What We Do

Here at the Dewey School • We give students the freedom to be creative• We provide an environment where children

determine what they learn and how they learn based of the interests they express.

• We ensure the holistic development of every child.

• (Sadker & Zittleman, 2010) We are organized around the concerns, curiosity and real-world experiences of the students

Our “Y”

• We create an environment which enables the development of students with respect for diversity. Each individual is recognized for his or her own abilities, interests, ideas, needs, and cultural identity. We also serve to enhance the development of critical, socially engaged intelligence, which enables individuals to understand and participate effectively in the affairs of their community in a collaborative effort to achieve a common good.

What Keeps Us Going

• Diligence- Students must Display urgency and due diligence in their approach assigned tasks

• Respect-Our school strives on mutual respect. The needs of our teachers, students and all other staff members are very important, and are addressed. Therefore, respect is easy to give and receive.

• Social Awareness- We ensure that everyone is treated as equals regardless of their economic standing , race, gender, sexual orientation, and learning ability. We ensure our students respect each other and engage in projects and behaviors which will enhance each other.

• Our school is our community, it is each person’s home away from home; therefore every one is encouraged to act in a loving caring way towards each other.

Our Take on Equal Educational Opportunity

• The Dewey High School is structured around the interests, concerns and real-world experience of our students, therefore all students receive equal attention and are taught using the strategies which appeals to their unique needs. Our students feel as if they are acknowledged because their interests play such a huge role in what they do at school.
