Rotaract Orientation
for ICI students
TWO NEW RAC CLUBS CHARTERED
District 3770 proudly chartered two
Rotaract clubs: The Rotaract Club of
Immaculate Conception Interna-
tional (ICI) and the Rotaract Club of
Malolos.
Rotaract Club of ICI is a service-
oriented, university-based organization
that aims to develop effective and
efficient leaders of Immaculate Con-
ception International. The Rotaract
Club of ICI was sponsored by the
Rotary Club of Santa Maria and the
Rotary Club of Mutya ng Santa
Maria. Through the efforts of the
School President Luisa Mariano
(Rotary Club of Santa Maria member),
School Director Neil B. Mateo and
Academic Head Inna Villanueva, the
university-based Rotaract club was
able to enlist 200 Rotaractors.
The Orientation and election of offi-
cers was conducted on August 9, 2011
at the Multi-Purpose Hall of ICI. Dis-
trict Rotaract Representative Cherrie
Gallardo together with District Rota-
ract Chairman Jon Alonzo of RC Sta.
Maria introduced the Rotaract profile
with its Vision and Mission. Assisted
by the Club Adviser, Ms. Inna
Villanueva and the School President,
Ms. Luisa Mariano, students of BS
Business Administration, BS Educa-
tion and Tech Voc students from Infor-
mation Technology joined the Rotaract
Club of ICI. The activity was the first
step towards positive change, the birth
of promising leaders that will serve the
university and the community. The
elected officers and members show
enthusiasm for the club and its goals.
On the other hand, the Rotaract Club
of Malolos was sponsored by the
Rotary Club of Malolos.
From September to November, the
Malolos Rotaractors tirelessly re-
cruited people to join the club. Fi-
nally, on November 12, 2011, the
first Rotaract Club in Malolos, Bula-
can was chartered with 21 Rotaractors
as charter members. Rotarians were
present to congratulate their younger
counterparts. They were full of hope
that these young people will develop
to become great leaders for the future
generation. Right after their induction,
the Rotaract Club of Malolos held
their first meeting as official members
of the club. Like their counterparts in
Rotaract ICI, they couldn’t wait to
plan for projects that would make a
difference.

ROTARACT, INTERACT, RCC CONVENTION 2011
Last September 26, 2011, the Rota-
ract, Interact and RCC Convention
was held at Santa Maria Elementary
School. The event was hosted by the
Rotary Club of Santa Maria. Over 60
Rotaractors from different Rotaract
Clubs gathered for this annual district
activity. Highlights include an inspira-
tional talk and workshop activities.
Mr. Paolo Benigno ‘Bam’ Aquino IV
of Hapinoy served as keynote
speaker. He talked about how the
youth of today can make a difference
in this world. He also challenged the
Rotaractors and Interactors to become
better leaders of this nation.
Breakout sessions followed after
lunch. MDIO Chairperson Myreza
Catherine “Cathy” Gonzales led the
workshop for Rotaractors. The partici-
pants enjoyed the discussion and fun
activities. They were also happy to
interact with fellow Rotaractors in the
district. The event concluded with the
signing of a resolution supporting the
MDIO. The Rotaract Clubs of D3770
unanimously agreed to join MDIO
Pilipinas. The district looks forward to
becoming a member of the country’s
Rotaract resource center.

Pila Elementary School students bear
the pain, as the flesh of their young feet
are inevitably wounded by the rocky

378 pairs of shoes were given to stu-

At the end of the day, the project was
not to gain fame nor recognition, as
others may think. Rather, the Rotaract
Club of Santa Maria solely dedicates
itself for service towards others. Club
participation rate was high as members
were hyped by the idea of making a
child happy.
As always, a successful Rotaract pro-
ject entails support from the sponsoring
Rotary club. Rotary Club Santa
Maria President Jun dela Cruz pa-
tiently walked with us to see this pro-
ject through completion.
The Rotaract Club of Nueva Vizcaya
State University-Bambang organized
a three-day clean up drive to make the
Campus Sports Facilities look good and
clean. Candy wrappers, papers, plastic
cups and plastic bags were collected
and segregated. Recyclable materials
such as plastic bottles were sold.
Proceeds were added to the club’s
funds.
The Rotaract Club of Kalinga
Apayao State College also demon-
strated their concern for cleanliness as
they conduct a monthly clean and green
drive from the Rotary Marker to the
White Carabao.
Officers and members collect
garbage, segregating the biode-
gradable from the non biodegrad-
ables.
Through these activities, both
clubs help maintain cleanliness
while serving as examples to
people in their respective commu-
nities.

