signi�cant and innovative contribu-tion to the economic, social and organizational development of the UAE and the region.BUiD’s PhD in Business Management will suit professionals in commercial, public and non-pro�t sectors, blending the latest academic thinking with practice in a wide range of organisational, business and management contexts. �e programme empha-sizes technical and academic knowledge alongside a view that management practice is best informed by research evidence, and problem solving by investiga-tion and testing.

�e program is structured in two phases. In the �rst phase students will consolidate and extend their academic understanding of their specialist �eld, develop research competence, and put together a plan of proposed research. �ey will then undertake the research and report it as a thesis.

BUiD is developing a partnership with Queen’s Uni-versity, Belfast in the roll-out of this new programme. Queen’s is ranked #8 in the UK for the intensity and impact of its research. Its Management School is ranked #2 in the Good University Guide’s ranking of UK Business Schools.

Application Eligibility Requirements1- A recognised Master’s degree (or equivalent or higher quali�cation) in Business Management or a related subject with a cumulative grade point average of greater than 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale (or its equiva-lent).2- Documentary evidence of minimum TOEFL score of 580 (237 CBT), 6.5 IELTS, or its equivalent in a standardized English language test approved by MOHESR.3- Research interests compitable with academic exper-tise at BUiD.4- Relevant work experience will be an asset with 3+ years is desirable. 5- Admissions interview by a panel of at least two academics will be mandatory 6- Evidence of training in research and research work, including publications, will be an asset.7- An initial proposal for research, including motiva-tion to study for a PhD.

CORE MODULES

Business Excellence: �is module provides a solid understanding of di�erent theories of excel-lence approaches and models in the UAE and beyond, quality management and leadership.Global Management: �is module provides a solid understanding of theories and debates in global management. �is will involve consider-ation of the challenges of globalisation and variet-ies of capitalism, and will attend to identifying di�erences between countries in government regulation, societal and industry contexts, organi-sational cultures and management practices. Special consideration will be given to alternative ways of theorising globalisation, internationalisa-tion, product innovation, service innovation and business viability.

ELECTIVE MODULES

�e British University in Dubai (BUiD) was established in 2003 by Ruler’s Decree of the Emirate of Dubai. It is the region's �rst, research-based, postgraduate university. BUiD o�ers research intensive programmes of study that are designed in partnership with leading UK universities. �e university supports the UAE Vision 2021 by developing graduates able to create, originate, innovate and apply knowledge at an advanced level.

Financial Analysis & Strategy: �is module provides students with a comprehensive knowl-edge of concepts, theories and models used in the discipline of �nance. Students will acquire an in-depth knowledge of emerging trends in �nan-cial markets, corporate ownership, shareholder activism, governance and legislation. Students will also develop new knowledge on cross-border capital �ows and the related �nancial exposures, and various methods of corporate restructuring and bankruptcy prediction models. Students will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of di�erent methods of valuing options and tech-niques to mitigate forex and interest rate risks of �rms. �e module requires students to exercise critical thinking, and the analytical ability to assess highly complex �nance-related issues, form valid judgements, and create innovative ways to solve problems leading to the advancement of the discipline of �nance and their organizations.

Case Studies in Change Management: �is module introduces the student to the theory and practice of managing organisational culture and change. �is key management skill is critical to organisational success and plays a crucial role in supporting creativity and innovation. As well as gaining a perspective on the need for organisa-tions to embrace change as a way of gaining com-petitive advantage, the student is given insight, via case studies, into the practical aspects of manag-ing change and the essential tools for successful implementation. �e student is required to anal-yse a speci�c change scenario and make associated recommendations.

Organisation, Projects & Sustainability: �is module provides advanced knowledge of concepts of organisation in relation to the public, private and not-for-pro�t sectors. �e focus of interest is on projects and their implementation for achieving goals of strategic alignment, knowl-edge management, sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

Managing Projects for Innovation: �is module addresses the need to manage projects to deliver innovations and support corporate strategic objectives. Project managers need to understand the drivers for change and innovation in the way projects are managed and how the di�erent models of innovation and change apply to a proj-ect environment. �e module examines the role of project managers in encouraging creativity, creat-ing a climate of innovation and Innovation Networks. �e module examines the driving teams and supply chain issues, using case studies we study e�ective knowledge sharing, learning within the team and between the supply chain, and provides the support and incentive for inno-vation.
