    What is it?

    It is a technique of

producing a smallamount of power usingmultiple inputs.

The inputs are water, wind and biodegradablewastes.

All renewable energy (except tidal andgeothermal power), ultimately comes fromthe sun

The earth receives 1.74 x 1017 watts of power(per hour) from the sun

About one or 2 percent of this energy isconverted to wind energy (which is about50-100 times more than the energyconverted to biomass by all plants on earth

Differential heating of the earths surfaceand atmosphere induces vertical and

horizontal air currents that are affected bythe earths rotation and contours of thelandWIND.

~ e.g.: Land Sea Breeze Cycle

    WIND POWER-

    What is it?

A Windmill captureswind energy and thenuses a generator to

convert it to electricalenergy. The design of a windmill

is an integral part of howefficient it will be.

When designing awindmill, one mustdecide on the size of theturbine, and the size ofthe generator.

    WIND TURBINES-NO OF BLADES

Most common design is the three-bladed turbine. The mostimportant reason is the stabilityofthe turbine. A rotor with an oddnumber of rotor blades (and at least

three blades) can be considered to besimilar to a disc when calculating thedynamic properties of the machine.

A rotor with an even number ofblades will give stability problems fora machine with a stiff structure. Thereason is that at the very momentwhen the uppermost blade bends

backwards, because it gets themaximum power from the wind, thelowermost blade passes into the windshade in front of the tower.

    BIOGAS

    What is it?

Biogas typically refers to a gas produced by

    the biological breakdown oforganic matterin

    the absence ofoxygen.

Biogas originates from biogenic material and

    is a type ofbiofuel.

    Applications of biogas

Biogas can be utilized for electricity

    production, cooking, space heating, water

    heating and process heating.

If compressed, it can replace compressed

natural gas for use in vehicles, where it can

fuel an internal combustion engine orfuel cells