DISTRICT 3780 ROTARACTORS “RELOAD” MEMBERSHIP
To address the dwindling number of
Rotaractors in District 3780, Rota-
ract Club of Timog, Quezon City
(lead-host) and Rotaract Club of
Cloverleaf (co-host) spearheaded
“Rotaract Reloaded: A Strategic
Recruitment and Membership
Development Seminar” last June
11, 2011 at the Rotary Center, Que-
zon City. The seminar was attended
by 17 Rotaract Clubs, with a total of
120 participants, 70% of which are
new members.
The membership recruitment and
development event followed a
workshop format. “We want it to
be participatory…We want the new
Rotaractors to learn by actually
doing things,” RAC Timog Presi-
dent Jonalyn Villasante explained.
Seasoned Rotaractors were also
invited to share and facilitate the
workshop. RAC Timog Charter
President Francoise Marie B.
Alonzo discussed the basics of
Rotaract while Past District Rota-
ract Representative (PDRR) Flor-
ante Espiritu of District 3790
enlightened the group on the oppor-
tunities and relevance of Rotaract.
Lastly, MDIO Chairperson
Myreza Catherine Gonzales of
District 3830 led an encouraging
discussion on Reviving Servant
Leadership.
District Governor Jose Francisco
“Jess” Cifra graced the event and
delivered an inspirational message
that emphasized the importance of
Rotaract as Rotary’s partner in
service. DG Jess also urged Rota-
ractors to take the next step and join
a Rotary Club once they are already
eligible.

Around 170 Rotaractors from 23

DRR Marby Montellano’s term
of service. Immediate Past Dis-
trict Rotaract Representative

Bell and Gavel to DRR Marby.
Afterwards, District Governor Jess

vice to New Generations Chair-
man Benjie Alonzo then presented
the new officers and members of
the district’s Rotaract clubs. They
were inducted later by DRR Marby
and DG Jess.
During her inaugural speech, DRR
Marby emphasized the true mean-
ing of service in Rotaract. DG
Jess, on the other hand, compared
Rotaractors to flowers in bloom

D3780 Rotaractors Share Their RYLA Experience
The Rotary Youth Leadership
Awards (RYLA) has become a
way through self-determination of
young people aged 14-30, to further
develop character and leadership
skills and learn about Rotary. It
takes the form of a seminar, camp
or workshop, generally 3-10 days in
length, organized by the Rotarians
at the Club, District or Multidistrict
level. RYLA leads the next genera-
tion of leaders to be good motiva-
tors and influential to others.
Themed “Breaking Barriers, Cross-
ing Borders,” this year’s RYLA
was hosted by the Rotary Club of
Uptown Novaliches. It was held at
9 Waves Ciudad Christia Resort,
San Mateo Rizal with 47 delegates
(majority were Rotaractors) who
were in for challenging tasks pre-
pared by the organizers.
As we stepped at Ciudad Christia,
lots of questions came to our minds.
“What would be the positive out-
come?” “Why are we here?” “How
can RYLA change our principles in
life?”
We managed to show our skills and
abilities through our workshop
groups. Moreover, we were able to
coordinate, share, and form inter-
personal relationships.
The speakers imparted lessons on
time management and essence of
good leadership. By listening to
them and participating in the activi-
ties, we developed our own ideas
and perspectives as well. Among
the topics discussed were
“Technology in Today’s World and
Impact on the New Generation” (by
PP Boone Ongchongco) and
“Leadership in Crisis” (by PP
Sammy Pagdilao). We liked the
former because it showed how
technology can help us do our jobs
in simpler ways while the latter
helped us see how to apply leader-
ship in our daily endeavors.
RYLArians with PP Sammy Pagdilao
We enjoyed the food, the place and
most of all, the people who were
with us. The questions that ran in
our minds at the beginning of the
program were finally answered.
To Rotaract with love...
I’m writing right now because there
is something I should be thankful
for. To have met wonderful indi-
viduals, being a part of an out-
standing club and a gleeful bunch of
friends. In all honesty, I never
wanted to be part of that club. Sure
they do good things in there but still
I was childish and selfish to first
think that it would just eat some of
my time allotted to my leisure.
I remember how I started here. This
friend of mine (with the unpredict-
able personality she possesses) asks
me to assist her in making a presen-
tation for the club and after having
not to sleep for 24 hours, she asks
me to go to someplace in Quezon-
City to shoot some pictures and
meet someone who by the way was
their incumbent president that time.
I remember being invited and refus-
ing their Rotaract Club President
three times but she was persistent
(I’d like to call it “pestering me”)
and I’m glad that she was, and that
my friend just got that crazy idea
for if not for these two, I would
never meet such wonderful people
yet alone be part of what they do.
Back then, I thought they were a
bunch of… mmm… to simply put it
“maarte”. Fast forward to now…
well they’re still “maarte” but they
are my kind of “maarte”… the real
good ones.
They’ve reminded me of what I
take little notice of, that the sim-
plest things are the ones that gives a
bunch of joy in a person’s heart.
Rather than watching videos on
your iPad (wala pa ko nito example
lang ha.), it’s better to watch a
Mother smile as you hand her a box
of medicine for her sick child. Bet-
ter than listening to music on your
MP3 player is having a conversa-
tion with an inquisitive child as you
assist him in his drawing.
These things…these countless little
things, that if you look at it in a
larger picture…it makes a huge
difference.
Doing something for Rotaract was
never an obligation. I always had it
as a privilege and the so called
“favors” that you asked were never
treated as such. Instead, I treated
them as “acts of trust”, tasks that
you knew I could deliver and for
that I am grateful.
Thank you,
Rotaract!

Traditionally, Rotaract clubs cele-
brate and welcome the new Rotary
year through the Annual Rotaract
District Assemblies which gather
Rotaractors and their sponsoring
Rotarians.
This year, the District Assembly
was held at the Bulwagang
Katipunan, Caloocan City Hall,
Caloocan City. It aimed to facilitate
communication among different
clubs and unite them as one. Dis-
trict Rotaract Chair Carla De-

IPDRR Rowena Tejada were all
there to help make the event suc-
cessful. Similarly, DRR Lovely
Estrella’s sponsoring club, RC
Sampaguita Grace Park also gave
their full support.
District Governor Rafael Garcia
III was around to inspire the Rota-
ractors. He said, “We as the Majes-
tic Leaders, the majesty, the high-
ness will be the one who will serve
humanity and not the one who will
be served by humanity.”
The District Assembly also saw the
induction of the District Officers for
RY 2011-2012. In DRR Lovely’s
words, “Excitement is in my heart
as I begin to lead our district, my
fellow Rotaractors and my commu-
nity as well. But I also feel chal-
lenged and thrilled because I know I

give up no matter how tough the
trials are. For the Rotaractors to
become motivated and active, we
formulated programs that will pos-

develop more their skills as future
leaders of the world. Like me, I
never expected to become a leader
but the opportunity came and I will
never have any regret taking on this

Message from the DRR
For the Rotary Year 2011-2012,
there will be new priorities to
meet current challenges. Despite
our gains in the past five years,
we still have a lot of room for
improvement. Through the Ro-
tary International Theme “Reach
Within to Embrace Humanity,”
RI President Kalyan Banerjee
wants us to improve ourselves
and our leadership. We have to
be more resourceful because he
wants us to be the change we want
to see in the world. I find this very
timely because I would want to
focus on these myself. My experi-
ences as the Charter President of
my club and as a District officer
will be my inspiration in helping
my Changemaker Presidents
achieve their goals.
The District goals are: Strengthen
the District & its leaders;
Strengthen the Club leaders; Im-
prove Communication & Public
Image of Rotaract; Encourage Ro-
tary Clubs to form new Rotaract
clubs.
These will be accomplished with
the help of my District Council
members who are very much will-
ing to share their talents, time, and
resources to support the clubs in
pursuing their service objectives.
Each and everyone of us has
a talent, each and everyone
of us should have the chance
to develop that talent, and
that each of us should use
whatever talent we have to
enable people least able to
help themselves.
